  • foot care only two things: friction and moisture. you did the right thing. people with "special" feet swear they like using italian shoes. check out LA SPORTIVA

  • get the trangia brand fuel bottle specificaly for denatured alcohol. it has a valve/pourer so it's convenient :)

  • Hey what's up Mike? Thanks for sharing your adventures bud. What exactly is this Mole Skin? This is the first I've heard of it. And thanks for all the advice you guys give us. Take care now.Have a great week.

  • @FacetsOfTruth You can buy it at most drug stores, Walmart etc. Comes in little flat square pieces that you can cut to shape and it sticks very well. When you feel a hot spot coming on put some on it and it will help you avoid blisters. I already know where my feet are prone to blisters so I put moleskin on in those areas to begin with. Like the balls of my feet and heels...and a few toes. ;) m

  • This is a great day to go hiking in the mountians :)

  • Try a propperly fitting shoe to prevent blisters.

  • For blister protection start with a "2 layer" sock system. Wear a thin pair of 'sock liners' then put a nice cushioning sock over that. Make sure both pairs of socks are designed for backpacking and NOT hiking :) For your fuel I would recommend putting it in an actual backpacking fuel container to avoid any leaking or puncturing of the soda bottle. If your bottle happens to get punctured or leaks ur out of luck for a meal. Tips from the pros ;) Need any advice, we're just a phone call away!

  • I stopped the video at 0:04 because I had to play it again and laugh to myself. She's smiling and says, "Hey, this is Cindy". The guy is smiling too and says, "And I'm Mike". But listen to the way he says it and look at his facial expression.

It's like, "My name is Mike b#*^*, WTF ever".

  • one way that you can deal with blisters is using DUCK TYPE it works really weal and u can use it for much more stuff but the video helped a lot

  • Gold bond, if your boots are loose put on more socks, yea you should carry 1 day more than you should be out, PGA not denatured, save your dryer lint and put it in a ziplock, vienna sausage or spam, pack your calorie intake like you were staying 1 day less <<see the motivation and have the back up if you mess up, if you're undies are messing with you just take them off, ducttape, yep, hurts like hell but helps with abrasions.

  • All I've learned about hiking is to remain as silent as possible. Also, when searching for animals conserve as much energy as possible... let them come to you and don't make noise in the forest. those who master there fear can remain silent under all circumstances...

  • Cotton Balls and Vaseline!! Best fire starter give it a try one ball burns 5 minutes. even in damp raining weather!! Liked your video

  • This is my new favorite channel...you guys cover a lot of great stuff. I love your cat

  • IN THE ARMY WHEN WE WOULD DO ROAD MARCHES WE WOULD WEAR PANTY HOSE TO STOP CHAFFING !! HA !! IF YOU DONT WANT TO WEAR THE PANTYHOSE ATLEAST WEAR THE FOOTIE HOSE THEY HELP CUT WAY DOWN ON BLISTERS !!

  • very cool tips...thanks

  • Use baby powder, corn starch not talc, in your underwear and lycra type underwear. This cuts down on that grinding in your crotch... Helps to cut down on the friction.

  • Good video im a noob and this helps.

  • Really don't pack to much food,

  • Great stuff. Very helpful.

  • Try duct tape for blister prevention. Dont bring the whole roll just rip off about 2 feet and wrap it around a hiking pole or something and then just rip off small pieces as you need it. It comes in handy a lot!

  • @ApricotArtLover Thanks for the tip but my hubby probably needs to wrap his entire foot (feet) in it. I tried to give him the trail name Tenderfoot, LOL ;) c

  • @SoulSurvivorX2 and also multiple such as shelter etc. im from new zealand and we have reasonable amount of rain. i was on a survival camp, and i ran out of rope. i normally have an anklet on me but its there when i really really need it so i didnt need it. so i used duc tape. you know those ones you can rip apart with your hand. very effective and muti purpose tool to use :D regards from new zealand

  • @Tankinator1000 Thank you! Hope you have a wonderful weekend ;) c

  • instead of treating blisters after they happen, start with blister prevention: good shoes, laced well so your feet don't slide around and body glide or something like that....

i'm partial to fabric bandaids, true they get wet but they seem to stay on the best, and if you are just out for a short trip, you just need to keep a wound clean more than anything else

  • @thickredhair Thanks for the tips. We went on a hike fro 3 days and 32 miles the week of October 20th with much lighter loads and came off the trail with zero blisters. But we were ready for them if they had come along. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment ;) c

  • Do you guys like Ramen? It's lightweight, it has soup for the soul, not to mention sodium to prevent cramping and you can eat alone or add almost anything to it (beef jerky or dried shredded pork, even the tuna you guys brought).. just a tip. It's what we brought in the light infantry (7th infantry, Ft. Ord) to enhance meals.. It's good for breakfast too

  • @supersquirrel4755 Ramen is on top of the list for the next hike. It's very cheap too ;) c

  • Thanks for the video! My kids are finally old enough to go trail hiking and you have taken most of the work out of our prepping. Very good tips! I think we'll be well prepared.

  • @jchavez2010 So glad you liked it. We are a long way from experts but believe experience is the best teacher... ;) c

  • Good job on the backpacking tips. I am a ziplock person myself. Each meal planned out. God job of instruction and good common sense. Thanks for sharing.

  • @MarkJonesRanger Glad you enjoyed it ;) c

  • Just curious, you make a point of sharing that your "debt free". Did you have a problem with debt? Also what kind of work did you retire from in order to live debt and job free? Last thing, I saw the shower video..............nice!!! I would trade places with Mike any day!!

  • @chuckv5150 We have no retirement. We made a point to say we work in real estate (self employed) on our own terms and when we choose to do so. In other words...since we don't have any debt we don't work because we have to, we work because we want to. We worked hard and sacrificed a lot to be free of debt and paid for our current home with cash. Makes for a much happier life. Thanks for watching and for commenting ;) c

  • Subscribed. Check out my dehydrated food reviews. Lots more to come

  • ok well i have a question, idk if you guys are into the whole SHTF senario deal but wouldnt it be a good idea to start a fire with a stick just to know you can do it? im not being a jerk so dont take me wrong you guys do a great job. i just thought i would ask.

  • @greatwhitejake Yes we're are into the SHTF thing and have a bug out bag set up separate from this. It's just when we go hiking it's for enjoyment...not survival. We plan on doing more survival type videos in the future. We also do some prepping as well. Thanks for watching... and for commenting. :) c

  • Camp shower? Those two words don't belong together.

  • Yeah my first time on a backpacking trip I had too much of everything. I could have stayed there for weeks with what I had.....lol We had a group of three so we decided to take my cousins 9 man tent.....everyone at the camp called it the Taj Mahal...lol we had plenty of room :)

  • @davidsquall351 I feel sorry for whoever had to carry the Taj Mahal ;)c

  • @SoulSurvivorX2 I carried the poles and my cousin carried the tent.

  • Great job! you might try one of the bosh and lamb bottles for contacts. It works much better for alc. and duck tape works good for preventing blisters and is cheaper. I normally just put duck tape on before i start hiking just to prevent. Next trip you might want to try Woody Gap to Hog Pen gap. Its about the prettiest section in georgia. Especially in the fall.

  • @ReeperzOutdoors Thanks...we're actually putting together plans for our October hike now

  • 3 whole days ?? nice

  • I have gone backpacking to two places in the last month. One was in Iowa and one in Missouri. order a video camera light weight, and now it's in after being back ordered. I got rid of the tent light. I have a small flash light and head lamp, don't need any more. Went to a lighter tent after first time out. I cut my food down the weight and still came home with some. Your advise to go was worth it.

  • good stuff. i always take the powder. i like the curad cloth bandaids they seem to stick forever on me.

  • I recommend a tube of store brand A and D ointment for chafing. It costs about $3 and is a miracle in a tube!

  • I want to know about the stove? Did you make it? How was the alcohol stove?

  • @MFCrow I saw the stove video, would you upgrade the stove your use that again?

  • Lessons learned is great... Swapping out the my flip flops now and adding more moleskin.

    Good stuff. Thanks

  • @2kargarage1 thanks for the sub...subbed back :)

  • Subd

  • Thanks for the tips.

  • I found that I also took too much food. I hiked Shining Creek to Shining Rock. The foot powder seems like a good idea. Thanks for the vids they are helpful.
