As a fighter and martial arts with actual combat experience, I really have to recommend that individuals looking to "disarm" a predator with a gun, move off-line (out of the way of the muzzle) before yanking or twisting on a pistol with a bad guy's finger on the trigger. This technique will likely get you shot and severely injured or killed. Being assaulted by an armed assailant is an extremely, rare occurrence; but, if it does happen...remember, you are not the Dos Equis guy :-)
I'd say it pays to be proactive, if you think you've seen a gun on the waist of a man whose threatening you, walking away may get you shot in the back, take him down. If you think he may be reaching for something, take him down, standing may get you killed. People should try to avoid trouble of course, but if it's inevitable, take him down first, period. A lot of people are pulling weapons now a days, no time for arguing and pussy footing and waiting for the man to hype himself to pull it.
This is great and all, but I wouldn't recommend it in real scenario's, better to just rush the guy, grab the hand with the gun and pointing away quick as possible hitting him with everything you've got. This is good, but possibly for professionals, and even professionals still get hurt in real scenarios involving guns and knives. This will work for only one guy. That guy in the video, everyone else watching and trying this will get shot in the face. Better to give up your wallet if that's the only thing they want.

Not at all practical, despite having prior MA experience, it is just not worth to gamble your life over such techniques. Just give the dud some cash and run, then call 911.
seems effective and probably is in "some situations". However, i study ninjutsu and first and foremost is to "re-direct" the line of fire then apply the technique. Even Krav Maga has a tech. similar to this but they emphasize "re-directing". No hate! keep it up
@pfiberoptik I agree that this is a poor example of a pistol disarm. The move is too dramatic, and has you grabbing the gun first rather than what you should be doing (redirecting the weapon).
but the reason the demonstratee has his finger out of the trigger guard is because, if done correctly, you will break his finger disarming him. I made that mistake once in training when I was a newbie and ended up dislocating mine.
True, if someone REALLY wants something from you, he does that from a distance. IF someone wants to REALLY kill you, he just does it. Don't listen to him kiddies. Grabbing the slide of a gun is never a good idea on the off chance that they let off a shot, that shit will burn your hand pretty badly. If you're in a scenario like that and you get burned by a gun you won't be able to shrug it off, since you'll be in fight-or-flight mode, as soon as you feel the pain of the burn you will instantly let go and recoil.
@bkzunltd000 Hi, I've been practicing Krav Maga [Isreali Special Forces Defense] for a long time now, and I can guarantee you grabbing the slide of a gun is perfectly okay. Preforming ANY gun defense, the gun WILL go off, grabbing the slide will firstly jam the gun due to the lack of pressure, and the bullet will not even leave the muzzle, and because the slide has not had the chance to move at all due to your grip stopping it, it's just an effect. The Video's technique is very dangerous though.

Or if they are starting low on you with the gun closer to them.. Seems like this specific move depends highly on it being setup perfectly like a trick pool shot. Maybe I'd wrong?

@funkymunky4000 No. The vast majority of people cannot kill another person, even in defense of their own life. Read "On Killing" by Lt Col Dave Grossman. This is a book I highly recommend to martial artists.
This is not one of the better disarming tecs. In ANY disarm the chances are very high that the gun is going to go off. Either from the react of attacker or the twisting of the gun against the trigger finger. You MUST get the gun off line QUICKLY & as far as possible to avoid muzzle blast. Muzzle blast @ close range can cause disorientation, loss of hearing & powder burns. Find a tec that works FOR YOU & practice with an airsoft gun. The gun shoots, nobody gets hurt. Practice practice practice

its always good to learn self defence. but self defence is not always physical. Bruce Lee once said. "I practice the Art of not Fighting at all" Questions to ask yourself in a self Defence situation. What does the attacker want what's being said or displayed. its complex and reading the situation correctly is more important then acting physical. The thing about armed dudes is that they won't point it with the gun right in your face, they'll usually keep their distance. What then? Unless you're Dhalsim, I doubt you'll be able to use this kind of technique on him.
Doesn't this require strength to hit the attacker's wrist in order for him to loosen his grip? People need to disarm a gun that doesn't take much strength, because most of the time the attacker will be much bigger, handgun or not
When I stick a gun to someone, I'm smart enough to do it from far enough away that they can't grab it, fuckin' duh. Hopefully videos like these will just encourage the future victims who have watched them try to close the distance gap between them and their deadly attacker and get wasted.

@RadicalRiteous Or you can always learn Martial Arts. This disarm thing doesn't work 100% of the time but there are quite a lot of martial art techniques that always leaves the gunman's organs in a less than optimal state.
You NEVER get your hands that close to then gun initially, thats a red flag for the attacker. Keep them ready at your side out of the attackers line of sight. Come up and preform the dissarm, talk to your attacker to get his attention off your hands.
@staygold1017x Your weak hand (usually left) grabs the barrel of the pistol and moves it to your right (move your head out of the way). At the same time, take your right hand and grip the back of the handgun and point it away from you. Now you have greater control of the gun, kick the opponent until his primary concern is protecting this balls, then simply rip the gun out of his hands.
It's like anything else at first. 1st time I was terrified, 2nd time I was pissed and scared. 3rd time I was so mad I was insulting the whole group. One punch me in the face before they took off. I'm at the point where if it ever happens again, I'm goin for it. Wish me luck! Lol
@ScaredCivilian I know most of us on here like to think we'd pull something like this off in that situation, but honestly, if it happened to me, I'd hand over the wallet/keys/whatever because no possession is worth dying for in my view. That said, if I had no other option (i.e. they were going to kill me anyway) I'd hope I was brave enough to try and save my own skin if the chance was there.
This move is kind of rash considering most criminals have twitchy trigger fingers on the trigger, while your training with your finger off it. I guess an accidental discharge next to your face is better than going through your face! lol
To continue, yes, maybe THIS GUY can move fast enough to disarm this particular opponent at this range. But can you? Can I? Gun defenses need to be effective at all levels of mastery, and these "techniques" give people confidence that doesn't match their ability.
If I'm threatened with a gun, I'm going to give the guy my wallet, phone and whatever else he wants, then look for a chance to book it. Maybe I'll start running the minute I see the gun, and risk a shot in the back. Safer than this.
First thing I see happening when somebody tries this is them being too slow, and getting shot in the face. He's not moving his body, positioning his legs or snapping that gun arm off to the outside (where he can more safely disarm IF he even wants to try that.)
Nope, just stand there like a stump and hope that a) a gunman will stand that close to you and b) you will be fast enough to move both your hands in a complicated disarm before he moves ONE FINGER. This is not a good move for students.
Let me ask you what kind of trained gunman is going to be holding a weapon like that?. Honestly, one hand grip and the other on his hip like Beyonce? What kind of experienced gunman would even get this close to a target unless under the influence of some sort of impairing substance. This just isn't realistic unless of course your gunman has but not one bit of common sense; in which case you've lucked out.

@oneslowride The way he grabbed it the attacker can't react fast enough to squeeze the trigger the average reaction time for a human being is 0.15 to 0.30 the guy did that faster then the attacker could comprehend whats happening.
Try to do that when you have a real 9mm pointed at you on your brain and see if you will ever think about doing this. I recommend NOT. Best way to disarm a gun man is to do what he/she tells you to do and live another day, if the gunman/woman meant to kill you than you can't stop a bullet. Fact.
Any1 with any handgun sense realizes that getting clear of the muzzle is the 1st step. CLEAR, CONTROL, DISABLE, DISARM. Attempting a disarm is a gamble with your life. Missing a step & U are increasing the odds for failure.
This technique relies primarily on the threat holding the gun in the dumbest position ever & your ability to perfectly snatch the muzzle with 1 hand while the muzzle is still pointing at u. THAT IS STUPID, PERIOD. If the gun moves up or down @ the same instant, u miss.

I've done this(In Training).
it actually takes about 3-5 blinks of an eye(MEASURED) to close that distance.
a gunman would initially pull the trigger but you'd be out of line of fire and you'd be on him before he could re-adjust his aim.
You'd have his gun arm with one hand and be PUNCHING THE SHIT OUT OF HIS THROAT,NOSE,NUTS with free hand. Then twist his wrist/take gun away.

You do realize that by teaching this via an online video, you encourage untrained people to attempt this in situations where it is unnecessary? I'd be surprised if this type of foolish instruction did not cost a person their life. This video is a microcosm of all that is wrong with modern martial arts. Don't listen to him kiddies. Grabbing the slide of a gun is never a good idea on the off chance that they let off a shot, that shit will burn your hand pretty badly. If you're in a scenario like that and you get burned by a gun you won't be able to shrug it off, since you'll be in fight-or-flight mode, as soon as you feel the pain of the burn you will instantly let go and recoil.

@bkzunltd000 Hi, I've been practicing Krav Maga [Isreali Special Forces Defense] for a long time now, and I can guarantee you grabbing the slide of a gun is perfectly okay. Preforming ANY gun defense, the gun WILL go off, grabbing the slide will firstly jam the gun due to the lack of pressure, and the bullet will not even leave the muzzle, and because the slide has not had the chance to move at all due to your grip stopping it, it's just an effect. The Video's technique is very dangerous though.

Pull trigger @ 20 sec mark, over. Or what if shooter was trained too and did not extend the gun out there like a carrot on a stick. Half hip shooting. Or if they are starting low on you with the gun closer to them.. Seems like this specific move depends highly on it being setup perfectly like a trick pool shot. Maybe I'd wrong?

This is not one of the better disarming tecs. In ANY disarm the chances are very high that the gun is going to go off. Either from the react of attacker or the twisting of the gun against the trigger finger. You MUST get the gun off line QUICKLY & as far as possible to avoid muzzle blast. Muzzle blast @ close range can cause disorientation, loss of hearing & powder burns. Find a tec that works FOR YOU & practice with an airsoft gun. The gun shoots, nobody gets hurt. Practice practice practice

ok so i have be watching a lot of these pistol disarm techniques now, is it just me or do they never show the shooter in proper shooting stance... ok so i can disarm a puck kid who thinks that, just because he has a gun the world is his bitch. but disarming a competent shooter with proper stance and shooting distance... two handed and leaning into it that is not gesturing with the weapon saying get down.... just an observation as a CCL. The end of this video does not count, guy was shot period.

Well ur right u can perform AMAZING feats when your faced with death, your senses sharpen and you kick into a "flight or fight" stage and get a rush of adrenline, more muscle power, etc. Bt most people don't hesitate and stand there to let you try and disarm them, or at least I wouldn't. This prolly wouldn't work in most situations just due to the fact most killers know to waste you and not hesitate, and most gunmen won't stand within reaching distance for you to attempt this lol

You NEVER get your hands that close to then gun initially, thats a red flag for the attacker. Keep them ready at your side out of the attackers line of sight. Come up and preform the dissarm, talk to your attacker to get his attention off your hands.

@staygold1017x Your weak hand (usually left) grabs the barrel of the pistol and moves it to your right (move your head out of the way). At the same time, take your right hand and grip the back of the handgun and point it away from you. Now you have greater control of the gun, kick the opponent until his primary concern is protecting this balls, then simply rip the gun out of his hands.

To continue, yes, maybe THIS GUY can move fast enough to disarm this particular opponent at this range. But can you? Can I? Gun defenses need to be effective at all levels of mastery, and these "techniques" give people confidence that doesn't match their ability.
If I'm threatened with a gun, I'm going to give the guy my wallet, phone and whatever else he wants, then look for a chance to book it. Maybe I'll start running the minute I see the gun, and risk a shot in the back. Safer than this.

First thing I see happening when somebody tries this is them being too slow, and getting shot in the face. He's not moving his body, positioning his legs or snapping that gun arm off to the outside (where he can more safely disarm IF he even wants to try that.)
Nope, just stand there like a stump and hope that a) a gunman will stand that close to you and b) you will be fast enough to move both your hands in a complicated disarm before he moves ONE FINGER. This is not a good move for students.

Any1 with any handgun sense realizes that getting clear of the muzzle is the 1st step. CLEAR, CONTROL, DISABLE, DISARM. Attempting a disarm is a gamble with your life. Missing a step & U are increasing the odds for failure.
This technique relies primarily on the threat holding the gun in the dumbest position ever & your ability to perfectly snatch the muzzle with 1 hand while the muzzle is still pointing at u. THAT IS STUPID, PERIOD. If the gun moves up or down @ the same instant, u miss.
