ive said it before that sometimes i just cant stand her, but when she clicks with something, she hits u like a wave of awesomeness like in this piece.
Somehow her voice shines best in the most extreme en demanding repertoire. Just amazing. Has anyone ever heard another soprano hit an E natural like that? There is no audible difficulty in her voice, like there is nothing she can´t do with that voice. But it is not without the needed dramatical tension to make the music come alive.
she has one of the brightest most beautiful tones ever, but her staccati are horrible... still i think the tonal beauty and the size and ringing fullness of her top outweighs her hideous "legato-staccato" or whatever ridiculous name people want to give to her strange technique to make it sound like its very normal and legit
It's normal and legit. This technique is called coup de glotte and it was widely used in 19th century and earlier. It's correct historically and more than that we should be thankful, that Deutekom can show us the way how many operas were sung at the times of their creation.
I have heard so many different Queens of the night. Technically, I think they are all top-level. But no one has convinced me as much as Deutekom. She is dramatic, clean and clear in her coloratura, her voice is even from low to high register. Simply unique.

@deutekomefran all good voices have something to give or contribute to classical music. The variety is important because it contribute to the enrichment of interpretation.

Maria Stader who had a very similar voice, but better technique also made a fine recording of "Christus" with Jan Peerce and Scherchen conducting.

Dutekom is a perfect lirico-coloratura.

A lyric coloratura who sang Turandot, Lady Macbeth, Leonora, Norma and so on? Really? Get real!
