  • I would recover the refrigerant, cut the line set, add copper elbows on both suction and liquid to make it neat and accessible. Replace or add a filter dryer. Nitrogen flood the lines while braizing. pump it down to 250 microns, break with dry nitrogen, do this 3 times. then charge with virgin refrigerant.

    The only thing here is that the customer would be wondering why the heck we wanted to mess with a new install AND the A/C company I used to work for here would not have allowed us to do it. They cared about quanity over quality.

  • Your right shabby installers couldnt have connected there hoses but its copper no matter how tight it was you could always bend the hi side enough to get that hose on

    The SUN is a factor.

    This video was of my coworker. But he was just using that hose for a demonstration.

    The point is 1) the install shouldn't be that way and 2) how did the installers have their hose connected?

  • @salcedojorge ...I use 3 black hoses hoses on my gauges....refrigerant is color-blind and doesn't care what color hose you use....I can't believe how many people are trying to pick the fly shat out of the pepper....THE POINT IS THE INSTALLER WAS A HACK!!...He never evacuated the system (if you think he did, pls explain how) and he never checked the sub-cooling (again, pls explain how)...its so basic!....if he'd have plumbed his copper a little better, there;d be no discussion!!

  • Why would a working man run down another underpaid technician about the schrader valve access? It seems to me the schrader should be engineered clear of the line port like they used to be. That would require more brass and possibly an ell which would drive the cost up $2 each and profits would suffer.

    Next time you complain about how crappy someone else did, take a look at the equipment.

    You have ZERO idea what you are talking and unlike the person who commented AFTER you well understood (xplicytlude) you've missed the entire point.

    The installers obviously installed a brand new system and not only did they not care about the access to the port, they clearly didn't even bother to connect a hose there to vacuum or charge. Which is typical for hackers who are pushed by a boss like this one to bang in an install as quick as possible.

  • i go out to shit like this, i fix it and charge the hell out of them for it, i know its not there fault but goddamn its got to be done.

    pressures have to be checked, doors have to be opened, im not gonna be the sorry ass who doesnt inspect the whole unit while im waiting on vacuum, etc

  • Charge who? The customer? The thing was this was a brand new unit. And they usually sold the 10 yr part and labor warranties too. When the tech went to work on the stuff they were STUCK because it was NEW through the co we worked for, warranties by the manufacture, and we had a boss that thought repairs like TXV's, etc could be done properly in 2 hours every time and would over schedule the calls each day!

  • The coworker made this video. But with as tight of a run as the line was from the wall to the unit, he'd have to turn the unit diaginal to make the line come out straight form the valve enough to get the hose attached. The install should have had some more copper added to do it right but as you can see in some of these videos, I think using any extra copper may have been a forbidden item for the installers to use!

  • You can probably make a good guess on that, given that they didn't care to make the liquid line accessable... :p

  • There is a cd5050 connectors that you can attached to the end of your hose so you can have it fit in tight spot.

  • If I was still working for those bums, I'd have to get me one of those! (This video was taken by my coworker).

    We were wondering how these installers had their gauge on the high side port. We are fairly certain that they had no such device to fit their hose onto that port! :p

  • Where is low lose fitting and why are you hooking up the blue hose?

  • It was a coworker who sent me this video (as noted in the info). I think he was using that hose to demonstrate that there was NO WAY to get any hose in there to check the high side pressure. Also proved that there was no way that the installers used that port during evacuation either!

  • I got 2 h10 you plug in and 1 with batteries and took 1 plug in and did a roger clemens into our dumpster after the same swith I had fixed stopped working again. I swear the yellow jacket handheld will do just about the same. Even tells you on a scale from 1-9 how bad leak you are detecting. carrier reps say H-10 is the best still, but I find it to be the same. Maybe I just know where carriers leak.. cough*(Evap)

    On RTU's I find them to be leaking at the elbow on the discharge line near the compressor.

  • lol I cant find the one with the port caps I saw the other night but lol I watched it and loled. I had a replaced unit by our own company ffs.. Lady said it needed a pound every year since. I whipped out yellow jacket leak detector (the new one) Actually is I think better than an h10 <-- hate h10. The f leak was at the port with the cap lol, pulled metal cap off truck and replaced and tightened with small channel locks. Ok ma'am leak fixed lol.

  • You got a battery powered one that is as good as the H10? Nice. The company my bro in law works for gives them a bag with an H10, battery and inverter! I guess they really like them! They are sensitive, but you have to adjust the knob a lot. My cheap hand held does me just fine. It's an inficon. Only has HI and Lo and one idiot light :p

  • They make 90 degree fittings that you buy and they in a quick connect configuration that allows you to get to harder areas like that maybe and you just release the quick connect fitting like on an air compressor hose so you don't have the refrigerant spraying out while you try to unscrew the hose which always happens with the regular screw on hose by the time you completely unattach it fron the unit

    and you aalso don't get freezerburn eitther with qickconnect hose fittings.

    degree angle also for refrigerant hoses as well as 90 degree angle fittings.All of your HVAC

    wholesalers like Berkheimers and places like that carry them.

  • LOL! I had asked him that myself. He had mismatched hoses for a few days when one broke. Had to take an extra BLUE hose for his high side.

  • lol, maybe a push on the unit will get your hose on but wtf. You outta be able to screw that baby on and diagnose. What a bunch of commision having rejects. They either don't know or don't care about the other side of hvac.

  • Oh they had them. But I wonder if it was EVER hooked up to THAT port? My coworker who took THIS video was using a small hose adapter. If it couldn't go on, nothing else was either! 15 extra minutes and a few inches of copper would have done the job right. But this company cared more about getting it done fast, than getting it done with quality!

    And out here I find that them under trained Chas Roberts techs leave the caps loose, off and the king valve caps loose as well! Even though on them new king valve caps printed in ENGLISH it says to TORQUE them on!
