Good power...novice technique...very novice. The very first thing we teach rowers in our program is ABL-LBA (arms, back legs - legs, back, arms).
Proper Stroke:
-Sit at the "finish position," Firm but not rigid back, leaning back so your shoulders are over your tailbone. legs flat, shoulders and hands relaxed.
-stick your arms out.
-lean forward.
-SLOWLY pull yourself up to the catch position, full compression. Butt never in front of your belly button.
ya but maybe if this guy had form he'd be able to perform well... I'm a sophomore lightweight junior rower at 5'10'' and a 1:33 for 250 is bad. He should be getting somewhere around 1:26 especially if I can average 1:35 in a 8x500... It's all in the form
Man you guys are really butts. Rowing for exercise is NOT the same as rowing a real boat crew or whatever the f** you call it. Keep your criticisms to guys in a boat... not on a piece of exercise equipment.
hey dumbfuck. Besides trying to help him learn technique all this advice will ALSO help him prevent injuries. Trust me, i've seen many a disk go bad due to bad technique all winter.
@whocaresdk you know that a lot of the strain and eventual injury to the back comes from loading up the front end right? so while this probably isn't the ideal rowing technique it is probably a more ideal erging tech..
@patrickbsullivan The strain on your back happens with you open your back too early. The reason why you want to keep your body angle forward while driving with your legs is because you hang more with your skeleton than your muscles. When you hang with your muscles you strain them, which then pull on your disks. Watch any olympian or collegiate rower you'll see them drive with their legs then open their backs after their legs are down. What are your rowing credentials?
@whocaresdk Try doing a dead lift with your back parallel to the ground, now lean back on your heels. Try rowing legs only with your shoulders over your hips, now try with your shoulders over your knees. The load is transferred to the legs and hips when the body is laying back. This isn't done in a boat because there are other factors (SPM effect on hull velocity and direction, blades moving through water, ect). Doing this on an erg is fine. I think snowitall should just keep crushing it.
and wow nice gettin your hands out over your knees before the you come up the slide at a RATIO! dumb ass sorry just get pissed at at these kinda things and your forsure right 'hollandfocus'
obviously this guy dosnt know what he is doing thts not even proper technique at all like wtf your hands are supposed to come straight out parallel with the ground and in a quick manor and then you set the body angle and follow up like wtf is he doing. that pisses me off and im a coxie but i workout with my crew like wow i think you gotta know how to do somethin before you teach it faggot
Yeah dude don't post this shit up you give people bad tips on training and technique..what do you achieve by doing this? and dude can you sustain this poor technique for 90 min ergs? i'd like to see you walk after that haha !! you are like an eratic flee..
Impressive times but the technique is dreadful. The back pulls away too soon and there is no forward movement of the body. The arms are doing all the work.
yeah, the back looks off. you probably already know this, the rowing technique. Legs, back, arms, - arms, back, and legs.. For the full strength, lengthen each of these as much as possible. Its a perfection sport.
That's just wrong. Relax ffs... your movement is too hard and sharp, rowing is a soft sport. Bend your back on the beginning of the stroke, you look like a machine...
dude, you open up with your back way too early. keep the body angle forward a bit till you knees are more down. your legs are much stronger than your back, and you could get injured pretty easily. unless your backs adjusted enough after rowing like this for so long

Good pace but not good technique. Need to rock the body forwards more when coming back up the slide. Seems to be leaning back almost the whole time!

i think the big lesson here is dont try to tell rowers how to row if you have no idea about the technique needed on an erg.
For godsake just ROCK OVER!

you could output a lot more power if you had more length at the catch. Your not using your legs as much as you could

Every time I see a video of a Concept2 rower on YouTube there are assholes that criticise the guys form. What you think is right is irrelivant.
Entropy56 4 years ago
you probably think that way because you're a moron yourself that doesn't know how to take constructive criticism.

Poor form. But a great work-out. Try 12 reps! That is the definition of pain.

You have no angle forward. you must pivot on your hips. if you continue like this you will hurt your back
