The voice you are hearing is Martha Wash who previously sang with a group called the weather girls .She did some work for blacbox which was under the guise of remixes , but they used all the verses and used this model above in all the songs she covered.Martha Wash is a what i would call a full figured woman and did not get the credit for the work until the controvesy broke out , but lovely melody. The original song was done in the 70's by Earth Wind and Fire.

Urgh what a personal journey >.< I had this song on my mind randomly on and off for over ten years, and today I randomly hummed it out, found that it was an Earth Wind Fire song, but I was *sure* that there was a cover; the cover that had been at the back of my head for so long. That leaves only one more song I need to recall, then I shall be freeeeeee *sigh*

Maybe someone here knows? It can't hurt to try. It was circa 1995-1996 and reminded me several songs for some reason: "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders and "Stay" by Shakespeare's Sister (esp. when the vocalist hits the high notes). The lead was a woman wiith close cropped brunette hair, and it had a desert theme. The song itself...IIRC it was a kind of ballad; inspirational, but I've looong since forgotten *any* of the lyrics, and I'm fairly sure this group was a one-hit deal.

@Thesmarill Nope; this was 80's;the song I was thinking of was definitely 1994-1996, somewhere in that tmeframe. But thank you for your help :) The melody in the song is quite interesting, isn't it? Nice voice as well.

One of my all time favorite performance memories is when I saw Martha Wash live at Vortex nightclub in Chicago (1994??) and she held my hand all the way through the first verse of this song. I thought I'd died & gone to heaven!! I can't imagine the thought process of putting this lip syncing heifer in her place! Martha is gorgeous!

She should have been given the correct words even if she was only lipsynching. The most obvious example is at 1:42, the real lyric is "bringing life to your kingdom of doing." hmm But she does look pretty as she flubs up. As far as the song itself, I think that Martha's vocals are even stronger than the original EW&F. A true dance classic. Too bad about all the controversy that still surrounds it.

@geministico: This was maby in the late 1980s. Nowadays Girls like Adele or Beth Dith are very successful and they don't look like models. But both are beautiful woman. By the way Alison Moyet was a big star in the 80s and she wasn' super-Slim.
