I am an ardent lover of carnatic music, old and from Tamil Nadu. I dont' care if she mispronounces the words. It slightly bothers me when she changes the words that change the meaning. It will be boring if every one sang the same way. I like her voice and the way she has put these songs together. It is enchanting. She is exposing our music to those who may not listen to it. I also like her for that.
I also heard her and I would like to say one thing. The great composers of Carnatic music dont have a patentship for their music, so anyone can take their music and manipulate. This is what Susheela is doing for long time. She slaughtered songs like"Sarasasama" , "Nagumomu" through her albums. This is a big injustice to the great composer, if she want to do fusion, create first....don't use divine carnatic music song!
Love Susheela Raman!! I've been addicted to her rendition of Ye Mera Divanapanan Hai ever since i heard it in the brilliant film The Namesake starring the gorgeous Tabu and Kal Penn among other talented actors. She should come to South Africa!!
What's the fuss about? It's a beautifully refreshing production. For those of us who are Indians, but are not Indian born, this genre of music is the coolest. It keeps South Indian music alive. Even my daughter, who would not normally listen to traditional South Indian music, li\oves it. So, you go Susheela Raman. We love you!!!
Totally innovative. Proudly South Indian from South Africa. Susheela Raman is a revelation for us who are not so into ragas and purely traditional music. She is ssssssuperb!!! I'm so proud of her...
Vishaka Hari - 3 - kApinarAyaNi - sarasa sAmadAna...one original version for whon wants to compare (I listened to Santhanan singing...despite of pronunciating perfect It`s useless for occidental ears).
This one, the girl looks really charming and I`m used to this way of singing despite of being Brasilian...but how can people close theirselves inside their closed mind ? start thinking that this is a very beautiful way of sharing your culture with the world, singing tradicion on an new way!

WTF!!?? I'm sorry. I consider myself broad-minded and accepting of pretty much all kinds of innovation in music. But this is truly the limit! It's deliberate murder of Kapi Narayani and Shri. Tyagaraja's kriti. I guess nowadays anything passes for creativity.
oh boy.. kapinarayani undergoing a slow death...!cydonian, the original keerthana is Thyagaraja's sarasa samadaana in kapi narayani. listen to a santhanam version or something similar to really appreciate how good it is..

what on earth made this female to sing this amazing song like this? this is disgusting. I am happy that the song composer is no longer alive. certain things have to be done the way it has to be done. I am surprised that her parents are from India. Whtever Pls pronounce the lyrics properly. or else stop doing this non sense. Pls dont call it Fusion and spoil the beauty . learn to respect our tradition.I am very upset after listeing to this. Will never ever listen to this. thanks.
whatever...the funny thing is its beautiful! and that's tony allen playing drums which is something your average carnatic fundmentalist proabably doesn't understand. if you don't like it dont listen. there are plenty of other versions. do go and get lives. susheela is great...check out her other videos here
P.S: I'm a lover of fusion and I respect many fusion artists who are really good and understand music.. coz music is not just instruments and arrangement. Music means Proper pronounciation of Lyrics tooo... if at all she wants to show off her instrumental talent then let her not use lyrics or atleast indian lyrics which have etched in our hearts... thanks for your understanding
one worst way of pronouncing telugu and in the name of fusion or whatever she calls this genre... "SHE HAS SPOILED THE SONG" the song is a great composition by Sri Thyagaraja... and I'm happy that Thyagaraja is no longer with us to listen to this song and similar ones...
Oh Rama! You are the One who knows how to use the saama, daana, bEdha and danDa methods at the appropriate time. No one can be compared to you. Please help me. RaavaNa, the most devoted bhaktha (devotee) of Lord Shiva, could not understand this truth. You sent many calming words to him through your messenger. You even granted Ayodhya to RaavaNa. Finally, you conquered him and made his brother Vibheeshana the king of Lanka.
This stupid lady called Susheela Raman just managed to mutilate a great Tyagaraja krithi. I am sure she doesn't even know the name of the language of the original lyrics, let alone understand them. For viewers who don't know, the song was originally written and composed by Tyagaraja in Telugu, a south Indian language, in the raagam Kaapi Narayani. It explains the four strategic expedients of persuasion, temptation, separation and subjugation (in that order) used by Lord Rama to defeat the evil.
The singer has mispronounced the original lyrics beyond recognition. Covers are cool, but we're talking basic cognitive abilities here; if you can't pronounce the words properly, there's little chance of conveying meaning or recording a tribute.
THAT said, I actually like the musical arrangement; just wish the singer went the full mile and made a _little bit_ of an effort at pronouncing the 16th century lyrics properly.
here parents are from Tamil Nadu, India. so it just shows that you are narrow minded. and usually narrow mindedness is not a trait of an artist. you actually should appreciate that she is helping to keep South Indian culture alive.

totally ruined the sweetness of the song and insanely murdered the emotion and devotion of the song........

Why do you use the word "mutilate"... Why do you say she doesn't even know the language & the lyrics??
This song is a cover... Well... Where is the problem? It doesn't mean she dont't know the original song. It could be a tribute.

Greats like Madurai Mani Iyer used to murder the sahitya too !!!!
This is the new-age-fusion-type-rendition. Keeps and extendes St.Tyagaraja's relevance beyond Chennai and Margazhi.
