I was watching MTV all day, it's almost unbelievable that they used to play music like this. (or music at all) Nowadays they could change the 'Music' in their name to something else
I had forgotten just how good this band was.Did have a couple of albums by them too-was not the vocalist related/a sibling of former F1 driver PerryMcCarthy??
Got to meet Doug after an awesome show here in Vancouver during the Ebbhead tour. Being "that total underage" I went through hell to get into that no minors gig; but it was worth it. Saw some footage of them back together with some girl on drums. Wonder if they're going to make a comeback to Canada.
Back in the '90s we took some friends out to an industrial club to hear music. They took one listen to e.g. Nitzer Ebb and responded with a now classic line:
"This isn't music - this is just noise!"
We couldn't disagree, but what awesome noise it was...
Please... TG arent only a name,(i only say the label they formed, Industrial Records, named the movement) they started the industrial movement and they maked their instruments to make their music(very much before Einsturzende neubaten), when i say they started the movement is because they started the movement, other bands do the same things like TG, please read the wikipedia or something if you dont believe me. (and the actual industrial isnt similar to original...)
Throbbing Gristle are the fathers of industrial, they founded "Industrial records"(this is the reason this kind of music is called "industrial")Throbbing Gristle was pioneering in the use of samples pre-engravings and use of special effects to produce a distinctive and highly distorted background usually accompanied by sung or spoken letters. And they produced some bands like monte cazzaza, cabaret voltaire.. alan wilder doesn't.
That's an interesting point. TG = industrial because of a record label, whereas Godflesh = industrial because their early shit sounds like it was made in a weapons factory.
But whatever...it's all good whether it's called industrial or metal or electronic or auntie susan.
Monte Cazzaza coined the term "industrial music for industrial people" after listening to work by TG. Therefore industrial was used to describe TG first and they get full credit. it wasnt until later did people try and define what industrial music was and then bands fit into that description
what??? after the 90ies???!!!...the 90ies where that century dm dropped everything, in their music, that sounded industrial. that was the time when dm started to act like a ordinary mtv rockband!
what a bullshit! there have been the "brutiste's" in the early 19th century which made music out of indutsrial noises way before TG,CV,NE, Front , minstry and so on. Even Stockhause did industrial way earlier!
just becauise the media adopted the term "industrial" years later doesen't mean that TG where the first band to do this!
If you like Nitzer ebb, very advisable Band: DEVOUT, writes in you tube:
- DEVOUT All empires fall
- DEVOUT Eternal conflict

they're clones only insofar as both bands' artistry doesn't rely on the 6-string retardation that's tended to pollute popular music since the 50s.

Loosened/funked up just the slightest bit from previous album (That Total Age). Still hits hard, with more of a sly menacing edge.

I'd agree, the only new bands that are doing anything vaguely good or original with it are Combichrist and :wumpscut:
Sesquipedaliantique 4 years ago
i disagree. wumpscut has some gems mixed in every album but combichrist sounds like just fluff to me.
DeadDoll68 4 years ago
Fair enough. CC is undeniably good drinking muisc though.
Sesquipedaliantique 4 years ago
Yeah :WUMPSCUT: is my favorite band ever, but some of the new stuff (Exept Cannibal Anthem) sucks...
I regard Neubauten as the first 'real' Industrial band cause they barely ever used synths and made their own instruments :P
