  • sounds like J:S: Bach to me

  • an extraordinary dancer. anybody knows where she is now since she left BDSS crew?

  • I have very curly long hair n sexy body n every one loves my erotic belly dance but when i watched sonia !!!!!Wow that's an amazing n sexy belly dancer , I really wished to see her second part when dances faster with a fast beat , she is so gorgeous

  • her hair is AMAZING!!

  • me encanta!! el traje es preciosoooooooo :)

  • somebody knows where I can find the complete video`s Sonia!!!?? thanks

  • @6Miroslava Hi! I don't think you can find it, because it was a small show and there were no cameras in it, and I just filmed what i could.

  • Well, I don't believe I've ever seen someone belly dance to organ piano music before. That's definitely... interesting.

  • @Dawn2Dusknback In fact, you can take a look to Saida, a bellydancer from Argentina, who's been dancing for years with The Horus Orchestra. They always play this kind of music. You can listening to Mario Kirlis, it's amazing!

  • @Estefania89

Mario Kirlis is amazing! He and his orchestra came to Hong Kong last year to perform in the Raqs Hong Kong (Int’l) Belly Dance Festival 2010, it was absolutely wonderful!

  • who is the wonderful band?

  • @psychobunny32 The Horus Orchestra!

  • News flash for those talking about matriarchal societies: There were none. If it can be traced back to Margaret Murray's (debunked) theories, then it's not a reliable source. Murray was an Egyptologist, not an anthropologist, and she jumped to conclusions so many times it's a wonder she didn't get whiplash. That being said, bellydance is a wonderful celebration of womanhood. You don't need an imaginary matriarchal society to appreciate that.

  • thats cool

  • Nice and heart-felt...

  • I Was Distracted By Her Stomach:/

  • I really like the music

  • nice to see a dancer who is not skinny.

  • You have a beautiful belly and navel, delicious curves. Love the cossy.

  • @johnbp78130 You are watching BELLY dance, not anorexic-see-your-ribs dance. Get a clue.

  • @lisalrocks You are so right - real women have curves!!

  • @Syuni2Kiss actually you are wrong she has a perfect body for BELLY dance, shut up

  • hooooooooooof sho ebt5zyyyyyyy

  • The song is "chik chak chok"

  • wonderfull dancer wonderfull woman. healthy and no fat! who says she is fat has a duble vision. she is perfect! the music? may be Bach or something similar...what's a pity the interruption....

  • BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She's totally dancing out of the musik or is it my eye?

  • Beautiful dander, beautiful moves. Every dancer has their own style but Sonia has finesse and not all bellydancers can say that. By the way if anyone doesn't like this music nor this style of dance then maybe they shouldn't sit there and watch it and then insult all those who do like it, that just shows how ignorant some people are.

  • Sadie and Sonia have very different styles: Sadie KILLS the drum solo, she can't be touched, but Sonia is very good at the slower, sensual stuff - it may be part of her personality

  • Beautíful costume! WOOOOW

  • again, this lady is nothing compared to Sadie

  • :O This woman has a body and bellydances very similar to me... i'm flashed o.o

  • I do not understand why you are fighting so much, "that if any of you think that Sonia looks fat , if not, that if Sadie is better or not," I think the important thing is that everyone can share and learn from the other, remember that in Oriental Dance or Bellydance, there are no steps or perfect dancers, there are dancers with passion and love of art ; but mostly doing what they like, each dancer has their own style, we must be tolerant , greetings to all, God bless you always!!

  • her hair is so pretty

  • I adore that costume...

  • ez una odalizca.!

  • taxim y baladi by horus arab music, i guess...

  • more like arm dancing.

  • @KimmyHEARTSx33 Sometimes for tuxsim it's nice to incorporate a lot of arm work and really quiet body work so to not overload the audience with information. If you throw out all your tricks and all of your stomach/hip work in one dance then you'll have nothing left for other dances and people won't find you interesting because hey, you've seen every single move you can do already. I thought her dancing was nice. Simple and elegant.

    11.71080457

  • oh this video is too dark. sonia is so beautiful on live shows, much more beautiful than on this one.

  • not as good as sadie

  • Thank you! MayaRaqsTheDance is right! finally someone with knowledge of belly dacing! But the only thing is that they weren't allowed to shoe skin. They had layers and layers of clothes so hip movements and whatnot had to be more drastic.

  • name of the song , please

  • @VeraVoile sorry, i don't know the name of the song :S

  • @VeraVoile it is Taxim and baladi also known as baladi Fairuz

  • excellent shimmi

  • wow i love her costume. It's soooo beautiful

  • que bonito cabelloo!O.O baila bien

  • Yes, it is.... Bellydance is initially meant to be a seductive dance so yeah.... It's perfectly normal for you to feel that way... LOL

  • I hate to be one of those people who corrects others, but belly dance originated as a dance for women, not men. It was used to ease the pain of child birth and as a celebration of womanhood. Only in more modern culture is it viewed (wrongly if I might add) as something sexual.

  • Well.... Not literally to ease childbirth... But yeah, the flexibility in it....

Its origins were for those purposes but it transformed (Before reaching the west) into a sexual dance..... A lot of the moves are seductive and were initiated during the western occupation of eastern countries whereby the officials of the western government were entertained by a harem of women by bellydancing....

    =D

  • There is actually no evidence that it was originated in this way. In egypt sex was sacred, and there are many paintings depicting naked dances by women. We see sex as sleazy -b ut they did not back then and so it was not seen as bad to be seductive and sensual. We can only theorize on how the dance came about as it has evolved and changed endlessly. The dance as we know it now comes mostly out out of the Orientalist movement and is a fantasy - a beautiful fantasy too.

  • Probably only during the time of a matriarchal society would this kind of dance have been revered for what it really means. I really long for that to come back....seriously over the male dominated view of female sensuality and sexuality. This is beautiful...

    Powerful. Amazing.

  • @Kayenne54

I could not have said it better myself. I think the tides are shifting though, there will be a equal balance soon, for sure.

  • @Kayenne54 isn t it obvious for everyone in the western world that it is dominated by women (and faggots) only who turn their kids to total garbage ? When do you live ? in the 1930s?

  • @Kayenne54 Belly dance is very prevalent in the Arab world, esp. in Egypt where 1/3rd of women can belly dance. Just because they do it away from cameras and men doesn't mean that they can't dance. I hate when people make assumptions without any evidence. Are you suggesting that Arab society was at one time matriarchal and that it was possible to see open displays of belly dance? Show your proof please. I for one am proud to say that our society has always maintained its honour and dignity.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance, EXACTLY! Its always misunderstood as this 'Harem Shuffle', that was performed only for men, prior to sex, and it pisses me off immensly that people dont know that massage and belly movements were used to manage menstrual cramps and dancing was a stress reliever and a form of bonding and expression in a severely male dominated environment. In many ways the tradition was kept going like that of the shackled Africans in the Americas, to keep body and soul together.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance yes and i'll add that before even fat womens were belly dancing and it might be like that now , i'm not anorexic or skinny and i do belly dance.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance haha you know nothing about this dance!!! read this - and you will know that male bellydancers have a long tradition! Zadiel.de and than artikel in the new york times!

  • @ZadielTV I never said men don't belly dance. We actually have 3 in our troupe. Don't assume that I don't know that because I didn't write it.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance I also hate to be one of those people who correct others, but belly dance was always and will always be sexual. Do you think celebration of womanhood has nothing to do with fertility? and fertility has nothing to do with sexuality. Everyone knows how babies are made. And usually after that dance women had sex, read old Arab tales and you will see. And of course sexuality is connected to childbirth. Don't be in denial. and for conclusion, sexual is not bad, it is natural.

  • @StrangeTorbar I never said the two were not connected. But there is a difference between being elegant about it and being scandalously skanky and promiscuous. I think maybe you are obsessed with sex. I checked out your profile and it seems that most of your comments are about that particular subject. Don't hate on me because I think belly dance should be performed in a classy (not trashy) manner. Sonia pulls it off beautifully.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance I am not talking about promiscuous behavior(whatever that means), just what I know from history, that on that celebrations of womanhood, in temples they were doing belly dancing until reaching trance and then they had sex. At that time it was normal, and they were considered as almost goddesses. I am talking about time before monotheism. I've seen better dances than this girl in my Arab family. I didn't hate on you, I just corrected you, and you are offended.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance And as for the profile, I made it an hour ago, so you didn't have much to check. I made comments because I hate when I see that people are against natural, and sex is natural, nothing to be obsessed with. Also I am a married young girl, and yes I enjoy having sex with my husband, nothing scandalous about it. I don't see belly dancing as art, because it was never art, it was part of ceremony and later entertainment. So for fun, girls should dance however they can.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance because real art should have message, as theater for example, but not any theater, for example Bertolt Brecht's theater is the greatest for me. Ok maybe belly dance has message but not artistic one, It's original message is: ,,look at me, I am fertile, come and take me''. and today it looks nice and is flirty, and belly dancer is flirting with those who are watching her, and In my family case, message is stand up girls, let's have fun and joy together.

  • @StrangeTorbar if you don't think its a form of expression or that it can't tell a story other than "come take me" watch my marionette belly dance. It tells a story. Also, sex is natural, but it shouldn't be sold. I'm a biology major and I know that, evolutionarily, sex has advantages. But too much is a disadvantage with over population. Its about balance.

My opinion's based on history I've read in books on it. So if it doesn't match yours then I apologize. But don't assume I'm ignorant.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance It is a form of expression, but I don't think it can tell a story.

As for overpopulation and sex...well there are condoms, birth control pills... And Also sex is healthy.

Actually I don't believe in most things History books say, or most books at all, I am kind of agnostic for most things I heard in life. If you have some link for belly dance that tells story, send me in inbox, I would love to see something new

  • @StrangeTorbar Posted. If you can't see the story, then I'd be surprised. If belly dance is expression...and expression is art then belly dance can be art. I treat it as such. That is my style of belly dance. There are countless forms. Not all originate from the same cultures or beliefs. Therefore, there are many reasons for the dance. There is no true and genuine proof of how it started to my knowledge. There are only theories and speculations.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance I will see it now, but first respond, expression isn't always art, as for example expression of body and face, mimics etc For me dancing is just beautifull skill and in most places It is part of folklore, something that was part of ceremonies and also way for people to spend some quality time with other people, most of dances are still actually there in order to show strength and agility .Still girls judge men on the way they move for example. So I also think that dance is ...

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance Very important, even primary, it is very important part of art when combined with acting, singing, and telling a story, It was condition in order to make art possible, because I know that out from ceremonies, came art. And I know that every art uses beautiful skills. But in my opinion, and my opinion only, it has to have something more, some strong message, or brilliant Idea. Something to give you reason to think about. Now to see you dancing

I enjoyed this conversation at the end

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance wrong again....this is what fat tribal dancers say to make themselves feel better....do some research....it was started for just plain fun and entertainment for BOTH men and women.

  • @bj27filly You, my friend, are ignorant. Provide a vetted source for your claim or refrain from posting.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance yup in the modern day... its something explicit, some people doesn't know the history of belly dancing so they look at it in the physical aspect.... and looking at the body and the moves make them more sexually attracted to watching it.... not for the fact that belly dancing is an art! a form of celebration... good thing there are people like you who understands what belly dancing is about!!! good onya !

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance Finally someone who knows....thank you.

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance that right! is noy sexual ! respect dance of other country stupid people -.- think is sexual ahha i think is insulting

  • @MayaRaqsTheDance Sexuality is all about the celebration of gender differences. :P But I do agree that it is OVERsexualised by modern culture.

  • nice

  • in which dvd can i find this performance?

  • Luv the outfit!!!!!!

  • shes rele good but a bit stiff in some of the moves

  • I've seen some of Sonia's work before and she did much better then. This performance is boring. what a shame.

  • Sonia always had been boring.

  • irts so borning

  • Oh ! what a curve.

  • You remind me of Uma Thurman playing Poison Ivy in that Batman movie. (;D)

  • You are AMAZING! Your armwork has me taking notes. Definitely am a fan:)

  • She's so gorgeous! I love her hair.

  • shes not fat. watch belly dancers when they move it looks like they have fat but they're body needs to be that way so it looks right or graceful when they move their body. end of discussion

  • your not a good belly dancer sadie is she is the best iv sen ever so haa

  • why must you judge her? Her dance is a beautiful gift to the world, as is Sadie's. Both are unique and wonderful.

  • Really beautiful woman in all aspects and excellent raqs dancer. 5 Stars.

  • No way she is definitely NOT fat at all !!!! gosh if all women had her body surgeons would be outta work !

  • how can you call her fat??? she is a NATURAL female - no weights or surgeries or starvation. natural female womanly bodies look like hers, and she is nto fat at all. she's feminine. six packs are masculine and not naturally female.

  • So? there are some very voluptuous belly dancers out there. I don't know who you were watching Shake, but she's not fat. You've got a twisted vision of the word "fat" then, if that's what you think :P.

  • shes so skinny if you see her in normal clothing

    almost anorexic looking

  • all of the BDSS are really thin in normal clothes. you should see them in the documentary 'american bellydancer.'

  • she's not thin, she's healthy

  • @DevonRe no kidding.... i'm about the same dimensions and i'm not.. uhh.. fat.

    what wrong with people?

  • @DevonRe yup she's healthy and in the belly dancing world bodies varies,,, it can be smaller frame or bigger frame... but in the arab world bigger frame is so beautiful for them.... we wouldn't want to see too much bones would we!?? so nice observation DevonRe

  • @vodkamilkshake Seriously? You can see her ribs when she moves fyi, that means she's NOT fat And who the hell cares what you think? You probably think women who are sticks and anoexic are sexy People like you give a NATURAL bodies a bad name

  • Not bad, but that has to be the worst belly dancing outfit I've ever seen.

  • wow sadie is WAAAYYYYYY better

  • sonia ist fantastic.her dance, charm, beauty. i like her moves and style

  • god damn so graceful!

  • She's from Mexico but her dancig is hawaian and arabic...

  • yh oaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • She is not latin, lol she's hawaiian. She has a really pretty way of expressing with hands have you noticed? That's because of her hawaiin roots.

  • She is latin, but has a background in polynesian dance, along with mexican and flamenco.

  • Mexican Flamenco? :o I thought that was only a Spanish thing.

  • Flamenco is "a spanish thing". That's why I said Mexican (folk) AND flamenco. Both styles...

  • READ THE BACK OF HER DRUM SOLO DVD. "Her ancestry drew her to latin styles, flamenco, and Mexican folk. She also trained and performed Polynesian styles before graduating to belly dancing as her major love."

  • i've seen better

  • Yeah, but the problem is she wouldn't do you. Imbecile.

  • Why are people always comparing Sonie to Sadie? They are different people and different dancers. Why can't we appreciate each person and dancer for what they bring? I personally prefer Sonia, I think you have to see her live to trully appreciate her, but Sadie is very good, I have also have seen her live.

  • I agree... Their styles are really different anyway. I think Sadie is more earthy than Sonia for one thing, and then if you put Didem in the mix then there you have three totally different dancers who are all amazing. There doesn't have to be a number one in belly dance, and there never will be. It's stupid to try and compare when you get to this level of talent.

  • i dont know where this sonia sadie thing came from

    it came out of nowhere

    apples and oranges

    they are so different!!!!!

i prefer sonia too but i can accept that sadie has more technical skill maybe she has been dancing longer

    but they're so different

  • cool i prefer sadie but they are so different i don't think they can even be compared!!

They both are good, it's not about technique but i think styles

  • yeah , sonia is latin and thats way she is supose to dance better than sadie!! but she's not ... so sadie its more clear and consistent she is a perfect dancer!

  • i went to see bellydance superstars a couple of weeks ago, she has gotten so much skinnier! and a lot better.

  • I like her style and hair

  • Excellent shimmy.

  • i think was technically a hip freeze not a shimmy

  • Ummm... Yes, that was a shimmy.. Just performed differently... There are two ways of performing a shimmy, one of them is the one she uses and the other is the one you see in tutorial videos whereby it's a fast hip shake...

  • there wayyy more than 2 ways to perform a shimmy, w/ the glutes, obliques, legs... but a shimmy is a loose big movement a freeze is a small fast vibration like what sonia did, some people however do call it a tension shimmy or a freeze shimmy

  • Thanks jade... That's something new I've learnt... =D

Seems like I need to do more in-depth reading to a achieve a better insight... =)

    Thank you very much! :)

  • there are like hundreds of countries that belly dance.. dont fight over which one does it best okey!!! idk why spanish countries think their the bellydancers.. yall do the bachata or somethin.. arent yall tribal

  • Her technique has improved tremendously since she started.. good for her! Nice costume too. I still wish her face would show SOMETHING. The ice queen thing is only going to take her so far.. if she learned to EMOTE when she dances, she could be great. But not today..

  • What's with the funeral music???..Lol

  • Wow, I love her shimmy!
