The only problem is that there is no way to adjust the height of the handlebar stem, so as to reduce arm pressure. For that reason, the new fixed spacer stems are inferior to the older adjustable quill stems, which had about a 3 inch range. Unless you want to BUY a new stem (good for the manufacturer; bad for you!).
The old rule of thumb for road bikes was to have the handlebar height the same as the seat height. With the new spacer stems, this is rare!
It's pretty easy to adjust the height of the stem on a threadless headset. Unscrew the top cap, unscrew stem pinch bolts, remove stem and spacers then reinstall them in the neccesary order. Tighten everything up and you're good to go.
@trogedon well to be fair if you're above a novice I think you're also going to look for more than 2 minutes of instruction on fitting your bike. I think this is a good, quick video for people looking to get in to road biking. If you're above a novice I would think you already know how to fit your bike?
they should be level with the ground. And more specifically you should drop a line from the little bone protruding from your knee thru the center of the pedal axle, then adjust your cleats so they are centered on the balls of your feet. Then make adjustments after riding.
I've watched a LOT of videos on fitting, listened to several 'bike people' talk about it in LBS and on forums - but I'll call yours the BEST. Super helpful. THANKS!
Fantastic. I've been looking for a clear depiction of riding posture. I can see my arms are too locked out. I will be buying a new stem. Very helpful, thank you.
Anybody else notice this guy changes between spandex bike pants to shorts about 8 times in this video?

An inch clearance?! What about the difference between compact, semi compact and standard frames? This is fitting for very novice riders at best.

I'd say go to your LBS and have them put you on a trainer and do your measurements properly.

for the step at 1:16 what position does the pedal have to be in? i figure that would affect the adjustment quite a bit..

I was thinking the only good way to fit a road bike is to have your arms straiten, so i guess its not (which i like) Thanks !
