@dvdsmlprstylr You wanna try to do this in front of a live audience and TV cameras? Too fucking right this is dangerous. There is a major crash hovering over every note. They are BOTH playing like the devil and they have to stay synched. Watch it again, look how fast their fingers are going... and they are doing it together. This is an insanely difficult piece of music.
Its weird been watching Later with Jools for years and heard so many people playing on his show but have never truly realized how great he is in his own right.
David Sanborn? Wow... I totally forgot about this show! Great memory! One of my favorite Sanborn performances was David (leading the lounge band in the hotel) in True Lies, when Arnold rides his horse (in persuit of bad guy), startling Sanborn & his band! Funny days!
last time I head Dr J do anything like this was on Marylin McPartlan's show 'Piano Jazz'. A hour of her a the Dr chatting about the music, & ending it up with a complex jazz duet like this. I've still go a old casette tape of that show.
My dad's from new orleans, so I grew up with the doctor-
Saw him live last year. He came out on stage in a purple suit, with a gold cane, and he could play and sing with as much energy as he could then. Tha man has CLASS!
Went to see Jules Holland at a garden party concert outside a stately home near London and it was absolutely brilliant. No problem getting right up to the stage within 20 feet of him and dancing like crazy.
By contrast, went to see Mark Knopfler - a lifelong dream of mine to see him live - at the NEC Birmingham and it was like being in fucking school. Couldn't move without a Nazi-Steward keeping you in your seat. They even stopped a girl boogying in her seat! Never go to the NEC ever again.
I just listened to both players and John has a more solid timing while Jules has monster technique, he is slightly ahead of the beat but it he played with this method and came back on the beat and even got behind it he would have shown true genius. The Dr. is the best.
as per the host's warning... Do not try this at home. You will put yourself at deep risk of..... actually scratch that comment like the person said before the host is just a moron.
If you want to see the same clip in better quality and without the "moron" (which I think was a little harsh!) then type the following into the search bar: "Four-hands boogie woogie, Dr John & Co."
i should clarify that i didn't mean this was smth easy for ME to do. i meant on a professional level. it's not at all "one of the most difficult and dangerous" far from that.
