Producers over tinkered with the format in the 1980s which effectively killed the series. Unlike many, I dont believe Noele Gordon's departure preciptated Crossroads downfall. It was the unneccessary departure of a string of long serving characters and short lived rebrands which alienated viewers. The 2001 version ended because of 2 factors I believe. 1) The scheduling was poor and 2), it was devised by producers who appeared to have little understanding or appreciation of the original series.
