  • that retart was probably the strongest guy in lockeroom. those tarts are strong. lol

  • "The Canadian Assocation for the Mentally Retarded". lolololololololol

  • I love that what we take away from this, if we're to take the visuals literally, is that we should accept mentally handicapped people into our lives as they can do all of our menial tasks. Tasks such as folding towels and sorting hockey pucks. Oh, and hail taxis!

  • Kenny Hotz used the name Joey when they filmed the "Who is the Biggest Idiot" episode. Anywho, I didn't know he was with the team for so long. He doesn't look old now either.

  • This probably turned out to be harmful for the image of the mentally challenged. Calling someone a "Joey" was synonymous with insulting someone's intelligence. Or scratching behind your ear yelling "Gretzkeeeeeee".

  • its funny, cause he has more money now then all the trolls here LOL

  • He is saying TAXI!!! Not Gretzky. Idiots.

  • you know its old when it says "mentally retarded"

the pc term is now "mentally handicapped"

  • @fetchy15 I was just about to point that out!

  • Retarded is a politically incorrect term nowadays, even though people and kids insult each other with its use to this day.

  • I'm sorry, all, all, all of my friends, even the stupidly politically correct ones remembered this as TAXI !!!! Oh the memories.

  • this commercial is the same way i remember it. i hope wayne gretzsky knows he's Going to Hell for doing this video! i remember at school when i was growing up people would immitate Joey and gretzsky doing that scratching hair thing. Gretzsky made that jester synonymous with the mentaly challenged. i loved the commercial. especially the caption at the end saying it was from " the Canadian Retard Foundtion". i don't like retards but don't make fun of them

  • @TheConspiracyMan8 Growing up in the 90's and never having seen this commercial, there's something surreal about seeing the words 'Mentally Retarded' in front of a freeze frame of Wayne Gretzky when he has that smile on his face. Not that it's shocking that they used the word 'retarded' in the media back then, because I've seen other old stuff with it, but the combination of that with the Gretzky smile is too good.

  • @TTOMO

    Good day

Wooo, here goes,..me coming off like an old man!

I grew up in the '70's,..& was there during the days of this particular advert.

Being labeled "Retarded" was not synonymous with being labeled "idiot",..but being born "retarded from full mental autonomy"...there was no implication back then to laugh or ridicule those folks who were "Retarded" or Handicapped" . IF someone laughed..they did it out of their own lack of humanity or sympathy.

We were finding respect for them then!

  • @TheConspiracyMan8

You don't know what you're talking about. First of all, Joey Moss is the brother of a girl Gretzky once dated in Edmonton. Gretzky got him a job working for the team and the guy has been there ever since. He's an absolute legend in Edmonton. In addition to that, the word "retarded" is actually a proper medical term; however, due to the negative connotations and hurtful tone with which it has come to be associated with, it has been abandoned in years since this commercial.

  • Joey rules!

  • Guys...this isn't the original Getzkee! commercial...there is one before this where the video freezes on the Getzkee! part...am I the only one who remembers that?

  • @iduriduridur the memory cheats my friend. And he's actually saying TAXI.

  • @Retrontario Taxi or not, this still isn't the original commercial. The original commercial had a bunch of other people in the locker room, and the image was frozen on joey's hand behind his ear and Wayne wasn't doing it either. This commercial is making reference to the original one.

Don't get me wrong, you still did a great job pulling this one out dude...but another one is out there, i'm sure of it.

  • @iduriduridur 30 year old memories get foggy, seen? I have spoken with the director of this spot. This is the only one!

  • @Retrontario haha, nice, really? what's his email? I have a few questions myself...ask him what joey as actually saying

  • @iduriduridur @retrontario you may be thinking of this one - replace the video ID with this: r5MheTFJXpA

  • Joey Moss is the man! I freaking love him. He's a huge part of the oilers. He is simply a beauty. <3

  • greatest commercial of all time! SKATSKY! AHHHHH!

  • Man...that Wayne's a class act

  • Oh this is the Joey, that Wayne referred to after he broke the points record.

  • @habs4life9. The only people who are eliminated are Montrealers. Atleast retarded people arnt half as arrogant and proud of a history of losing to the English.

  • if the homo sapiens species were still living as the animals they really are, people like this would have been eliminated through natural selection. no question. that's the way it should be, you get a retard offspring, it's not gonna have the wherewithal to compete with its siblings and survive in the world, and that's how bad genes die out and strong ones survive to the next generation.

  • I was at an Oilers game, went to sit in his seat during the warm up which was two seats down from mine and he freaks out at me, I don't blame him though I just said sorry and moved down, it was funny cause he was VERY pissed, he even gave me the look like I was his worst enemy

  • @Steviecool7

That's because you're a dick. Your seats were in a totally different section and you tried to jack Joey's seat.

  • Wow. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who saw this commercial spawn a schoolyard phenomenon.

  • Ok, it's heartwarming. But when it freezes frame at the end and the music plays I can't help but laugh.

  • Love the music ...

  • I STILL reference this ad! ;P

  • Classic ad and a schoolyard taunt all wrapped into one. Thanks for uploading this!

  • Gretzky!!!! or Taxi!!!!!!! What Moss bellows was always a topic of discussion at my school.

  • @trevolutionn the debate rages to this day....lol

  • @trevolutionn Mine too!Little did Joey Moss & Wayne Gretzky realize that Joey's hand gesture while shouting "GRETZKY" created a monster in the school halls and yards all across Canada!

  • @trevolutionn I was just talking about that a while ago while watching an HNIC story on Moss a few weeks ago. I'm glad I was'nt the only to think he was calling for a "Taxi"..lol.

  • @trevolutionn I'm pretty sure Joey says "Taxi"..It's a joke he's playing on Wayne,Pretending to high five and then hailing a cab."Taxi" has become part of the vernacular here in Edmonton.

  • Been looking for this one on YouTube for awhile now. Thanks for posting Retro!

  • Thanks!!!

  • oh ya. But i was too young to understand that Joey was special. I would have been 7 years old when that one was on tv.

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • OMG!

  • This PSA is more Canadiana than a beaver eating a Jos. Louie

  • YES! Thank you!

  • LOL! Classic! Made lots of jokes from this psa. ...being a kid and cruel and all.

    Awesome!

Gretzky!! (hand shake behind the ear)

  • @r655321 LMAO. Holy shit, where does retro get this stuff?

My friends and I were MERCILESS with this one.

And I mean ABSOLUTELY relentless on poor 'Joey'. Hahahahaha. Today I'd be thrown in jail and they'd toss away the key

    Good times....

  • @bluenotejazz exactly....my older cousin used to call me "gwet-ski!" whenever i was being "retarded", I tormented my little brother with the same taunt. I don't think we got the message they were trying for.

  • So it *wasn't* a ProStars ad....

  • The memory cheats....
