Hi.

Yes they are a wonderful family dog. Once you have a corgi .. it's hard to live without one. They are special.

But they do shed alot unfortunately.

If you get a longhair one, it's worst and more shedding.

You can use furminator to reduce the shedding and it helps ... but they shed a lot.

1 to 10.. maybe an 8 during Summer / Winter and 5 on other months that are not too hot nor cold.

No i dont own the raccoons. They are common in our city and their mother lived in our chimney for over 5 yrs and had over 3 litters there. She would have to come down our fire escape in order to go out to look for food so we'd see her through the kitchen window. She became used to us and had already interacted with humans (very very gentle). We miss her a lot.

yes, I've been reading a lot about caring for the babies as well, and I'll have ample time to care for them in the summer.

i know it's related to when the female is in heat, but are you supposed to mate them while they're in heat, or before, or what? that seems to be the only bit of information that I can't find anywhere...

Hi,

the heat cycle is usually about 14 to 24 days long (this is just approximate time, every breeds are different)

The first 8 to 12 days usually they are not too interested in mating, then the last 6 to 12 days they are usually are in the mating mood. (this is again just an approximate).

Too early will cause the females to be upset and act a little aggressive towards the males. But too late can cause failure in getting pregnant. Just watch the behaviour closely.

Before breeding you need to :

-Make sure that she has great health history and temperament (any type of health condition or behaviour that she or her ancestors have can be transferable. ex: overbite, cleft palate, c-section, aggression, still birth, giardia, etc)

- Regular deworming every 2 weeks (as soon as she is ready to be bred )

- Nutritious food (puppy food is good)

- Up to date with Vaccines ( DHPPC, Rabies, Bordatella, and others that are requires in your area)

A lot of studying while U wait will go a long way ...
