yes the motor moves when i apply 12 volts to it directly. but when i use my normal switch i just hear small clicks. I tried replacing a solenoid with a standard 40amp auto one - it fitted but sparked when i plugged it in.?? I guess i have to place both at once?
@mrbeanandrew2 You need to use the correct relay. There should be no sparks when you plug it in unless you are also holding the switch in the up or down position. With a fully charged battery, like any circuit, if a solenoid just "clicks" it means a faulty or dirty connection somewhere. Carefully examine the electrical connectors in the base of the relay wire harnesss - including underneath for signs of corrosion.
Nice video, inventorr77. I bypassed relays, and my trim motor turns only occasionally and now only if I tap it. The motor has given me fits for so long, I want to replace it. Do I have to pull the entire boat engine to replace the trim motor on a Johnson 90 on a 1987 Skeeter?
To test just the motor, just use the two heavy gauge wires that lead to/from the trim/tilt pump motor. Ground one wire to any metal surface and provide +12 volts from the battery to the other. The motor should run in one direction or the other. Now reverse the wires and the motor should run in the other direction. This will at tell you if the trim/tilt motor is operating. Good luck
Hi great vid . Can you help me or anyone with the problem on my hydr. tilt ? I've added hydr. fluilf to up to the threads on the resv. but no improvement . The motor goes up slow and even slower going down. This video shows me some idea what might be the problem . Corroded wires or relay switch. i haven't check yet but is there any other trouble shooting tips ? Oh last resort , how can I bypass the tilt if I'm stuck with the engine down position?
