id rather hop in a tin box battle the traffic, arrive at my mind numbing job,get paid, give it all to the bank in interest payments.then do it all again the next week.wake up at 60...and realise ive totally wasted the best part of my life. whos the fuckin loser?
@carnut476 Yeah I live about 30mins from these guys. Only mountain around here is Mt Warning (Murwillumbah) which is a volcanic plug. Rainforest type of area. It's a fairly young area which was near impenetrable till the highways came through last century. Plenty of people live away from town, there are small town halls and small communities, but no real separate culture, just hippie remnants who moved here for rainbow festival in the 70s.
I always enjoy visiting this site and takes me back to my youth. I have wrote a new song some might enjoy and sing around the campfires...HILLS OF KENTUCKY_harlan county coal mines.......bout the miners in Appalachian and the fine folks of Harlan Country Kentucky...just click the bluemoongrass link to listen to the new song
To: I hate you more. Sorry if have upset you in any way. There may be a problem with translation. As mentioned the term redneck in Australia is a derogatory term. I love the diversity of the human spirit, love those who choose or find themselves living on the edge. Have just read "Off the Grid", a journey across the USA meeting many who have chosen to give the "man" the flick and live by their wits and ingenuity. I hope your username is not an indicator of your character. Hate is very negative.
Actually the term, redneck, was derived from the coal miner uprisings in West Virginia. Feuds developed between the rich owners and the workers willing to fight for a bigger piece of the pie. The way to tell the two sides apart was the miners side wore red kerchiefs around their necks. Hence the term; redneck....
@rebelfilmsaustralia the term redneck came from those that work on ships.back in the 1500s.because they where in the sun all the time and there necks became red
Know how the name Redneck came into being? Back in the 30's or so, West Virginia mountain people who worked for the coal mines revolted and went on strike because of the low pay, and dangerous working conditions. The Mine owners hired an army of men to put down the strike. The minors all wrapped red rags, or scarfs around their necks to tell their side, from the other side when the shooting started. Several miners were killed, and they lost the battle. Rich man won again.
As an American, I find this fascinating...aside from the difference in accents, these guys are pretty much indistinguishable from American hillbillies.
“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, To put to rout all that was not life and not when I had come to die Discover that I had not lived.” - H D Thoreau
They may be defined as rednecks in the US but out here they fall more into the category of what we call Boguns. Australian rednecks are usually super conservative, racist and fearfull of change.
@rebelfilmsaustralia seems to me your description of them is just as discriminatory as any one who is racist. I can't speak for everyone, but as a mountain man from Western North Carolina I can say that I don't fear change. It is that I disagree with the change that many liberal people think they need to push on the population. Notice that I don't accuse all liberal thinking people of this or group liberals into one group. But I will fight with my fist clenched if anyone thinks they can push me.
@rebelfilmsaustralia Well, change is not always good - and what's wrong with being proud of your race ? and nothing is wrong with being conservative i always try to avoid extremes...
LOL I didn't know that Austrialia had hillbillies... and heck YES they remind me of a lot of the people I saw in Alabama in the countryside. We drive through small towns to get to Florida and it was like that all over the place! lol
At least these guys get to live in the great outdoors every day and don't have to put up with all the s--t pushers in the cities. They have rock concerts in their back garden and got to be on TV for their 5 minutes.
i would share some scooners any time with these good old mates!!!
