do all the work myself on my 1997 saab 900 and now I am going to try to change the ignition switch.., Been down The alternator ,starter, a couple clutch cables and a few serpentine belts. Now i have a SRS warning light on that drains the battery and a has initiated fault code. This began when ignition switch started failing. intermittently dying after start. If any of you SAABFANS ..catch this I could use some advice as the car is a joy to drive -900S 2.3 manual 1997
TheDooshNozzle is right. From 1990 on all 900 Turbos had the Mitsubishi TD05 Turbo, I think even the LPT 900's had this turbo, just no intercooler. I own both a 900 Carlsson and a 900 SPG. My SPG was imported from the US into the UK and then here to Ireland by me. SPG's are quick but not as quick as a Carlsson, not too many people have been able to compare these two cars but I have. My Carlsson has a few extras but it eats 200bhp Golf GTI's, stock Impreza Turbos and even Skylines. No lie!
SPG, Carlsson, T16, 900 Aero, even a standard 900 Turbo... all the same car at heart.. differences are in the sway bars, spring rates, and how much boost the apc box is set for at the factory.. Zero differences in turbos until you get in the 1990 range and newer where they upgraded to a mitsubishi turbo upping the hp.. euro models didnt have cat converters +10 HP.. If the carlsson had a bigger turbo, every saab tuner would want as an upgrade.. It doesnt exist
Im not going to be rude to you as you like saabs and I also think their great. However you need to be corrected. the spg or special performance group saab was the american version of what we call in europe the t16 s. However the spg actualy had a lower power output (160bhp) to the t16s 175, although the very last spgs were 175.
The carlsson was in fact a high performance version of the t16 s. The carlsson had a better turbo, the highly saught after red box apc system + sports exhaust and the airflow skirts to reduce the coeficient of drag to .33cd, and a rear anti roll bar, meaning 185 bhp and a 0-60 of 7.9, rather better than the 8.2 of the spg!
sadly yes, after four 900 turbos thought it was time for change and got a lotus excel instead which isn't nearly as fast as the saab but handles better

In Finland we call spgs as AERO

The SPG probably handles better than both.

I'd be very interested to hear where you got the drag coefficient figure from ?
and what model was the turbo ?
