The supertrain was the class 141 and 181, named that because so reliable. The train in the video is a heap of shit! They didn't last very long and were left 2 shunt in yards. The enterprise and intercity 2200 are the main express trains in the Republic.

The combined power of those 2 class 121's was about 1900hp. A single class 201 deliveres 3200hp. In the USA the class 121 would only be used as a 'Switcher' or 'Shunter' as its called here. We only really got a proper Inter City service with the arrival of the class 201.

@wiltner I think your forgetting the 071s that preceded the 201s. Anyway, I disagree with the thrust of what you are saying. Locomotives while important are not the single factor that influences train speed. What has shortened journey times and increased train speeds has being the re-laying of lines with continuous welded rail and a new signalling system.

Hi - taken at Ballybrophy in Eire. We had just arrived from Limerick via Nenagh. We had to leave the train while it was shunted into the loop platform. The locos then ran round and hauled the train back to Dublin Connolly.
