This commercial was not from 1995. Dick Purtan left WKQI 95.5 in 1996 as the station begin to change the music a little different with more pop songs than before.
@funtyrone I sure do. Q95 (before Q95-5, in the early '90s) was my fave station - all my classmates liked 96.3 but I've never been fond of rap, and everyone in my family primarily listened to country (which at the time I also hated). Of course the Hot AC format was a LOT different then - only now is Hot AC starting to come back around to being true adult-pop rather than just alternative-lite.
95.5 has actually been WKQI since 1989, before that it was WCZY - All Hits Z95.5.
IIRC, this commercial is actually from 1996... I believe it was March of '96 when WKQI started calling itself Detroit's Continuous Hit Music Station even though it was still technically a Hot AC. The only time they actually sounded like a "true" CHR/Top 40 was at night, but it was the closest thing Detroit had to "true" CHR until the legendary WDRQ was relaunched later that same year.
