When I play avatar mode with my friend (who's the same rank as me) we only see rank 10's and 9's. It's very annoying, because we're just rank 3, we just get some ashigarus and like katana samurai. We get XP from the losses too, tough.
Can you replenish Veteran units? Once you get a veteran unit you will probably have around 25 guys in it or maybe 30. Then, the veterancy almost makes up for the loss of soldiers but not by much...
Why don't they use any of the Total War games in the World Cyber Games? Honestly even Shogun 1 is better than a racing game or guitar hero. Why not TW?!?!
At the very least Medieval 2 or Shogun 2 should get on the list. Nevermind Rome or Napoleon TW. After all, the weakest parts of the TW games are the A.I. (and even then its better than most games), which you don't have to deal with in multi player for the most part.
@Merth667 I don't really think that's reasonable. They respond just fine, it's the scale and scope of it. For the TW games the battles are always interesting and I prefer them to RTS games overall where it often comes down to who can maximize their economic advantage as early and often as possible, not necessarily the best tactician. It's more about who has more mechanics second nature. I love SC 2 though too.

Even first person shooters have insane movement capabilities for the players as if they were able to run just as fast sideways as forwards. The thing is that Starcraft multiplayer is way more complex. I do not believe you need to train as much to get good at a game like Total War. It is not physically as demanding (Macro/micro), and I wouldn't go as far to say that it is more tactically demanding. The very short response time means that units have really "tight" controls. You can't say controls are tight in a tw game. Even the cavalry takes time to move.
@YinYangTzu As such, the skill of really controling your units (if you know what I mean) isn't as viable or maybe even important. If you've seen some of the Brood War pro gaming, you'll see that some of the things they can do with their fingers is wow and there is an "awe" factor present just because of that.
Maybe you don't think that's important to have interesting battles, but... What's the point otherwise?You like watching 500 guys smacking each other in a monotonous fashion?
All in all, Starcraft II was built from ground up as an e-sports and it shows. I can't go into great length as to why in a Youtube comment section but if you have Steam pm me and we can discuss this. Google "Starcraft e-sports" and a nice article on it will pop-up. Regards.
@Merth667 I can understand that the visual side of it can perhaps become monotonous. I can also understand the awe factor for which SC pro player mechanics are noted for, ridic amp and such. Because in TW it's easier to master the mechanics, and from then on it's just your sense of tactics and strategy, I'd argue that there is more room for pro players. However, it also would make it more difficult to retain successful players on pro teams who can be easily bested by newer players.

I agree with you that it takes more to master SC 2 than TW games, but I don't know if the mechanical awe factor of pumping out build orders off memory is well rounded enough for me. There definitely is a great achievement in knowing so many diff builds and adapting etc, but for the same reason that it's harder to master, there isn't always necessarily the tactically brilliant player winning but rather the person who has a quicker apm/management micro¯o

@YinYangTzu The game is just more casual than sommething like starcraft, i think the rout mechanic is not refined enough for it to be reliable, also the unit choice at the beggining of games makes it even more random. Another reason that it isn't considered for things like WCG apart from the fact taht it isn't too popular is because it isn't really that mechanically skilled, there is no space for any real multitasking to occur.

Bow Cavalry aren't too strong in Shogun 2, UNLESS you're fighting a bow specialist (+25 range) who knows how to support his units and properly kite. If you haven't invested in Bow Monks or highly upgraded archers with more range, they'll be positively annoying because you can't return fire--excellent against campers. ;)
@bballca03 i just bought a dell xps8300 from dell outlet, i7 2600 (3.4 ghz), radeon hd 5750, 8gb rams for about $700, I have everything on ultra and it totally runs great. This comp would probably be able to run fine on the next couple total war series and definately be able to run The Elder Scroll 5 coming this fall.
@zombiemania1 I believe they have a four pack of Total war games, i look at best buy this weekend and seen it thought i can't remeber off the top of my head whats on it, but i know shogun wouldn't be in it maybe Rome and Napoleon will, but check for it sometime.
@zombiemania1 Depends on how old/new your system is, if you have an older system, get Rome. I have a new system (windows 7x64 with an 8 core i7 proccessor, 4GB ram, and a dedicated gpu (forgot which one). I can't even run Rome because of compatibility issues.

ok at first I thought this was a good game but not amazing but now that I have bigger armies and I am getting comfortable it is crazy how much movement and tactics matter.
@PrinceofMacedon I notice that you seem to gun for the opponent's/protect your own general a lot more in this game then say napoleon total war where you seem to make a habit of killing him JK I was just wondering if there is a heavier impact on global moral in this game a general is deadified.
If you lose your general, you most certainly lost the match. Everyone would get low morale and break. It's important to pay attention to your avatar and keep him alive.
@EgyptPrinceOf If it's an ashigaru army you can say that you've pretty much lost, yes. But with a samurai army, you still have a chance, especially if you've got naginata warrior monks.

@KakashiKyle9 That's because Japanese warfare was much different to European warfare, they didn't make grand cities like in RTW and MTW, the cities were more like rural towns. Forts on the other hand were mountain or cliff top structures that were meant to have enemies climb the walls and be trapped in a kill box, their just trying to make it historical, there's a difference between Eastern and Western warfare, different types of warfare, different gameplay mechanics
@KakashiKyle9 It's because its historically accurate. In feudal Japan there were no walled or heavily defended towns. Castles themselves were compounds with no small community within them. A castle was a castle, with a few variables within each. CA didn't get lazy, they decided to be pretty accurate to the history.

@KakashiKyle9 NP, I myself am more specialized in western history as well. However I find the Sengoku Jidai period and the Three kingdoms period in China to be very interesting, theres a lot people miss out on in asian history which is a shame.
@KakashiKyle9 I don`t know a lot about japanese history, but since sengoku jidai was essentialy a war between clans rather than nations, it`s not like france vs england, the peasants care little what lord do the have to serve, they are all japanese, battles were between feldal lords and their armies, no need to siege a town. Plus their "castle" desing is clearly made to serve has death halls, killing the enemy troops probably was much more important than keeping the fortress.
Good looking game, but for me Total War is all about mass battles and not troops routing the moment you charge them... That's why I love Medieval 2, the fights are longer and you have time to enjoy the battle. :)

@PrinceofMacedon I notice that you seem to gun for the opponent's/protect your own general a lot more in this game then say napoleon total war where you seem to make a habit of killing him JK I was just wondering if there is a heavier impact on global moral in this game a general is deadified.

If you lose your general, you most certainly lost the match. Everyone would get low morale and break. It's important to pay attention to your avatar and keep him alive.

@EgyptPrinceOf If it's an ashigaru army you can say that you've pretty much lost, yes. But with a samurai army, you still have a chance, especially if you've got naginata warrior monks.

@KakashiKyle9 That's because Japanese warfare was much different to European warfare, they didn't make grand cities like in RTW and MTW, the cities were more like rural towns. Forts on the other hand were mountain or cliff top structures that were meant to have enemies climb the walls and be trapped in a kill box, their just trying to make it historical, there's a difference between Eastern and Western warfare, different types of warfare, different gameplay mechanics

@KakashiKyle9 It's because its historically accurate. In feudal Japan there were no walled or heavily defended towns. Castles themselves were compounds with no small community within them. A castle was a castle, with a few variables within each. CA didn't get lazy, they decided to be pretty accurate to the history.

@KakashiKyle9 NP, I myself am more specialized in western history as well. However I find the Sengoku Jidai period and the Three kingdoms period in China to be very interesting, theres a lot people miss out on in asian history which is a shame.

@KakashiKyle9 I don`t know a lot about japanese history, but since sengoku jidai was essentialy a war between clans rather than nations, it`s not like france vs england, the peasants care little what lord do the have to serve, they are all japanese, battles were between feldal lords and their armies, no need to siege a town. Plus their "castle" desing is clearly made to serve has death halls, killing the enemy troops probably was much more important than keeping the fortress.

Good looking game, but for me Total War is all about mass battles and not troops routing the moment you charge them... That's why I love Medieval 2, the fights are longer and you have time to enjoy the battle. :)
