Movie was not new then, so it took 6 years for this movie to reach USA with sub/dub. Unlike Amerocan movies with "happy end", most Russian movies have "Russian Ending",which also could be "life sucks" ending. The war today is against the Talibans, the war back then was against the Afghani nation, to conquer and subdue them. This is exactly the sort of confusion the makers of this movie were aiming for. To justify their attempt to conquer and plunder another nation by likening it with today's war against terror.

I dont know what u are talking about, and u are very wrong. In the USSR there was no prostitution, and nobody chose a relative as a partner... I guess it was even punishable. The war today is against the Talibans, the war back then was against the Afghani nation, to conquer and subdue them. This is exactly the sort of confusion the makers of this movie were aiming for. They wanted to end the war fast and after seeing the result it was agreed these bombs would not be used again, i think if not USA somone else wouldhave dropped one, it's just that they had it first,

1) USSR - Union of Soviet SOCIALIST republics. There is a difference between socialism and communism, u know.
2) USSR tried to turn an underdeveloped country into a developed one. Not to eliminate Islam. Many republics in the USSR were actually islamic.

1) Socialism means that the State owns the mean of production. The economy is centrally planned by the state. USSR was a socialist country. Scandinavian countries are social-democratic, meaning there is a mixed economy (private sector on one hand, public sector on the other), with a great weigh of the state in the economy and high welfare expenditures. China isn't socialist, nor communist, it is a mixed economy (with a big state intervention)

Communism, actually never existed at a large scale. Communism is the superior phase of socialism where the central state disappears, and the workers in the industries and agriculture take their own decisions on the production. As I said it never took place.

I dont know what u are talking about, and u are very wrong. In the USSR there was no prostitution, and nobody chose a relative as a partner... I guess it was even punishable. All the prostitution and that stuff began with the end of the USSR, and the installation of a wild oligarchic capitalism. Which pretty much destroyed Russia in the 90's. But thats another story.
As for religious freedom, it was controlled but u could still practice a religion.

I dont know if that story is true. But believe me I dont have to ask my elders about that. I always had a great family, and actually my grandparents are religious (orthodox). And as I said I don't agree with the lack of religious freedom in the USSR. As long as the religion doesnt influence the state decisions people should be free to believe whatever they want to.
