Without a doubt the BEST line up for KISS. I can't get use to seeing Thayer in ACE's make up and costume. I also think that the second time around was their best work. Although they were my favorite band back in 74-78 I still think they sound and play better here than then. Too bad some of their EGO's got in the way of staying together. TOO BAD as they were great. The newer music from them is not very good.

What's kind of cool about this version is that during the signature hook, Paul is actually playing a harmony part that blends in and sounds great!  It sounds like he's doing another one at 4:55 when they're coming out of the bridge. I'll tell ya', as a guitar player myself for 30+ years, these guys were masters at taking basic, simple, yet catchy kick-ass guitar riffs and spicing them up with various melodies and harmonies in a unique way! Absolutely awesome....

Ace plays the solo flawless. No one, I mean no one can play with his feel. Tommy comes close, but Ace is the inventor of all the KISS solos up until 1980 so he plays them to the "T". I know that Tommy showed Ace some of the solos that Ace didn't remember, but hey if you haven't played songs like 100,000 years for over 20 years you will forget a lot of the lead parts. Ace rules!!

the fun thing is that most of you people don't even know the history of Kiss when you're saying "Ace and Peter rules!", and "Gene and Paul sucks!"... You think that Peter and Ace are the ones who made the group so big and succesful, and that Gene only wanted to get laid all the time, and didn't care about Kiss. The truth is that Gene and Paul were the serious ones, who DID care about Kiss, while Peter and Ace only wanted to get drunk or high.

@busquets28 I think what people are saying is with Ace & Peter, they had the edge. Once they left, that edge went with them. Let's be honest. Do you associate KISS with "Lick it Up" or "Cold Gin? It's almost like Metallica replacing Cliff Burton. In both cases, the guys didnt make the group but were a major part of what they did. After "Dynasty", KISS kinda lost me as a whole. I guess "The Elder" was Pauls prep to play "The Phantom" in "Phantom of the Opera" (Toronto I believe, he KILLED it)

It all comes down to preference & for me, the post Ace/Peter era (which was the largest body of work now) didn't do it for me. I just found that material too popish for me (a handful of songs I did like but the body of work didn't do it for me). I thought Carr was a heck of a drummer & his early death was a shame.

@busquets28 Around 1980-1981, bands like Priest, Maiden, Motorhead & so on got more exposure here in the US (you know this). By '81, I heard "Ace of Spade" and that was it. I never said these weren't KISS songs. I said it just didn't do it for me. When "Asylum" came out, these albums were released- "Hell Awaits", "Ride the Lightning", & "Powerslave" just to name a few (not to mention "Pleasure to Kill" and other underground classics). The game changed & people like me went that route.
