@KerinaLandeepa Not sure about the author, but even in general im still not sure, if there were then they would be in northern Philippines, Luzon, that's where a bunch of chinese influence was. Perhaps ancient Kapampangan dances but the south was lucky to preserve this much, I don't know of any ancient kapampangan dance still preserved, sadly... And I'm kapampangan :( Most dances I know are from the great Maranao people...
All Filipino Folk Dances are stylized for the stage. This rendition is mixed in with balletic movements. It is a good performance nonetheless.
Sagayan is supposed to be trance-like. The warrior goes into a trance as he prepares for battle. The movements are there but I agree it likes the spirit of the village. Something was lost in the translation from village to the stage.
Maybe this will remind people of where this dance come from.
Mukiay diay ang mga laki sa ila War Dance? Kahadlok!!!
The Romans wore skirts and did not wear any underwear... I however doubt if they sway their hips as much as how the dancers did. and please do not be so judgmental about who has class and who has breeding. Some may be more culturally educated than others and just try to say their two cents worth in a more tongue in cheek manner. Hey, some of us do not only look at the aesthetics... We also look at the authenticity and research of the dance.
I find it very tragic that some people lack the class or breeding to even understand and appreciate something beautiful as a cultural dance and for lack of understanding would even dare to comment nonsense like calling this dance too gay...tsk tsk tsk...walang breeding, very tragic...again...for those who have no sense of culture or any level of class should not watch this video.
The Romas wore skirts and no underwaear when they go to war...yup the Roman empire conquered the the ancient world with their bakla legions...those who would comment like these znd deem it as merely harmless banter shows lack of culture and class...These are the kind of people who sould go to watch ballet and would laugh at the men wearing tights...oh brother...tragic

wow...sana nga mapakita pa xa to more children..... so that they can appreciate our culture and not BOOM BOOM POW!......sana din you guys can sell your vids para naman mapakita sa mga skuls.....
I beg to disagree, sagayan is supposed to be a a preparation for war, I dont think muslims would be moving like sissies...i hope those who are behind this group should know the history of the dances
Why shouldn't bayanihan and leyte be sister groups? after all they both love to dance, they both promote the beautiful dances of the Philippines. Am I right?
choreography: 9/10. kaya may bawas dahil sa kumekendeng na dancer. war dance po ito, hello. execution: 10/10. speaks for itself. costume: 1/10. i really dont get which part of philippine culture they got the inspiration from with those costumes. but over-all, this perf is very entertaining. makes me wanna see more. p.s. i think the word bayanihan in the title is some sort of tag para masearch and for others to see. i dont think they intended to pass it off as a bayanihan performance.
uummm... well, it's a balletic interpretation of the Bayanihan or ROFG's Sagayan. The costumes are actually a very close interpretation of those worn on stage for Sagayan down to the headdress, saya, k'long and all. So, in essence the costume was the most "authentic."
Even the bayanihan itself has adapted the Sagayan to fit western aesthetics. To view the real traditional Sagayan, i suppose you'd have to go to the village for that.
love the contemporary (ballet???) interpretation....but the still love watching the authentic style......so grounded and with fierce....mura gyud ug mo sulong sa gyira...
I dont think that this is a Bayanihan!!! Feeling bayanihan? Bayanihan never been Leyte based/// common who did this Bitch thing?LEYTE DANCE THEATRE - WAR DANCE - BAYANIHAN? Make your own title freaks... you will never be Bayanihan!
Yop nice choreography. I personally know the man behind LDT. He's one stern and typical Waray (!) dance master. Discipline is very obvious in Mr Jess de Paz' dancers.
do you have any chinese-influenced dances in the phils?
