Why did I not catch the Feat when they performed at the Rainbow in 77, they were my absolute top band in 73 and 74? Perhaps I had been seduced by the change of direction towards punk via a spell of reggae. Do I listen to either of those genres with the regularity with which I have kept going back to the Feat over all the years since? No, oh well that's my loss as true class clearly is forever.
Im a 24 year old guitar player. I was learning jazz and blues growing up. I got real into the Allman brothers. When I found this version thanks to youtube of little feat; i converted. I saw little feat without knowing who they were at my first concert ever with the doobie bros when I was 16. Man... Im lucky to have discovered this live song and this unbelievable band.
Funk, soul, rock, blues, the nawlins sound. This band has it all and says it all period! How they aren't in the r&r hall of fame is a rock and roll sin! Abba?!! To those who have not seen them live shame on you! To those who say they're not the same since Lowell passed (head bow here) go out & get your ears re-tuned. They are hands down some of the best musicians to ever grace the stage & they are admired by many pros in the business. I have never seen them put on a bad live show or ever will.
Every thing, every comment, thought or posted, about this Band, is so straight from the gut soul, so personal. Pretty sure these Boys owned a part of our Hearts. Feats don't fail me now.
While going to school during the late 70's, it seemed every college student on campus had those white coveralls! On Fridays after all classes were over you could hear lots of Little Feat blaring out the windows of the dorms!
@MrShoeman21 whoa, you are very cool, I was part of that whole 68-85 scence, see underground subwayn raleigh, blog, it will bow you away, gots lot more stories,
I love little feet. My kids know these songs by heart! I just wish I could have seen them live when lowell George was still alive! I love all their songs!
When you compile the all-time rock greats list, Lowell George has to be way, way up that list. Could sing with soul, wrote great songs and played a mean slide guitar. I am so glad I got to see them live a few times before his passing.
@maryanngibby I just put a similar comment up on another Little Feat video, possibly Fat Man in the Bathtub. I just thought they would be jamming, but I like your idea that they would be sharing a space!
I saw Little Feat in 76 in New York what a great show. I now have all there music download so I can listen to. What a band I miss the music on one made their sound. Phish505
It's a crime that LF aren't in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Lowell George was a musical genius and the music world was deprived of some great songwriting.
@1blastman the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is a fraud...there are so many who deserve it and so many who got in --- but, dont deserve it...so, lets all forget the the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame
I just noticed that Jack Black (the actor) Looks Like Lowell!!! Doesn't he??? Hey - he could play him in a movie. He could probably pull it off with his love of rock. Listening to this reminds me of hanging with my friends on a pier on a lazy fun day with nothing to do - biggest problem in the world was the batteries on the tape player dying! Aaaahhhh....
The Feats just played more interesting (IMO) music than the Dead. They were WAAAYYY tighter as a band as well (thanks to Richie). There's a fine line between working the groove and pointless jamming...
@CFMD28 The Grateful Dead did not suck. It was a group filled with creative individuals that helped shape a new type of music. But I'm not going to be a egotistical dick about it and say something that makes me look like an idiot.... but hey, that's what the internet is for.
@culls33 Say what you want. They were average at best, their following was a bunch of people who were stoned most of the time. They could have sang the phonebook and no one at their concerts would have noticed. Comparing The Grateful Dead to Little Feat is like comparing a Yugo to a Maserati. No, actually Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Jorma are great in my opinion. There are better musicians than them too. I'm just saying The Dead were average. Don't get your panties in a twist over it.
@CFMD28 - Quite funny you say that given all the compliments lowell gave jerry and how eager he was to work with the dead. Little Feat was a tighter band, but they explored less and were less prone to playing long sets like the dead. Different flavors of music. Both bands complimented each other perfectly. 5/8/77 from the dead is just as tight as this though. The dead did have some solid moments.... 72, 74, 77-79, 87, 91 etc. The Dead never put no one down, only you.
@420Honey Yes "take a step back, take yet another step back Ya all the people up front are getting horribly smashed" Scarlet>Fire man Scarlet>Fire. I think Lowell died when he was producing The Album Shakedown ST. for the dead.
@CFMD28 Yep. I saw the Dead- many, many times- from the virtual beginning, early '66. They sucked. The stoners thought them tuning up for 45 minutes was "far out". No. Jerry could play, the rest blew. They got a lot better. By the early seventies- American Beauty, Working Man's Dead- they were a very good band. It's a cult thing. Little Feat was upper echelon from day one. I've been a guitarist for 46 years, gigging and teaching. I know bullshit when I hear it. Little Feat was the real deal.
@slownoman - Weir took a while to find himself on stage, thus probably wasnt the best guitar player given he was still in high school? What did your high school band accomplish? Phil Lesh was a fantastic bass player, Billy held the pocket just fine. Pig just wanted to get ripped and sing booze blues but i wouldnt hold that up against the band and say they sucked. So easy to make fun of the old days with the technology we have now, strobe tuners etc. 46 years strumming a guitar is moot..
@420Honey I agree...and Phil Lesh is still a fantastic bass player! He has joined one of my all-time favorites; Levon Helm (The Band) this past year on several occasions and they were great! I was a Dead fan in the day and an even bigger Little Feat fan..both bands were good. There were definitely some good musicians in The Dead just some questionable performances. Slowno said Dead fans were only stoners..Being stoned didn't mean that we couldn't appreciate good music!!

I know that there are a lot of sloppy recordings by the dead but that does not mean they were amateurs. They did however have some substance abuse issues which did lead to some questionable performances. that does not change the fact that they are true artists both instrumentally and lyrically.
I saw Little feet multiple times in the DC area (mostly @ Lisner Auditorium) throughout the early 70's and they remain one of the most talented group of musicians I ever saw. Seemed like every concert had super big names "drop in" like Jackson Brown, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Little Feet, Santana, and Pink Floyd are my musical benchmarks to this day.
I don't get disliking things like this. If you don't like Little Feat, don't listen to their video. You can type Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne into YouTube search just as easily.
Yeah man...I saw them in the spring of 1979 at JMU in Harrisonburg, VA......I was 16....Totally great buzz and totally great show..WOW!! Hooked for life! Then Lowell checked out June 29th of the same year!!!! I think he was only 29.....What a ride he must of had while it lasted!!! Shew!!!! I still go see what's left of them.....

@P0000h Good move! There is little bad up on youtube. Still, I highly recommend getting your hands on Waiting for Columbus and listening to that album, as it is constructed. I think the audio production on that is higher than anything on youtube except for the Rock n' Roll Doctor clip and anything else from that session (it was a TV show, right?) that is up. But the organization of Waiting for Columbus is genius and made it a great "album." All, of course, IMHO.
@nastynate1229 My girlfriend was just in New Jersey. She called me and told me about it. Then I remembered that Little Feat was a band that I'd always meant to get into, I just never got around to it. So I spent the day watching Little Feat on youtube.
@jlambert321 right on brother. saw little feat before they went big at a small college in md. around 75. nobody like lowell. must of seen them 7 or8 times live. where did the great music go?
@TheRollwitit where did the great music go??it's out there,. just seems harder to find,.could i suggest entering "Jay Rakes" on you tube search bar? a va.beach area guitarist ,..
This song and Fat Man In The Bathtub should be required listening in music appreciation. I have a 2 yr old who loves this song. We are turning her on to everything from Dean Martin to The Mills Bros. to Jayz. We will let her figure out what she likes but I'll bet she likes them all.Little Feat rock!!!
Pretty Sure I was there on Purple Haze; and BOY do I Remember, they were backing The Doobie Bros, who came on after and were crap compared to this and Loads of peeps left, ( they must have been on Baad Druggs, cos I like the Doobies also. Sometime after they Played Back-up to The Who at The Valley. Charlton Athletic FC 5-31-76, and They were great despite the Who fans disin' them, turned into riot & I made a run for it.

Anyone who hates Lowell George and Little Feat has no appreciation for music. They have my sympathy.
