I like this group for the sound of their music, not their beliefs. I think

I think religion closes peoples minds to all that life has to offer for the UNKNOWN that is death (of course religious people would think, "BUT I KNOW THE REAL GOD" with conviction). Logically, religions could easily be the natural conclusion for any living thing that can comprehend it's own death... For the sake of reason, I HOPE that some God does exist to explain the reason for making our planet so insignificant.

Why do people say that? There are so many intellectuals who hold religious beliefs, and there are many who don't, it has very little to do with "intellectual openness" (Collins, Ruse, and Gould can agree with that). That idea is old and and sort of died in the 70s. When I was an atheist I sued to think that same thing, but there is really no proof to it. Religion didn't close my mind at all, personal beliefs as such just don't.

Pick up writings by Stephen J. Gould, Francis Collins, and Michael Ruse, two of them were/are atheists who said the idea that religion closes people's mind is as ridiculous as "bible-thumpers." I prefer Collins myself, but Gould's work is probably easier to find. Ruse, man, I can't find hardly anything on him.

I do agree though, there are some people who pop religion as a perpetuation for everything, when it's more of a guiding set, to me at least.

i am an atheist, but i dont see religion as a way of closing off people's minds or creativity. I have many religious friends (not just christians) and they are just as open (or closed for that sake :P) to the world as me, you or anyone else. But I dont like the people who try to preach their religion on me, if i want to believe in a god i will, but theyre not helping by pushing their beliefs onto me.
