@SNESosT Story of Bar Kunckle III is really good for beat em up game i remember seeing it translated to english. Also there is a mid boss on the first stage(driver of the boat) instead of awkwardly looking Shiva there is a character called Ash, who appeared to be gay and maybe thats the reason they banned him from US version. Funny fact is that in a japanese show there's a man called Hard Gay who looks absolutely the same as Ash from streets of rage, search for him its pretty funny show.
@SNESosT My problem with the Japanese version is how easy it is, even on Very Hard it's a cake walk compared to Rage 2. Sequels should be harder than their predecessors.
I'll admit though, US version of Rage 3 on Hard is unfair and loaded with overpowered enemies.
Honestly I've never beaten this game! Maybe I could if I put it on easy haha... I just don't get it... SOR2 is 100x easier, why did they make the 3rd one extremely hard?

@OwlstarrKrew If you are having difficulties beating this game, try BareKnuckle 3, its the Jap version with the original colour pallet, women are less clothed, and there is an extra gay boss.

@Rapist87 SOR3 isnt nearly as bad as you make out...sure SOR2 is the best in the series but dont forget SOR3 did have some minor improvements over SOR2 such as the ability for each character to run and roll, a better system for managing the use of the special attack

Streets of Rage 3 is "slightly" harder than the past series? I can beat the first 2 Streets of Rage on Hard without losing a continue but on Streets of Rage 3, I can only beat the whole game (only up to Stage 5 where the game ends) using up ALL my continues on Easy.
@mmm07 Yeah for sure SOR3 is MUCH harder than the first 2, it's also much shitter. Rage 2 is the best by a mile, but even the original Rage is way better than part three, which should have been cancelled or renamed Streets of Toilet once they realised how crap it was

Blaze in silver/grey (not red) and Axel in Adam's palette colors from the original?!? Also, the censorship... Why mess with it so much?
Also, the soundtrack for this game doesn't come close to Streets of Rage 2 in my opinion...
The only things this game beats it's predecessor on is the 6 button support & a super meter!

Hold up and C when they throw you and you land on your feet. =) Plus you can also play as Shiva who is insanely awesome BTW. There's a cheat code for it. There's also a cheat to do a new special attack which it very effective. So that's the most important things to know.

@WHITEEAGLEns I don't mind the difficulty as much as the censorship and alteration of the story. If you haven't looked them up yet. I suggest you look up everything they changed. There's a list of the stuff they altered.

@WHITEEAGLEns That's true. I actually was part of a Bare Knuckle III ROM hacking project that restores the bike stages and other stuff. The hack was recently cancelled but considerably finished. Shiva also gets some of his Round 7B boss moves as well.

Shiva is the coolest character of bad guys,to bad he cant pick up weapons and his dash attacks doesn't get upgraded,but maybe it will be possible in sor4,i forget to mention,i really really love the picture in bk3 cartridge box,much more than that on sor3.
@WHITEEAGLEns In the latest build Shiva CAN pick up weapons (though it's not fully implemented and probably never will be due to the hack being cancelled.) He and the other characters can also run diagonally by double tapping the D pad in a diagonal direction such as up+right for example. Shiva even has his US electrocution sprite (Hey, not all the things changed in the US version were negative.) Shiva also has his recovery flying kick move implemented. Just press B while he's getting up.

Streets of Rage 1 and 2 were good. 3 was cool to play, but this stuff of robots everywhere is unnecessary, only normal, real bandits were good enough. I mean SOR2 had robots too, but only a few in the end, 3 had too many, looks like a futuristic science fiction movie, that's not cool for a beat'em up styled game.

Not good of a review either. Some rambling about transformers, but no mention of version differences, nothing about plot and level design. No mention of some interesting gameplay aspects. What's about special attacks with weapons? Each char. have different use of different weapon. What's about leveling up system? Or power meter? And what's about Shiva? If you mention Roo, why won't you say anything about him? And you can unlock Roo at start screen. etc.
This game is shit. Don't get me wrong, Bare Knuckle 3 is awesome, but Streets of Rage 3 is purified dumbness of localization. Missing enemies, changed names of enemies and attacks, different designs, decent storyline turned into shit. And difficulty, yes Japanese version is easier, but what Sega of America did? Improved AI, fuck no, they just multiplied damage modifier.
Avoid this abomination. Find Jap. version, BK3 is better without story altogether, than with this bullshit.

I don't agree with those who diss on the soundtrack, at all, I agree that it's not as good as 1 and 2 but I still really fucking like it, I like the whole rave style it has going for it, it's very intense and complements the action filled gameplay perfectly.
I think it's among Yuzo Koshiro's most underrated work, and yes he did do the music for this game, people here who said he was replaced by someone else are mistaken.

I loved the first game, and the second. But now i'll get hate mail as i'm a sort of fanboy of the series but what were they thinking with 3? Difficulty was hard, no adam, story was kind of off with MR X's brain being a villain. To me it felt like a badly fan made game than an official sega release, the music was kind of incosistent and wasn't as easy and iconic as the other two games music. Does no one else think this game let the series down a lot?

Streets of Rage ACTUALLY had my favorite music from all three games, although I loved the music from Streets of Rage 2 and the first game also. Some of the best gameplay though. End was a bit disappointing. Oh yeah, don't get the American port, get the Japanese if you can. Much better.
This game could have been awesome had it not been for the ridiculously hard difficulty. The game creators are a bunch of stupid assholes for making it so hard. The guys you fight in the mid to later levels kill you too fast, the boss fights are just frustrating and simply not fun, and every time I try to play this again I ask myself "why bother?". Games are supposed to be about having fun, not to frustrate the shit out of people. It's too bad the creators didn't seem to think so.
Roo is one of the strongest characters u just dont fit with this genre of games as i can see.

Actually Mark you can also play as Shiva with a code directly after beating him in the game.
If done right you will be able to select him when you come back to the game after losing an continue.
Sadly there does exist one more in the Japanese version named Ash.

@WHITEEAGLEns That's true. I actually was part of a Bare Knuckle III ROM hacking project that restores the bike stages and other stuff. The hack was recently cancelled but considerably finished. Shiva also gets some of his Round 7B boss moves as well.

Shiva is the coolest character of bad guys,to bad he cant pick up weapons and his dash attacks doesn't get upgraded,but maybe it will be possible in sor4,i forget to mention,i really really love the picture in bk3 cartridge box,much more than that on sor3.

@WHITEEAGLEns In the latest build Shiva CAN pick up weapons (though it's not fully implemented and probably never will be due to the hack being cancelled.) He and the other characters can also run diagonally by double tapping the D pad in a diagonal direction such as up+right for example. Shiva even has his US electrocution sprite (Hey, not all the things changed in the US version were negative.) Shiva also has his recovery flying kick move implemented. Just press B while he's getting up.

Streets of Rage 1 and 2 were good. 3 was cool to play, but this stuff of robots everywhere is unnecessary, only normal, real bandits were good enough. I mean SOR2 had robots too, but only a few in the end, 3 had too many, looks like a futuristic science fiction movie, that's not cool for a beat'em up styled game.

Not good of a review either. Some rambling about transformers, but no mention of version differences, nothing about plot and level design. No mention of some interesting gameplay aspects. What's about special attacks with weapons? Each char. have different use of different weapon. What's about leveling up system? Or power meter? And what's about Shiva? If you mention Roo, why won't you say anything about him? And you can unlock Roo at start screen. etc.

This game is shit. Don't get me wrong, Bare Knuckle 3 is awesome, but Streets of Rage 3 is purified dumbness of localization. Missing enemies, changed names of enemies and attacks, different designs, decent storyline turned into shit. And difficulty, yes Japanese version is easier, but what Sega of America did? Improved AI, fuck no, they just multiplied damage modifier.
Avoid this abomination. Find Jap. version, BK3 is better without story altogether, than with this bullshit.

I love how he says "Streets of rage 3 is slightly harder than 1 and 2" When it's actually impossible. Streets of rage 1 and 2 on HARDEST mode is EASIER than Streets of rage 3 on EASY. mostly because you cannot beat the game on easy because the games basicly tells you your a coward and you need to grow up and play on a harder setting. which is INSANE!!

It is time for Streets of Rage 4 to come to the PS3. Side scrolling beat em up games were great! There would be a huge demand for this type of game right now. There aren't anymore beat em up games like this.

I don't agree with those who diss on the soundtrack, at all, I agree that it's not as good as 1 and 2 but I still really fucking like it, I like the whole rave style it has going for it, it's very intense and complements the action filled gameplay perfectly.
I think it's among Yuzo Koshiro's most underrated work, and yes he did do the music for this game, people here who said he was replaced by someone else are mistaken.

I loved the first game, and the second. But now i'll get hate mail as i'm a sort of fanboy of the series but what were they thinking with 3? Difficulty was hard, no adam, story was kind of off with MR X's brain being a villain. To me it felt like a badly fan made game than an official sega release, the music was kind of incosistent and wasn't as easy and iconic as the other two games music. Does no one else think this game let the series down a lot?

Streets of Rage ACTUALLY had my favorite music from all three games, although I loved the music from Streets of Rage 2 and the first game also. Some of the best gameplay though. End was a bit disappointing. Oh yeah, don't get the American port, get the Japanese if you can. Much better.

This game could have been awesome had it not been for the ridiculously hard difficulty. The game creators are a bunch of stupid assholes for making it so hard. The guys you fight in the mid to later levels kill you too fast, the boss fights are just frustrating and simply not fun, and every time I try to play this again I ask myself "why bother?". Games are supposed to be about having fun, not to frustrate the shit out of people. It's too bad the creators didn't seem to think so.
