how do i know how to set my metronome. for instance the one on my iphone gives me from 1/4 to 12/4 and from 3/8 to 12/8 and the speed goes up to 240. i have no clue what to set it at or how to practice with it and thats probably why i have no rhythm
@watchman001 Your iphone is overly complicated for what you want- it's trying to be a drummer. With the 'nome I'm using, a click is just a click. In 2/4, or 4/4, you have to decide if you're going to count ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR, or ONE-two-THREE-four, or ONE-two-three-four. 3/4, 6/8, etc are 3-beat divisions. ONE-two-three. Then set the click to match those accents at whatever speed you need to practice. Watch the video again where I'm counting with the clicks and see if you can get it.
Any tips on how to tap your foot with the boom-chick rhythm? I'm use to tapping my foot in a strict even pendulum fashion 1&2&3&4&. Toe down on the floor on the 1234 and the toe up on the &'s. I'm finding this method is not working for me on faster bluegrass tunes, because I'm wearing myself out trying to keep up. :) Thanks!
I tap just like the metronome is doing- I tap on the bass note (the boom) and in line with the bass player. I do that even when I'm playing mandolin (and playing in-between foot taps). You're right- you can't double-tap in BG.
It sounds like I need to keep my foot in a rested position on the floor until after I play the down strum of the chick. My strict pendulum foot movement had the chick in the up position and felt very awkward against the down strum. Keeping the foot rested on the chick would cut my foot tapping in half, once I get use to it. Does your DVD's go into greater detail for us who are rhythmically challenged and how far off is the Gospel DVD? :) Thanks!
Actually, I was not able to tap my foot until I got the rhythm internalized and then it came automatically. In other words, I tap my foot to the music instead of playing music to the foot tap. Best advice I can offer is to sing with the 'nome.
