@Luke92TM I'd guess so. They have regenerative abilities to regrow lost limbs and such so it should apply to gills too

hi there great vid thumb up for that and the cute axolotl.. i have 2 and i just got them 3 weeks ago the guy at the pet store said they are still young but i can not tell what sex they are. i tried looking up info but i still don't know if you could please check my video maybe you will know!what there are i would appreciate it i would luv it if i have a male and female thanks for your time :)

How old are they? If they are under one year old they tend to fight with each other even if they are the oppsite sex. It is important to keep a close eye on them because they might bite at the gills and this can really harm the axolotl. Axolotls will grow back both the gills and their limbs and tail but if they keep fighting you should get a tank divider. Usually when they get older they will stop fighting (unless there are two males sometimes they will still fight)

please reply. i recently bought a new axolotl. i put them in the same tank. they are the same size.i watched for awhile and one of them kept biting the others tail. im not sure if there a boy or a girl their both around 6 inches. i have read that some stores sell tiger salamander larvae under the name of 'axolotl'.ones is black and one is blackish/charcoal grey. i am concerned about this. i have not heard of this before,

I used to have these little things. They are so sweet and gentle. I used to hand feed mine with earthworms. I sometimes would pick them up and hold them for maybe a minute and they never tried to get away.

yes this is too small an axolotl can grow 35cm long ;) i have 1 in a 60cm x 38cm x 38cm tank but im getting another soon i hope but when they get larger because mine are juviniles i will be buying a 4ft tank hopefully :) then i can house a 3rd

I'm pretty sure you can. You just might want to be careful. I've read that if put together when they're young they tend to eat one another. I'd be careful when they were older. I think I'd keep them seperated so they wouldn't hurt one another.

acutally its the opposite when theyre older they are fine but when young they will bite each other toes and gills but i wouldnt worry about the toes because they will regenerate

They are a lil hard to care for. Everyday I go through and hand feed them. Then clean out any food that they didnt eat and clean out their Waste (Poo & pee..)and I also like to give them a stomach massage because it helps their food pass through. But dont do it too hard.

you shouldnt do that. they cant be touched much at all- gives them stress and dries out their skin. im sure they can digest their food just fine lol. everything but the massaging is very good, and i love that you care for them enough to do that =] how do you clean out their pee though?

LOL, I know that they can digest their food fine but one of my axolotls had an indegistion problem at one stage and made her sick so I got the Vets advice after they had a look at her and they said to carefully rub her sides (massage) her to help get it through and she still has problems if I dont do it.

Also, when I said Clean out their waste I did not mean their urine LOL although I did write it in the brackets so I apologize for that

wow! im surprised a vet had experience with amphibians! especially axies. well, if it aint broke, dont fix it i guess lol. how doest she act when you do that? for some animals i suppose it would be relaxing, but i would think it would put stres on a sal. and one last thing: do you wet your hands or use gloves when you do it?

Yeh I was pretty amazed that the local vet knew so much about them but I guess thats her job. When I first started massaging her she was a little scared but once she got to know me it made her a better axi because she was not so shy and became quite friendly. I dont usually use gloves when I do it because I do it gently so it doesn't dry out her skin. My hand is wet when I do it because I do it in the tank,it has helped the other axolotls in the tank 2 cos now they chase my hands and go 2sleep.

you can buy them from most pet shops from around 20-40 dollars. and they can live anywhere between 12-15 years sometimes even up to 25.
