Pete's spiritual/creative turmoil really comes to a fine point on songs like this--This one still makes me feel that old feeling--standing on high looking down.
Oh man! I have not heard this song in decades and it all came back to me in a flash. The memories, people, places and things. In high school, driving my 1968 Camaro. Wow, it's been that long. Damn! This band was one of the best ever, yet didn't get the commercial play like other bands did. Back then on FM and not the AM dial. Oh man, can I please go back in time?
I was just a pup when I heard this song the first time. Celebrating after the installation of my good friend's 8 track quadrophonic car sound system. It's like a prayer to him. Thanks for making it available.
I still get the chills everytime I hear this song. The words, the music, all of it is genius just as The Who are. No one can out do them in my opinion. There is something about them that sets them apart from all of the rest. While The Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles are great bands, The Who is the greatest. They never quite got the recognition that those bands did and still do. I feel its a disservice to a remarkable band
im 16 and listen to all that music from the '60s. it's true when people say there's nothing like it and there's never going to be anything like it again. compared to the music back then, the crap they have now is a joke.
@spyderkat Their appearance in the Super Bowl halftime show early this year no doubt contributed to that. Gotta keep the memory alive somehow. Rock on, Pete and Roger!
@ejdbk fuck number 5 but truley with you for the rest, psychedelic rock is the best, well the whos only awsome song is naked eye, but ye check out a band called hawkwind, you must know silver machine by them but check out "hurry on sundown" its an old hippie song with harmonica, perfect for sundowns or rises
I was so comatose during this period of my life, yet I still catch myself singing the lyrics every time my wife of 30 years and myself get into an argument. Hearing it again after so many years makes me want to enjoy a nice bowl. Hard to find Odds and Sods
this has always been one of my favorite who songs.. i had a mixed tape i put in my car the first time i drove.. this and going mobile was on it.. get myself a car feel power as i fly o now im really in control
Wasn't sure which song I should post this comment to, but this one is as good as any. One of my favorite (approximate) quotes by Pete: " I'm a guy who started his writing carreer with a song called 'I Can't Explain' and spent the rest of his carreer trying to."
Funny, I always like the first version of any song I hear. I heard this one 30 years ago and the "original" verson a couple of minutes ago. No comparison. Same is true of "Mercedes Benz", "Carolina in my Mind", "Brown Eyed Girl", all of which I first heard by people other than the big stars. "Everybody Took a Holiday" by Klaatu doesn't sound too good on the original album, but is great on Sunset.
i've always said the odds n sods version is superior. tells a whole different story.... awesome bassline, stellar range of vocals, and of course pete's magic, thanks for sharing seeker
They( the Who) always played this song live (an instrumental part at the live at Leeds My Generation version)and said that they could not make "a proper studioversion". I think this is one of the best Who songs ever. Every instrument in balance and beautiful sung by Roger (and Pete) Thanks for posting a great (unknown) song from the best rock band ever THE WHO
holy crap this is sick! the live versions are incredible but this is right up there,
are you guys gonna watch the vh1 rock honors tomorrow? it should be good if they give the who the respect they deserve for being the greatest band ever
DUDE! I've never heard the studio version before! It's very interesting to finally hear this, as the live versions are some of my favorite live Who performances ever.
Always loved the way Pete's voice cracks during the verse that he sings. Plus, he's got the cool Who tagline "Na Na No!"
