  • Always loved the way Pete's voice cracks during the verse that he sings. Plus, he's got the cool Who tagline "Na Na No!"

  • Pete's spiritual/creative turmoil really comes to a fine point on songs like this--This one still makes me feel that old feeling--standing on high looking down.

  • Nobody and I mean nobody writes songs like this today. Pete is a genius

  • Oh man! I have not heard this song in decades and it all came back to me in a flash. The memories, people, places and things. In high school, driving my 1968 Camaro. Wow, it's been that long. Damn! This band was one of the best ever, yet didn't get the commercial play like other bands did. Back then on FM and not the AM dial. Oh man, can I please go back in time?

  • I was just a pup when I heard this song the first time. Celebrating after the installation of my good friend's 8 track quadrophonic car sound system. It's like a prayer to him. Thanks for making it available.

  • I love how the Who can release an album that is essentially a collection of outtakes and it's still an f'n masterpeice.

  • I disturb people all the time with my naked eye, they just can't get used to public nudity

    weird people

  • it all looks fine TO THE NAKED EYE! omgosh i love tht part

  • you can cover up your guts, but when you cover up your nuts, your admitting that there must be something wrong...

  • This a very, very overlooked and underrated Who song.

  • I still get the chills everytime I hear this song. The words, the music, all of it is genius just as The Who are. No one can out do them in my opinion. There is something about them that sets them apart from all of the rest. While The Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles are great bands, The Who is the greatest. They never quite got the recognition that those bands did and still do. I feel its a disservice to a remarkable band

  • @joanne3623 like what you gotta say

  • im 16 and listen to all that music from the '60s. it's true when people say there's nothing like it and there's never going to be anything like it again. compared to the music back then, the crap they have now is a joke.

  • my favorite bands in order is 1. Led zeppelin. 2. Doors. 3. The Who. 4. Beatles. 5.Pink Floyd

  • @1974LEDZEPPELIN A fine list. If it were mine, I would add Yes and Rush to it.

  • @1974LEDZEPPELIN you forgot jimi and the stones, but a great list it is indeed!

  • this the best version of this great song..

  • I have 14 year old middle school students in my class who wear the THE WHO tee-shirts. The Who are coming back. Pete is god.

  • @spyderkat

    Lol....Pete. GOD-send ;-)

  • @spyderkat Their appearance in the Super Bowl halftime show early this year no doubt contributed to that. Gotta keep the memory alive somehow. Rock on, Pete and Roger!

  • Epic :D

  • this is my favourite song of all time

  • ok i think i don't have to say anything to the song. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

what i have to say is i love that picture. it's different, it's sort of special.. they look like four young gods. each in his own way. wow..

  • my favorite bands are

    1- the who

    2- pink floyd

    3- led zeppelin

    4-the jimi hendrix experience

    5-aerosmith/the beatles

  • @ejdbk fuck number 5 but truley with you for the rest, psychedelic rock is the best, well the whos only awsome song is naked eye, but ye check out a band called hawkwind, you must know silver machine by them but check out "hurry on sundown" its an old hippie song with harmonica, perfect for sundowns or rises

  • One of the best songs ever. Thanks guys, love ya.

  • IMO, music never dates, it just may or may not happen to follow certain trends.

  • i really think that this version is not the best one.isle of wiegts and woddsstock versions are the best ones

  • Some kind of truth to be found here, ladies and gentlemen.

  • You can cover up your guts but when you cover up your nuts!! that part is cool for some reason

  • @Leadhead444 Well its actually referring to your "Nuts" which is why the next line goes "You're admitting that there must be something wrong"

  • Yeah....that's why i said it's cool...........i knew what it meant! lol but it was so original for it's time!

  • first time ive ever heard this song...sounds fucking great!

  • @broadwayjoe412 dude..if u like this song, check out some of the live versions..they rock hard

  • @alsaxe the live version from isle of wight is bad ass, pure and easy! thanks man!

  • thanks for posting..I've been a who fan for 32 years..I still remember this song on 8 track!!!!! it still sounds fresh!

  • Get myself a car....

  • I'm getting shivers. Stunning piece of work. Thanks Who!

  • i´m 15. and i like the who sooo much ♥

  • Im still looking at it with a naked eye.......don't happen that way at allllllllll.

  • The who is great, I love his music

  • Nice Song!

  • one of my favorite who tunes.. it was on my first driving cassette when i got my first car many many moons (no pun intended) ago

  • définitivement une grande chanson des who!!! entre 67 et 73 townshend est un génie!!! purely!!!!!

  • I was so comatose during this period of my life, yet I still catch myself singing the lyrics every time my wife of 30 years and myself get into an argument. Hearing it again after so many years makes me want to enjoy a nice bowl. Hard to find Odds and Sods

  • this has always been one of my favorite who songs.. i had a mixed tape i put in my car the first time i drove.. this and going mobile was on it.. get myself a car feel power as i fly o now im really in control

  • Great one

  • Wasn't sure which song I should post this comment to, but this one is as good as any. One of my favorite (approximate) quotes by Pete: " I'm a guy who started his writing carreer with a song called 'I Can't Explain' and spent the rest of his carreer trying to."

  • Gotta be my favorite guitar solo by Pete.

  • Comment removed

  • "You can cover up your guts but when you cover up your nuts,

You're admitting that there must be something wrong"

Best Who song ever. The lyrics are amazing and true and the instrumental at the end makes me feel like God.

  • I love that line. The Who really rocked!

  • fuckin' ripping

  • these guys put they're back into their living !!!!!

  • i dont mean to stir up shit but i prefer this song live. LONG LIVE THE WHO!

  • Yeah, the best fucking band ever. When they nail this song live it's beyond description

  • My favorite Who song ... then Someones Coming is def 2nd

  • my favourite tune ever

  • geat song...the best f--king band in the world....

  • I've never heard the this original version. I've always known the live version and the one off of the Who's Next re-issue

  • Yes, off the Odds and Sods of 73

  • wait is this version the original?

either way it is a righteous song.

    Best band ever?..................THE WHO!!!!!

  • WHAT a FUCKING TUNEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • i love this song!

  • this is my favourite who tune ,its a bloody masterpiece!

  • I am 43 years old. I hate to be an old fogerty, but there is nothing like this at all.

  • You don't have to be old to love The Who. They're timeless.

    Truly nothing like this.

  • @Gothic1982 you are so right..i totally agree with u..i am only 20 but i think The Who are the best and there is noone like them

  • @Gothic1982 yeah, im 14 and I love the who

  • @Gothic1982 im 15 hate all the new music favorite bands r n this oder 1. floyd 2. zeppelin 3. the who 4. the doors

  • @HinVds well spoken

  • This, in my opinion, is the greatest song ever written. It cannot be touched.

  • never has been, never will be

  • what is this song about!!!!!

  • life.

  • Nice, I think the best live version of "Naked Eye" is at Wight Festival 1970

  • yeah that version kicks ass, i like it the most.

  • Does anyone know the little riff at 4:19?

  • Funny, I always like the first version of any song I hear. I heard this one 30 years ago and the "original" verson a couple of minutes ago. No comparison. Same is true of "Mercedes Benz", "Carolina in my Mind", "Brown Eyed Girl", all of which I first heard by people other than the big stars. "Everybody Took a Holiday" by Klaatu doesn't sound too good on the original album, but is great on Sunset.

  • You can cover up your guts but when you cover up your nuts,

You're admitting that there must be something wrong

    best line ever lol

  • i second that

  • i always liked when pt sings "press any button" and his voice goes a bit cos' he's right into it and going like fuck...

  • Haha yeah i love that part!

  • wow, the WHO never ceases to amaze me.

  • "The stars are all connected to the brain" beautiful lyric

  • Why the hell was this song NOT on any major album released by 'The Who'? I know it was on Odds and Sods, but c'mon...

  • it's on the newer Who's Next

  • I love the lyrics, especially "Not pawns in any game/not tools of bigger men/there's only one who can really move us all."

  • A girl I know has Odds and Sods on vinyl, I should steal that from her.

It's great to finally hear this song. I love it live on Who's Next, but Roger cuts out the last few lines.

  • steal it!

  • i've always said the odds n sods version is superior. tells a whole different story.... awesome bassline, stellar range of vocals, and of course pete's magic, thanks for sharing seeker

  • They( the Who) always played this song live (an instrumental part at the live at Leeds My Generation version)and said that they could not make "a proper studioversion". I think this is one of the best Who songs ever. Every instrument in balance and beautiful sung by Roger (and Pete) Thanks for posting a great (unknown) song from the best rock band ever THE WHO

  • My favourite song by The Who.

  • one of the best who songs but the most underrated.

  • holy crap this is sick! the live versions are incredible but this is right up there,

are you guys gonna watch the vh1 rock honors tomorrow? it should be good if they give the who the respect they deserve for being the greatest band ever

  • DUDE! I've never heard the studio version before! It's very interesting to finally hear this, as the live versions are some of my favorite live Who performances ever.

  • Pete just lays out the jam at the end of the song..He's going off!!!

  • the foundation of music 2day is in your ears as u listen 2 this tune, this song is the fucking shit man !!!!

  • Amazing song!

  • Thank you for psoting this.

It's nice that there's an original version among all the live 1s for this song!

    I haven't heard this in 4ever...

    Rock On!

  • Oh, but for young poets and philosophers of another era!

  • Really nice!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • thanks!
