  • Does anyone else remember part of this song from that one ad for JungleBook: Mowgli's Story?

  • "Shag, The Movie" was filmed in Myrtle Beach. This song was played while they danced at the Hickory House. If not before (LOL) the movie immortalized "Monkey Time"

  • This is Myrtle Beach "Shag" Music!! Love it!!

  • One of the best songs ever. Right up there with This old Heart of Mine by the Isley Brothers. You just cant sit still when you hear it. I remember hearing it at The Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach in the 60's. Great Beach Music!!!

  • 1 person has a monkey up their butthole.

  • @Xav224 I would like to congratulate the 1 person who disliked this song......by SHAKING THEIR THROAT!

  • Why do Mexicans get MAD if someone mentions the MONKEY TIME?

a Its a song that they've heard a million and one times ..and they are sick of it

b They think you re talking about the old tv show with the four crrazy white guys ..that their parents wouldnt let them watch

c They think you're referring to the old prson ritual where a mexicans hangs from his bunk like a monkey and gets gang banged ....he misses it

  • @teehonky PHUCK THE BEANERS !

  • Major Lance...The best in his time, still is. I will always enjoy ......RIP major

  • I have loved this song from the first time I heard it in Shag the movie.

  • this gets the juice flowing

  • this is the shit

  • hhs swing marching band playing this, awsome song!

  • OOOH YEA...... THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF!

  • raydogg here. 1964 was a good time for me.

  • I actually heard this song in a Disney movie. I always thought it sounded awesome. I always liked old music from the 60's especially the beatles

  • THIS was good stuff and represents alot of what I heard on radio station KRLA/AM in Los Angeles in 1963 @ the age of 16. Other songs like Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" and "I'll Be Doggone" were similar and of the same beat. Just wonderful wonderful music of a time now gone but NEVER forgotten.

  • You can't imagine the togetherness, the love, & unity in the neighborhoods in Chicago back in those days.

I was a little child & I still can feel it. They hung out at ricky Allen's favorite spot on 22nd street. They all would come by Curtis, to Otis Clay. We were together at this time. Major & Curtis tapped into a vein at that time hit after hit.

  • Great song .. written by Curtis Mayfield who wrote a lot of great songs for Major.

  • I never heared this song. Thnks for posting. Nice song.

  • If this ain't on the jukebox in Heaven, I ain't stayin....

  • Gotta dig the drummer!

  • I haven't heard this song in years, since like the late 1980s when radio stations play oldies music. To the young people: music of today can't hold a candle to old school music because back then, music was music and still is music!

  • My sister Emma Lue Mcwhorter love to dance to this. Emma R.I.P.

  • Chicago Soul!

  • @therealraybaby Amen to that!

  • "you get yours!!"

That's pure Curtis on the background vocal

  • @fosbury68 A local group here in Pittsburgh, PA, Johnny Angel and the Halos, do a KILLER cover of this great song!

  • Fabulous! check out Al Kooper"s version also,if you can find it...love this song...fun fun fun

  • Excellent song!!! I remember this song well, even though I was only about 5 when it came out, lol!! RIP Major Lance; another Great entertainer gone too soon..year of death: 1994, at age 55.

  • Love this song! Thanks for posting

  • Cool to hear this again! Did anyone know that Marshall (I'm wanting to say his last name was Thompkins) of the Chi-Lites was playing the drum kit on this song? I thought that was a cool bit of info...from the man himself!! I loved the Chi-Lites as a young girl and got to meet and talk to them many times... they were true and talented gentlemen.

  • I didn't think I'd find this! Cool!

  • Thanks for posting this - so great! Always grateful I grew up in this time. Didn't know Curtis Mayfield wrote this, though not a real suprise. That guy is amazing.

  • @Drdougwestla

I didn't know he wrote it either but you know, it sounds like it would come from his mind!

  • Didn't know that Curtis Mayfield wrote this..can't just sit when you hear this..got to "move your feet & get on the beat"....

  • Great Song--you just have to get up and dance when its playing.

  • Curtis Mayfield was still in high school when he wrote this. You can hear him on guitar and vocals.

    DC
