  • This is TOO cool!

    Love IT!!!!!!!!!!

    What a force of nature.

  • Marioooooooooooo :D Sei troppo un grande

  • It takes a moment to familiarize oneself with the idea that this is “Otello”, but he sounds terrific.

    Thank you.

  • Mario forever!!!

  • This... is... amazing...

  • awsome, no other word awesome

  • holy crap, he's not holding back at all, is he?

  • I'm familiar with the recording of the song by Nelson Eddy, but this performance by Del Monaco is great, and funny in Italian; somewhat reminiscent of the so-called "spaghetti westerns." Thanks for posting.

  • @meltzerboy

Wow! Could have done a great RAWHIDE! Rollin' Rollin' Rollin', Keep movin', movin', movin', though they're disapprovin',

    Keep them doggies movin', RAWHIDE!

    Cheers, etc.

  • Yeep-ye-i-oh! Incredible Mario indeed. I hope this was pressed on red vinyl. Loved it. Thanks Nate, Thanks VinylToVideo, treasure digger extraordinaire!

  • Wow! This is really great. I would have thought that his cowboy music would have ended with Dick Johnson, one of his great roles. This is really a great voice having fun, Bravo!!!

  • é sempre tenore in qualsiasi genere che affronti. veramente GRANDE

  • Awesome

  • Incredibile mario... una canzone certamente fantastica

  • Ratings disabled, too bad. This is a SUPERB find!

  • WOW!!!

  • Excellent! What a voice!

  • Yes I agree and I remember going to a Tucker recital where he sang a western song he favored on occasion, the hangman ! it had some great low notes in it for him I still remember that.

  • This is VERY GOOD: not a "Golden Throats" moment, but truly a good recording of this song, which shows respect for the material, just like Richard Tucker's "Songs of Love and Inspiration" album. Works well in Italian for Del Monaco, too!!! Thank you for sharing this with us; was it released commercially, perhaps as a 45 rpm single????

  • I was lucky and old enough to hear him in house in his greatest role Otello! I will not forget it . Perfect role for his trumpet like voice.

  • Had to listen to this more than once to believe! Never thought I'd hear him singing this, or any opera singer, for that matter. Also, I didn't realize this song was that famous.

  • His recorded LP of english songs with tonight from west side story and montavanni is interesting also. Great Dramatic tenor, a real dramatic tenor not a spinto passing as a dramatic.

  • Good for you Mario! We love and respect you even more after this stunner! Bravo!

  • @paulostroff99

Thanks for sharing This classic and exciting performance.. MDM gets into the spirit of the American Old West.without sounding like an opera singer pretending to be a pop artist. Bravo Mario and VinylToVideo for posting.

    Regards-John

  • Ha ha wow. Never thought I'd hear him singing this. Slightly different from the Gene Autrey recording I'm used to.... ;-)

I loved it. Not typically a big MDM fan but that was epic. =P Compliments to the arrangement and orchestra too. A little corny maybe but it's a corny song, in a good way!

    Thanks

  • Of all the songs I thought I'd never hear him sing... He's a legend!

  • VTV--yes indeed into the playlist. The photo itself is worthy. I have heard his Johnson from the mid-50's in Florence--rip snorting!

  • Bravo MDM. MDM rules. The man is at least a minor god.

  • MaestroJosephShore-He now has my undying and total respect. I even rate him over you on this one-given the language handicap. That being said-there is only one VM to sing this definitively.

  • I totally agree VM cannot be beaten. I was stunned with the beauty of VM's voice when I first heard it.

  • MaestroJosephShore-Of all the voices that I have ever heard sing-his was the most distinctively pleasant ones. He was up there with the best of the singing heroes of my pre teen years.
