Ah...the glory days of the side-scrolling beat 'em up. Where they released so many, but only about 5% of them were actually good. Kind of like shooters today.
@mark771977 Not only that, the grenade sprite, if I'm not mistaken, is the exact same one from The Punisher
@drexegar Maybe the developers loved Capcom? Since their previous game, Legend, was pretty much a Knights of the Round knock-off. The only difference is that (at least for me) Iron Commando is way better than Legend
@AgentHorst I agree, the music is fantastic, especially the one from the first level
This game is not bad IMHO. I'd even say it's very good - it just doesn't play like your typical brawler (say Final Fight or SOR 2). You need different tactics when defeating different enemies and as for cheap hits - yes, it's annoying but there is a way to avoid them at most times - just keep moving and don't stand in one spot.
I agree - this game looks and feels A LOT like Punisher - the first minutes I played it I thought it was a Capcom game :P
This game was made by the same two French guys who made Legend for SNES. The problem with both games is that it looks like they were pretty much thrown together with the least effort possible. Not only do they just rip off the beat-em-up genre without adding anything new, but they actually cut corners and lack a lot of the basic things that other games have, like running attacks and variety in enemies. Also, both games use the exact same sound effects - another sign of the developers' laziness.
@achilleselbow I'm glad you mentioned this because the sound effects for example sounded suspiciously familiar. This one feels even worse than Legend.
I think this game is pretty good. First, I really LOVE the music, there's nothing better out there in a beat 'em all! Also, this game is very fast-paced, you can't just walk over to an enemy and beat the crap out of him, you always have to move and sometimes have to let an enemy go.. Finally a game that's not so easy, Final Fight 2 wasn't so hard for example.
Dude play this game and you sware to god, I think this was punshier for the snes, maybe capcom didnt like the port, so they scrap the idea and who ever got there hands on the engine came up with this. The riduculous fly kicks are there. the gernade special when you jump. Pick and throw character just like in punisher. Look at the enemies in this video! WTF? Exactly the same stance as the enemies in punisher! No NO NO! There has to be some answer here! This is more than just a similarity.
Thanks yeah When I first saw this video I found the ROM and I was like this looks nice then I played it God I have never been so wrong in my life and I hate that BGM.
not bad....but of course they are better beat´em ups

Anyone notice how much this looks and plays like The Punisher arcade game? Wonder why Capcom didn't notice. . .

d&c was an arcade game with more memory you dim idiot.
Ganbareg 3 years ago
Pointing out that it has less memory doesn't change the fact that it ISN'T Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.
Nor does making the comparison make me a "dim idiot" its the same genre.
Everyone go out and MAME C&D and then smell your fingers afterward, thats the smell of greatness.
UndeadWario 3 years ago 3
@UndeadWario I actualy prefer capcom's Aliens vs Predator to C&D.

It's as close as you can get to The Punisher on the Super NES. The only thing missing is the blood and Frank Castle!

I don't know why Capcom released that on Genesis only. The SNES version would have been better.

That scene where the truck hit was begging for a, "Toasty!" Otherwise, a solid-looking game.
