  • I did the Keys of the Kingdom tour back in '07 and part of the tour is going into a section of the Utiladors. The reason they don't allow under 16 yrs-old to take the tour is because it will ruin the magic for the kids. You are actually "backstage" when you do this tour. We did get to see the "landing area for Tink and there are no Tinker Bills.

  • I work in the IT department at a local municipality, and we got to take a tour of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida as part of the "Business Behind the Magic" conference. It was loads of fun exploring Disney's REAL best-kept secret! I would most definitely do it again and again.

  • a lot of the rides are underground

  • I would love to be the cameraman for this show

  • 4:10 IS WHEN YOU FIND OUT

  • I've never seen the tunnels look so clean!

  • hahaha!!!!! I agreee! You can you imagine if they showed ALL of the tunnels! LOL! I wish they would have shown the Mouseteria

  • WHAT ABOUT DISNEYLAND! I know they have them at WDW but what about DL????

  • @LEGOMaster56 No, The Cast Members walk through the park to get to their jobs at DL. Walt didn't like that. That's why they were added into the WDW Magic Kingdom.

  • fact its true rlly it is

  • tony baxtor.. you never go wrong

  • I was told at a very young age that Disneyland would be used as a fall out shelter in the event of nuclear attack. I am from Anaheim and thats what the adults were saying at the time.

  • @dougletv this is at the walt disney world in orlando, not the park in anaheim

  • My parents used to work at Disney World and they told me all about the underground tunnels.

  • @Brad8099 I saw the tunnels You can doing a Behind The Magic Tour takes 7 hours You see three parks What did your folks do there?

  • Does anyone know what this means I saw a sign on the wall on splash mountain right before you come up to the wall that says its a Zip-Do-De-Do-Da- Day. the sign said ''Restricted Area contact engineering at 8855 to obtain clearance or something like that so how do i contact them does anyone know what happens when you dial that number?

  • @ManicGamers34 Lol, are you a Cast Member? If so, you can't dial that number because you don't have the means to do so. It's an internal number. And they won't grant you access even if you are a CM, because you probably aren't a maintenance/support CM.

  • @UCFLauren oh well my dad is applying soon to become a industrial engineer

  • I think iy is funny how it almost takes 3 minutes in this 5 minute video to say yes there are tunnels.

  • its interesting that this video didnt show anything of the utilidors that you cant see on the Keys to the Kingdom tour

  • So next time i go to disney i just have to sneak in to that room :D

  • I've heard that you must be 18 in order to participate in the Keys to the Kingdom tour- is this true?! As a fifteen-year-old want-to-be-Imagineer... well, I understand... Still. :) Oh well, I love these behind-the-scenes tours to no end!

  • @WishesSetFree yes its true

  • @WishesSetFree No, you only need to be 16.

  • thats actually so cool its understandable cause the whole on/off screen apperance is so important

  • ahhh memories! I've walked those halls and even ate at that cafeteria... walking by wardrobe however.... pretty traumatizing even for me who was 18 at the time!

  • The funny thing is, this video tells you almost nothing. I walked these tunnels for five years, and it's amazing how much they left out. The door backstage the guy walked through actually leads directly through a Cast smoking area, which I'm sure Disney wouldn't want you to see...

  • he should be in the godfather

  • lol this guy has such an italian accent

  • Haha. This video cracks me up! The Tunnels aren't all that mysterious or exciting...

  • For those in a hurry, click here -> 3:03 to jump to the 'tunnels.'

  • there're definitely tunnels under there. Walt Disney created the tunnels so that the workers can walk underneath. that's why you barely see any of the workers walking aound (except for the people who entertain).

  • There is obviously underneath tunnels

    For the electronics

  • WOW Thanks Disney, that was interesting and insightfull!!!

  • well said RumsGone lol

  • i actually had to use the tunnels for my orchestra to access a hydrolic lift stage

but the entrance is way behind shrubbery and is almost impossible to spot and you absolutly wont get in the gate without an imagineers permission

  • 1:57 I have that book. :D

  • Where did you get it???

  • It was a Christmas gift. :v

  • not to sound mean but he sounds like the bat from anastasia

  • does this come on television or something?

  • As I was a Cast Member in WDW, I really LOLed at this =P

  • why? tell me :D

  • theres ALOT more.

theres restaurants (club 303) for the really really rich people. amd rooms for people to sleep. my mom works there.

    .:KORE.ALTR.HAR1.BAKE.WOK:.

  • Saw this the Travel Channel. My wife and I took the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour. I was a little worried that the park would lose some of the magic, but I was just soo curious.

As it turns out, I now have a greater respect for the pre-planning it took to lay out the park. It was a very interesting tour and I learned a lot of great stuff about the park. It was fantastic, I would highly recommend it to the older crowd. Do not take the kids!!

  • How fascinating.

Walt Disney had planned to live in the Sleeping Beauty Castle but it had never worked out. So, him and his family would occasionally stay in the apartment above the Main Street Fire House.

There is a lamp on the table, which you can see in the window when walking by the fire house. It is said that Walt Disney would turn on the light when he was at the park to let the cast members know that he was home and to be on their best behavior. Sometimes the light turns on nowadays.

  • the light is always on nowadays :)

  • The apartment above the fire station is in Disneyland in Ca

  • 4:53 - back in the day that's the path to get your paycheck, every Thursday, heh!

  • i used to work at walt disney world and there are tunnels under magic kingdom so the cast members can get to and from work without being seen

  • if you take the keys to the kingdom tour...you get to go under there

  • ive been to the tunnel at 3:22 i know exactly where he is

  • i went behind the scenes for both disneyland and disneyworld (both school purposes) it was pretty amazing

  • At 3:18 he refers to them as "employees"... Only time I can think of that slip up happening with Disney.

  • I believe this has to do with him putting terms such as "Cast Members" into laymen's terms...

  • in walt disney's own hotel room its on main street like right above the fire house or something....and back when he was a live if the light was on it would mean hes home and if it was off he wasnt...and now the light is always on because that's hwere Walt's spirit is. or so i have heard. :D

  • Walt died 2 months after the park opened...so poor guy did'nt get to stay there much. I always heard the family stayed in the Castle..and I the light was on they were there...now I hear that was never true. I like your story better. :D

  • I have an original commemorative brochure from 1971 and it says in there that the land for Magic Kingdom was "built up by as much as 14ft in many areas of the theme park". I think this is particularly obvious when you arrive by ferry and have to walk up quite an embankment to get to the entrance turnstiles.

  • they do tours underground but u have to be 18 or older

  • @pandapenguin232 No, 16 or older. I know, because I work at Magic Kingdom. Ask for Keys to Kingdom tour at City Hall.

  • there's a whole ocean of oil under our feet and no one can get it except for me!

  • i dont see why everyone is so intrigued with the tunnels. I was a cast member in the Magic Kingdom for a year, and i LOATHED those stupid tunnels.

  • they seem like they'd be creepy to walk through

  • @GINARRY4LIFE Actually, not really. They are very nice and well lit with plenty of activity.

  • @GoneSoYoung83 I agree -- they really are nothing special. Never did understand the big draw...

  • But to just see the fireworks at night and be part of the "Magic" must just be awesome and I think that, that would be an awesome job.

  • I watched a special on travel channel that said it was 14 feet above ground. But this video said 15. Which one is right?

  • It says about 15 feet. In something like this, the difference between 14 and 15 is very small, so one person may round down while the other person rounds up. They're both right, they just are being specific to the inch.

  • Thanks for the clarification! =)

  • @moofroxmisox It depends -- some parts (Castle and Fantasyland) are nearly 20 feet above the utiladors, some parts near main street are only 14 feet.

  • lol so good

  • cool.

  • i love how he starts out in new orleans square at the court of angels and he ends up at the MK.. LOL

  • I RECOGNISE one of the cast members in the sped up footage of the people walking through the tunnels ROFL! I worked with her for 8 months and I bet you she still works there! Hi Agnes!! xD

  • a cast member once told me that she loves to work on the pirates of the carribean ride because it is connected to all the other rides. She said she could walk through one door and be in indian jones and go through another and be in another ride. She told me like 5 but i forgot so ya theres just a fun fact for you!

  • AAHHH i used one of those utilidors

i worked on Main Street unfortunately not on stage

  • lol awesome

  • We cannot hear you while walking in the tunnels. I work in Tomorrowand at Stitch's Great Escape, TTA, and Astro Orbitor. I assure you the tunnels are and interesting part of my day...

  • OMG you work in the Magic Kingdom?!?! That must be an awesome job!!!

  • Can the people below hear all the bustle above? :p

  • i wouldn't be suprised. not sure though.

  • @Ariannabby No, not really.

  • i love disneyland and its so cool to like know these little secrets and stuff :)

  • @BlueEyedCaliGirl51 ikr i went my first time last year and im going again thins year in like 2 weeks and now i keep searching stuff about it xD

  • I read about the Utilidors in The Kingdom Keepers. But really, that's so cool! Is that the same at Disneyland since Walt noticed that had happened? Are there Utilidors at Disneyland?

  • There are no utilidors at Disneyland. A few small tunnels for delivery purposes and an underground kitchen in New Orleans Square.

  • there IS however a tunnel at DL which leads from the back of Innoventions to the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant, and to Pixie Hollow.

  • i wanna know where they operate the fireworks in the castle :D

  • they dont do it on the castle because its made of plastic, the sparks would melt it. they do the fireworks behind the back of the park (as far as i know anyway!!)

  • On the contrary. The castle is made of concrete, but all the buildings surrounding the fireworks are watered down so they don't catch fire. The smaller fireworks ARE next to the castle, but the bigger stuff is 1/2 mile behind it.

  • On the contrary. The castle is NOT made of concrete is is made of a plaster type molded to look like stone. The fireworks come directly from the back top of the castle.

  • With all due respect, I work there, I know where the fireworks are set off and what the castle is made of (you can look it up - it's stone).

  • headmouse is right. i worked in the magic kingdom for years and was a vip tour guide. the castle is made from a thick plaster mold. one of the running jokes was to ask a guest how many bricks made up the castle, the answer is none. if you look at pictures of the construction, it is obvious that it was not build using cement. they built a metal frame, and put the plaster around the frame. cement was only used at the base of the structure.

  • With all due respect my father painted that castle for 20 years. I think I know what's it's made of and the location of the fireworks a top of it.

Anyone can walk by and knock on the castle and see it's NOT stone.

  • From Wikipedia

"Cinderella Castle appears to be made of white and grey stone with royal blue roofs on their turrets; the tops of several towers and two of the tallest spires are made with real gold and gold leaf. Despite appearances, no bricks were used in its construction; the inner structure is constructed of six-hundred tons of steel braced frame construction, and a ten inch thick reinforced concrete wall encircles the structure to the full height of the outermost "stone" walls."

  • I stand corrected. My apologies. I did look it up, but I misread the information due to exhaustion after a long shift.

Regardless of what it is made of or where the fireworks are launched from, it is quite a spectacle.

  • a) the castle is not made of plastic

    b) you're right, the fireworks are shot from about 50 yards behind the park. with some shot from the rooftops surrounding the castle, "in berm" as they call it.

  • And some from the top of the castle.

  • cooooooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been down in the utilidors on the backstage tour, it was pretty interesting and did not spoil the magic for me. fortunrately I did not see an half dressed characters which would have surely spoiled the magic ...

  • the whole tunnel doesn't smell bad just parts of it

  • the tunnel smells

  • I have always wanted to know about the tunnel system as I am too young to take the Kingdom to the Keys Tour.

  • As a UK adult tourist I still adore & marvel in the 'magic', although if I really think about it I am fully aware what is 'really' going on. When there however, I choose not to,too much,so I can enjoy the atmosphere, theatre & show. Watching this video does not spoil it, & quite importantly, the Keys to the Kingdom tour is open to anyone over 18 & gives quite a lot more away than this short video. Remember, irrespective of videos &tours, If you dream a dream, it really can come true!(Sorry!).

  • I appreciate your comment very much. I'm glad you can still enjoy the magic while you're there. Keep on dreaming! :-)

  • Thanks alot! No matter how old you are, you can always enjoy the magic if ut's in your heart.

  • Documentary programs reveal this kind of thing all the time. Oh, and don't get all elitist, plenty of us call them the utilidoors, it's just an alternate term. This coming from a cast member that uses them on a daily basis.

  • The utilidors are not open to guests, therefore magic is not being revealed so no harm in thiss being online and for the recors, i work at wdw.

  • Nice video.

  • i don't know what it is, but it's not philly cause i'm from philly.

  • SO COOL!

  • Thats cool :]
