By my calculations, I estimate you will need to make at least 1700 25 minute videos before you get to the far lands assuming you travel constantly without stopping, and at your current rate of video uploads it will take you at least 9 years in total. That's a lot of money that would be raised for charity!

Also, if you don't happen to have some building blocks, you can use sand for the main pole and sandstone above. You can make it 4x4, put a bed and a torch, and you'll be fine. This was a tip in a training map (something with Super Hostile).

Yay! I caught up! First off, I'd like to say I'm an introvert like you IRL, (Though I'm more outgoing than I used to be.)  And second, I have some advice for you. Rather than wasting iron, you could keep a stash of cobblestone and make stone pickaxes. It would save a lot on iron, which is useful for getting ores (among other uses). Sure it would run out more quickly, but it would be better for your expedition since you don't usually mine other than for hidey-holes. Up to you. =P

Kurt, the elevated "hidey holes" are a good idea, but you should probably totally surround your initial block. If the spider had come at you from the side with the crafting bench, it could have climbed right up.

You didn't mention SETI@home, where you donate your spare computing power to analysing the radio data (which works out a lot cheaper and more effective than using supercomputers) as part of a distributed computing project, which can be a great way to get involved/help out. Also, we may not intentionally be sending out that many radio transmissions 'too' aliens but we've been doing it for centuries whether we like it or not ;)
