A phenomenal take of this great song, made famous by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers- and superb clever Cole Porter-esque lyrics by Dorothy Fields, back when almost no women had a chance to get into that aspect of show biz. Lady Day: a good as there's ever been, or will be.
@Dorianen - As noted, this is from the movie 'Swing Time' with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, where Astaire's character is engaged to another woman, so he is hot and cold with Rogers..pulled from one moment being in love with her and another apprehensive and guilty due to his promises/duties 'back home' (although there is more to it than that..watch the movie, it is great!).
So Rogers sings this because she can't figure him out and is frustrated (she doesn't know his dilemma, to her it's just them) thus 'A fine romance, with no kisses, a fine romance, my friend this is...we should be like a couple of hot tomatoes, but you are as cold as yesterdays mashed patatoes'
fantastic i love Billy HOLIDAYS music and Bunny Bunny Berigans Horn playing. he could hit the low and high notes. on his Horn that no one else could. great to see thanks for posting Tom
Ahhhhh . . . I love this. Billie at her very best, most swingingest. I love the way she sings around, not on, the beat. She sounds like she enjoys singing the lyrics. Thanks for posting this.

This is so brilliant! It is so good, i don't know if I'm lucky, or about to cry.
I have always loved 50's and 60's rock and doo woop. But this, WOW!

Do u think it is a love song about the love of 2 too old persons ? Or just an impossible love between 2 old persons, not because of age ?

She was born in 1915...so, in this record Billie had just 21 years old.
I like her very much, but I miss here the great Artie Shaw.
