@PeteS528 Go to CheaperThanDirt Website to order the scope mounting kit.. Its comes with the scope rail and replacement bolt (Fits all M91/30) You will have to take your rifle to your local Gunsmith and let them tap the mounting holes.. You can also purchase the composite (black) stock to replace the traditional wooden stock. Those are all universal as well.. Just use the existing stock rings and pins.
@Perogi360 Many sniper modifications of infantry bolt action rifles have that limitation. The M1903A4 and Kar98k scoped rifles are other examples. There's a sharpshooter variation of the Kar98k (the model of the scope escapes me at the moment) which mounts to the side of the rear sight and does no obstruct the charger clip guides.
@DrakeGmbH not really a design flaw though when you're a sniper...you take a shot and move so as not to get tagged yourself. Great rifle you have there, a PU sniper rig is at the top of my list for next buy.
@wolfie83 Many of the WWI and WWII era sharpshooter/sniper rifles block the use of stripper clips by placing the scope over the action. There's not an easy way around it without using an offset mount which poses sighting problems as the scope isn't in line with the bore or using a long eye relief scope like the German Zf-41 scope.
@Direwolf13PS3 I can't say I've ever seen a No4 MkI T that didn't completely block the charger guides. The scope is mounted directly above the action in line with the bore. The sniper modifications of the Garand - the M1C and M1D - use offset scopes, though. From what I understand that's the primary reason why they were issued with cheek pads.
@csmybuttt im gonna guess and say he meant to say m1 garand, but even if he did say m14 garand he wouldn't be necessarily wrong, the m14 is just a modified m1 garand...
@csmybuttt Look at the PTRS-41 next to a SKS. One has a metal frame, the other has a wooden frame. They don't look a thing alike except for the magazine. Now look at the m1 Garand next to a m14. They both feature an alike wooden frame, except for barrel. They both feature a very similar internal and external frame, (no idea for the word, main part of gun...) I agree with you that he should learn his guns, but you just gave a bad example.
@Radomid The furniture of a firearm is not its defining feature. You can swap out a wooden stock of a mini-14 with a synthetic one, and it would still be a mini-14. What makes a firearm a firearm is the inner mechanism, including locking lugs, receiver, and gas system. This is where the SKS draws inspiration from the PTRS-41, so my example is still applicable.
@stealthyairsoft996 M91/30 sniper rifles need bent bolts, they had bent bolts in WW2 as well. There's scope mounts you can get for M91/30, M44, or M38 that replaces the rear sight, so you can still use the straight bolt with smaller scopes on that set up. For WW2 era sniper rifles, or cloned sniper rifles of that era, they'll have bent bolts just like the one in the vid. My 1942 Mosin Sniper clone with replica PU scope has a bent bolt identical to DrakeGmbH's here.
@10nickles You CAN mount a scope, but you would either have to buy a bent bolt kit and scope mounting system, or replace the rear leaf sight with a pistol scope. The cheapest way to do this would be to tap out the rear sight, buy 3/8 scope rings, and a long eye relief scope. Overall this would cost a minimum of about $50. However the other option would cost about $80, with the need of a modification to your stock. I'm going with the scout sniper option (Pistol scope) myself.
@dtdethrow It depends on the rifle. On the M1903 Springfield for example, you can turn the magazine cutoff to the 'OFF' position, load the magazine to five rounds, then load a round into the chamber and close the bolt. You then switch the cutoff to the 'ON' position and you have six rounds ready. With the Mosin-Nagant, you cannot close the bolt on a full five round magazine, so the maximum capacity is 5.
Random trivia= some countries are STILL issuing the Mosin-Nagant as their primary sniper rifle. Some of the actions date back to the early 1900s. They've been rebuilt countless times, but they still work.
@RaderizDorret yupp. i've been told by a couple marine friends of mine that they were briefed on the 91/30 before deployment because troops are encountering resistance from snipers using them.
ive shot the MN once, and i think it feels a bit softer than the kick of the k98, but thats just my personal impression- i also didnt have the chance to shoot both guns the same day.
I just recently purchased my own 91/30 mosin nagant, and i figure that i want to start putting it to the test in the next hunting season but before i do that i need a scope and mount. Do you recommend any website that sells original or replica MN rifle scopes? I would like to get a recommendation from a pro.
a guy who sells Mosins at a local gunshow sold me a beaten non refurbished for 125 including all the accessories. at the next couple of shows, i brought all my friends who wanted a mosin to buy from him. he asked me:
"What are ya, starting a club or something???!!!!"
XD
He later thanked my father for me bringing him customers, in truth though, he had much better deals than others at the show
@MUCKTROPOLUS If you can handle a rifle with a liiiitttttllllee punch to it you'll fall in love before the first clip is empty. I still prefer Nagants and Mausers to modern bolt actions. You know the old saying "Don't make 'em like they used to"? Yeh... haha
in my opinion this is the best gun ever it is very accurate and fun to shoot, the thing about the price is that you can buy one really cheap in semi bad condition and if you know what your doing you can clean on the gun powder stains and stuff off
@codysworld141 most of them really arent, seeing as they were issued en masse, then sold when the governments who had them had no use for them anymore.
Other then the hard to engage safety on this gun it has to be one of my favorite riffles I own except i have the slightly shorter basic infantry mosin i think the one in the video is the longer one.
I paid a little under $100 for the rifle - before I added the scope mount, scope, Huber trigger and modified the bolt body. Darn good target rifle now.
I left it to a gunsmith. It requires a drill press and requires you to get the holes perfectly perpendicular to the bore - or you'll never get the scope sighted in.
@DrakeGmbH Sounds like a pain, Easier just to get an original sniper with the scope already mounted. Where do you thing the best pace to look for an original m91/30 pu ? gunshows? cause i havent seen them in gunshops
@nationalmatch1 Typically I shoot this rifle with sandbags. The bag obscured too much of the rifle from this camera angle so I shot unsupported for the video. The Mosin-Nagant sling is no M1907 but I have shot with it wrapped across my left arm to help stabilize the rifle.
@BlaCK1Venom Pretty far off the mark there. The designers were Russian and Belgian.
The Trelina Vintovka 1891 (Three-Line Rifle) was developed by a Special Commission which used features from Col. Sergei Mosin's submitted rifle and from Léon Nagant's rifle. The rifle was adopted in 1891 - long before both world wars.
It is also known as the Vintovka Mosina and Mosin-Nagant.
wrong rifle for what? Hunting? A little to much historic value to risk thrashing it on a hunting trip... but other wise, they hit what you point them at if you are discrediting their accuracy...
It was a reply to john91722's "back and to the left", he's referring to the JFK assassination, but the rifle that was used by Lee Harvey was a Italian Carcano rifle, not a Mosin Nagant.
i own one Mosin-Nagant and i'm in the canadian army i have used many guns but this one rifle i canadian fix i got it for my birth day and i'm useing it to go white tail deer hunting but its bolt won't stay in locked poseison any tips
Is it a Ross? There are two ways to assemble Ross bolts. One way, the bolt stays shut, one way, doesn't. Look up a detailed correct assembly video on here. Good luck.
Hi, DrakeGmbH. I already own two mosin nagants and would just like to know if the 3.5x power on this PU scope would significantly help me at 200 yd ranges? Your help is much appreciated, thank you.
'Significantly' is a hard word to quantify. It's better than iron sights for longer ranges as the target will appear larger and the sight will obscure less of it helping you ensure you get the same point of aim each time - but the German 3-post reticle is not exactly precise.
It's a Soviet PU scope, 3.5x magnification with three-post reticle. Prices vary quite a bit and there are a lot of repros on the market. I have one in a mount for the SVT-40 as well.
A nice feature of both the Mosin-Nagant and Tokarev mounts is they allow you to use the iron sights without obstruction.
The varying prices trouble me. I'm guessing there are good scopes, and bad ones as well then. What I plan to do is use it for hunting. Keeping the classic look is a plus, but if it just isn't good enough, then I'll have to get something else.
The prices will vary mainly due to the seller. Kalinka Optics sells a quality PU scope made in the same Novosibirsk factory that produced the wartime models.
There are also repros such a the models produced by Accumounts. They look similar externally but the reticle remains centered while the knobs are adjusted. This makes zeroing easier than the original PU.
The original scope's elevation knob is marked off in hundreds of meters which acts as a bullet drop compensator and allows the user to quickly adjust for the proper distance.
On the original design the scope is zeroed by adjusting the mount rather than the scope - two screws on the base for elevation and a contact pad on the scope mount which is ground or shimmed to adjust for windage.
The receiver must be drilled and tapped to install the scope base and the stock must be inlet to fit around the mount base. A bit more in-depth than the scout mounts which replace the rear sight.
I was more interested in an authentic example of a wartime PU sniper rifle. For hunting you may be better served by a more modern scope and perhaps a different mount. I do highly recommend having the bolt handle turned down - it gives you a great deal more leverage to unlock the action.
i hate the ugly bolt lever on the mosin sniper rifle

Is it a Ross? There are two ways to assemble Ross bolts. One way, the bolt stays shut, one way, doesn't. Look up a detailed correct assembly video on here. Good luck.

thanks i fixed it

No problem. I hate that design. I guess you can get seriously injured if it unlocks when fired.
Glad to help.

man the pu scope is really appealing to me after not for a while..
i may go find another mosin to put a pu on.

Hi, DrakeGmbH. I already own two mosin nagants and would just like to know if the 3.5x power on this PU scope would significantly help me at 200 yd ranges? Your help is much appreciated, thank you.
nikonater37 2 years ago
'Significantly' is a hard word to quantify. It's better than iron sights for longer ranges as the target will appear larger and the sight will obscure less of it helping you ensure you get the same point of aim each time - but the German 3-post reticle is not exactly precise.

Alright, how much was that scope, and what's the magnification?
spetznaz1337 2 years ago
It's a Soviet PU scope, 3.5x magnification with three-post reticle. Prices vary quite a bit and there are a lot of repros on the market. I have one in a mount for the SVT-40 as well.
A nice feature of both the Mosin-Nagant and Tokarev mounts is they allow you to use the iron sights without obstruction.

The varying prices trouble me. I'm guessing there are good scopes, and bad ones as well then. What I plan to do is use it for hunting. Keeping the classic look is a plus, but if it just isn't good enough, then I'll have to get something else.
spetznaz1337 2 years ago
The prices will vary mainly due to the seller. Kalinka Optics sells a quality PU scope made in the same Novosibirsk factory that produced the wartime models.
There are also repros such a the models produced by Accumounts. They look similar externally but the reticle remains centered while the knobs are adjusted. This makes zeroing easier than the original PU.
DrakeGmbH 2 years ago
