I had a Black Retriever-English Springer Spaniel mix dog for over 16 years, and towards the end of his life, he lost his hearing ability. I taught him hand signals so he would sit, follow, stop, stay. Of course, eventually he also lost his eyesight, and I carried him out to take care of his business and get fresh air most of the time. He still is, in spirit, my great Buddy.
