  • This was cool - thanks for the in depth talk through ... really cool thing is that painters used to use the same technique for blending colors that you used for the smooth surface finish - 45 degree opposite direction finish passes.

What is the material and what foam would you recommend for larger scale projects?

  • Can't argue the end product looks good, and I've never cut any kind of Ren material, but you're using excessively long tooling, and driving slower than my grandma. I cut tools for the aluminum castings industry and we cut alot of 6061 aluminum billet and our fair share of 4140 steel. When the machine is going to hit in the back we use a longer holder not a longer tool, and for such a simple shape I can't imagine this taking much longer than 2 hrs, cutting aluminum maybe as much as 5 in steel.

  • Thanks for watching.

This is an example of something we do frequently. It is a prototype mold for foam chair cushion. It is a quick and inexpensive way to get pre-production parts from real materials to prove out a design.

  • Well, that a complicated piece... I don't think that a lot of industry use to do that kind of stuff regularly.

And it's not the best set-up.

  • comment from a 21 year old industry expert apparently.

  • ...

For the set-up: This kind of set-up, if not make carefully, you got a bit more vibration...

It not the best, but it's not bad.
