  • this was the game of the year 2010.

  • You know that stereotype joke we've all heard that all North Americans think all Japanese wear kimonos casually? In Japan, the joke is that all North Americans speak like rednecks

  • Um...I don't think this is the way you market something to America.

...I bet a Japanese businessman though this was a great idea, though.

  • Thank you Anime News Network for bringing me here.

  • Every time I hear her talk I want to rip off my ears.

  • God damnit I hate her accent.

  • @loony109

    i fucking agree completely

  • at first i thought new naroto but i was really off badly

  • ..... it's a good game, but I wish that there were more battles

  • Thank god for Japanese and subtitles, although the English voice isn't quite that annoying in the actual game.

  • "Soccer Wars"?

  • did she say it would be for ps2 i guess they didnt forget about it

  • You want your weeaboo horsecrap Japanese dub tracks? Import, lazy freeloaders.

  • Oh, it's Ulrika's voice from Mana Khemia 2. : O Ahem, putting that aside the intro isn't impressing me too much but I might as well check out a few videos of the gameplay...

  • ...myeah...Las Vegas would be the city that never sleeps, if I'm not mistaken. And good lord, that voice is lame. Thank you, PS2 for having the Japanese voices.

  • BANG!!! To the rooftops!

    It's showtime!!!

  • There ARE versions of the game in Japanese...if you get the PS2 version. There are two discs, one with English voices and the second with Japanese.

  • is it in english?

  • I'm sorry but the fist line alone made me grit my teeth in agony, but I'll look into it if it's worthwhile.

  • Don't knock it till ya try it, folks!

Oh, and about the voice acting... Shut up!

  • The people who made this commercial are obviously Japanese people that are under the impression that commercializing using a weird voice of a ten year old girl with an accent is a good thing.

It works in Japan, it won't have much of an effect here.

  • bull game sucks

  • Where can I find the NTSC ( US ) ISO of this game?

  • did she honestly say "dive into our apple pie"? XD

  • Yep. This game is different and it's not afraid to get in your face about that XD

  • could someone please shoot this retarded texas cowgirl down?

    thank you

  • Could someone please listen to the voice acting in the actual game before judging her voice?

    thank you

  • @roymaster45 What you say is true. The Voice in game is better than Voice in this trailer.

  • @roymaster45

She is actually pretty darn good. I got used to her in Mana Khemia 2, it seems like she is a NISA voice actress regular now.

  • i know what u mean it the english voice is retarded i just play it the japanese voice an i wonder if the other sakura war game are coming out on the U.S.A too n i hope so

  • Lol what does anything in this game have to do with new York? I honestly dont know

  • Did anyone else breathe a massive sigh of relief when they played the game, and her voice turned out to be nowhere near as bad as this.

  • @micanna I haven't even seen the trailer 'til today, and I've had the game for a few days now. Comparing the two, game Gemini is an obvious improvement, but the trailer wasn't as bad as people claim to believe.

  • I kind like the Music lol , but the dub is not that bad , play Dragoon ball ohhhh thats Bad XD

  • Oh yeah guys, let's go play!!!

  • Yeah...its voices...pretty sure games didn't exist to be about voice overs. As long as the play is good who gives a fuck. FPS=n00bzorz. Wish this was for the ps3 though, had to get special ed for ps2. STOP MAKING PS2 GAMES! (when i worked at game stop the only people still buying them was the poor ass niggers and spics coming in to buy 3 dollar games such as open season for their kids.)

  • @lawlawlowned fu ck you

  • This trailer left me absolutely speechless (and not in a good way). Japanese VOs it is then.

  • everyone makes a big deal bout the voice who gives a fuck i love english voice on any material

  • @troywhite19 then stick it with the english games, not the original japanese games

    thank you

  • Thank god I ordered the pack with the Japanese VA.

  • are they for real?

  • @Gamefreak9001 go play your fucking shooter motherfucker

  • What's the matter, can't handle in-your-face games that aren't shooters?

  • @Gamefreak9001 dude,thats for wii

  • I love the voice it's hillarius

  • You ever heard the phrases "made in Japan" or "culture differences"?

  • Right, so that answers my question as for which system to get it for. PS2.

...because, honestly, Im not loving the english voice overs.

  • Okay, that IS pretty terrible. :-(

  • Well looks like I'm not gonna be taking it off the jap voice...

  • Does anyone know who is playing the english cv for gemini sunrise...

I think I just about fell in love with this voice when i first heard it...

  • anyone knows who is the voice behind this pv? it sounds so familiar

i hope this game has the option to keep the JP voice like some other NIS releases

  • They're releasing a Premium version for PS2 (and yet not for Wii, for some (probably) stupid reason) that has JP and ENG voice-overs, a free copy of the art book, and (I think) a free poster.

  • I really hope that dual English & Japanese voice isn't lying...

  • The Ps2 Version has Japanese voice but the Wii version doesn't. The had to package a separate disc for the Japanese language because of the amount of room the voice acting takes up.

  • My personal question is, what reason do they have for making a Premium version for PS2 and not for Wii? (Besides "the original was on PS2")

  • Quoted Maverick007:

But I think their outlook on the Wii version is different due to the perceived "casual" demographic of players who own the Wii. Probably Idea Factory/NIS America were thinking that it would generate more sales if the price were lower for the Wii version as oppose to having the Japanese Voice-Overs, so they took out the Japanese Voice-Over version which would have added an extra disc to the overall package (as well as bumped the royalty fees to Nintendo) and lowered the cost.

  • Simple answer is it would cost to much on the Wii.

  • Well, I guess that makes some sense... but this really doesn't seem like a "casual" game at all.

  • Al principio me llamó la atención este juego, pero ya que vi el trailer perdí el interés.

  • its a hundred years in the future and we have all kind of flying robots and shit, japanese anime style

yet people still talk like southern hillbillies?

  • @250mav Ya, in the future dialects wont exist anymore. Because they're not a naturally occurring thing.

  • Actually, it's about 80 years in the PAST (1929) in an alternate universe.

  • It's the 1920's.

  • Just gonna that annoying ass Cowboy voice really turns me off on buying this game.

  • I listened to a clip from the actual game - it's not THIS bad, trust me.

  • This looks pretty cool :)

    Think I'll give it a shot ^^

  • The graphics still look like the DC?!?! .. O__0

  • Well, the original game was from 2005, so that might explain things. And what the hell is "the DC"?

  • @roymaster45

Not much of a Sakura Taisen fan I guess huh?

DC = Dreamcast, and the graphics look like they did in Sakura 3/4, on the DC.

  • Not really, but I think I might be after I play this one :)

And since this was Sakura V in Japan, I wouldn't expect the graphics to have changed a whole lot from 3 or 4 (after all, the original Japanese version of this was out in 2005).

  • @roymaster45

You're kinda missing my point. I meant that the WII version still has pretty much the same graphics as the DC Sakuras, which is just dumb. They should improve the graphics for Wii.

  • Personally, I think that you shouldn't change the graphics if you're localizing a game - but you do have a good point.

It still looks like an awesome game, at least :)

  • @roymaster45

Meh @ awesome game. Playing Sakura games on non-Sega stuff is like playing FF on Xbox. It just feels wrong =\

  • But it's still going to be on PS2.

    Whatever, I think I'll like it :P

  • @roymaster45

PS2 is Sony not Sega xD

  • Meh, SEGA never really made many actual consoles after the DreamCast.

Look, I understand you might not like it because of the platform/graphics, but can you at least give it a try and tell me what you think?

  • @roymaster45

    LOL @ never really xD

The DC WAS Sega's last console! :P

Anyway, I seriously doubt this is coming out in Europe.

  • There's a chance it won't, but I looked on wikipedia, and there was both a publisher and a distributer for the game, so it probably will be.

  • "Dive into our apple pie of entertainment!!!"

    :)

  • "Diabolical Machinations!! =D"

    OH BOY!! I LOVE those!!

  • Looks excellent, only two complaints:

    1) If that's Gemini's actual voice, it could get annoying from time to time.

    2) Why is there a premium version for PS2 but not for Wii, when the PS2 isn't even in production anymore? (I know that PS2 games are playable on PS3 and the original Japanese version was on the PS2, but still)

  • @roymaster45

actually, ps2 games can't be played on the 3rd and 4th generation ps3's (the 1st 2nd and 3rd generations aren't being made anymore). And actually, the ps2 is still in production. I don't know if consoles are still being made, but sony isn't going to stop releasing games for it anytime soon. And I think it's not on the ps3 because it would be to costly to remake the whole game for the ps3 that might not sell very well. (but thats just my own speculation)

  • Meh, I still just think it's annoying that the only reason for putting the Premium version on PS2 is that the original game was on PS2.

  • @roymaster45

Oh and one more thing, I completely agree with you about her voice actor.

  • has anyone else noticed that the voice talking is the same voice as Ulrika from Mana Khemia 2, which is also by NIS America

  • Ohhh, I want the Sakura Shinguji T__T, because she is my favorite! But this game it's nice too

  • yeah this video didn't show me anything. could have easily been a trailer for an anime.

  • If you want to see gameplay watch the Sakura Wars V First Battle Part 1, here on youtube.

  • looks like crap... diss all you want... it's what i think...

  • Riiiight. Just diss one of the most popular and acclaimed JRPG series ever made.

It's simply not popular in America because of the lack of steady releases (SEGA LOL).

  • Eh... it's kinda a voice that sounds really annoying at first, and at that point you'll either mute it or keep listening. If you keep listening, it sounds natural and it seems almost normal. It's kinda like talking to someone with an accent you aren't used to.

  • just for the heck i will tell you people that this voice actress is awesome, her name is laura bailey, and she does litlle trunks in dbz and also chun li in street fighter 4, shin chan and the mom, also alot of other things that would make this reply bigger than all of the comments

  • It won't necessarily matter if the actress herself is awesome. Not to say this game has a bad script or anything, as I don't personally know myself, but the best actor in the world can be given a crap script and be told to do a crap voice and it won't make it sound any better. Unless Morgan Freeman is saying it.

Either way, why was it my comment you replied to, anyway?

  • it was the first comment i read. while i do agree with what you say, its just really interesting for me to hear her speak that way after hearing her in so many other roles, she has that redneck osaka talk perfect and i think its funny when i hear instead of being sexy like in bloodrayne or calm and collected like anko in naruto

  • shin chan's mom is done by Cynthia Kranz......I think I spelled her last name right (?)

  • yea your right i don't know why i was thinking laura did chi chi too but i was wrong good call her last name is spelled with c not k

  • lol see I shoulda stuck with my gut I originally did a C lol

  • Okay, now that you're all done whining about "her voice sucks!" and so on:

I distinctly heard "New York Combat Revue" at around 0:45. Looks like the dubbers fell for the kanji play on words that the Teito Hanagumi liked so much: the "Teikoku Kagekidan", which translates as "Imperial Assault Force", but when written with different characters, also means "Imperial Opera Troupe". They can be either the New York Fighting Troupe or the New York Little Lip Theater Revue, not both. Hope this is fixed.

  • its more of the same ol dub hate going on lol.Japanese can NEVER be bad.

  • EEk!the voice!!!!*dies*

  • Great, now this game is pure unplayable garbage unless I mute the volume >:[ Why did they make the voice the way it is?

  • It's a sad thing that there is NO JP audio planned for the Wii, and even sadder that JP audio is only a 'gift' item for pre-orders.

I was hoping to maybe give this game a try... now it's off to garbage dump with all the other dubbed only games.

  • I am so going to save up and get a copy of this game. hopefully more Sakura Wars games will come out to the USA.

  • i hope that voice doesnt narrate the game D:

  • I hope to hell that Sakura Shinguji's mech is the secret item. So many memories of Sakura Wars...

Just grateful to see a Sakura Wars game stateside, unless I slept on a game.

  • Ok. I just remember playing a bunch of Sakura Wars games on older consoles. I could not understand much what with not knowing how to read Japanese but it was fun.

  • The voice wasn't THAT annoying...

  • yes, it was.

  • It is.

  • You guys must hate being born in the english language if you thought Laura Bailey sounded THIS distracting. :/

  • VOICE IS SUCKY

  • They have Japanese names IN AMERICA

    ROFL

And this is how Japanese think ALL Americans sound.

  • Had to watch this on mute!

    Eww, her voice was terrible!

  • lol I am slightly horrified/amused by the japanese approximation of america. It'll especially be interesting to see how the one black character acts. (Only one black person around in new york city?)

    lol

  • There are more black characters in the game, not just her.

  • It IS set in 1930ish, to be fair.

I wonder if they go to Harlem. :)

  • Sakura Wars series doesn't even make an accurate approximation of Japan.

  • Wow. Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Chronicles 2 i want. I think I may buy this. HELL YES!!! More RPGs for me.

  • Just learned last night that this game was getting a US release. I was really surprised, but I'm kinda looking forward to this. ^_^ Anyone know why they're starting with the fifth game, though?

  • cuz Sega never bring tha org to US. It was org from Dreamcast an PC an saturn but never hit outside region. My guess if So Long, My Love dose good in sales Sega mite let tha other title to be license an mayb Idea Factory mite remake the org or NISA Bring tha PSP version.

  • Yeah I know the original never came to the US. I'm asking why they're bringing the FIFTH game in the series over instead of starting at the beginning. Like they could've brought the PS2 remake of the first game over and then remade the Saturn/Dreamcast games on the current-gen consoles. For them to start with the fifth game in the series would be chronologically confusing for new players, methinks.

  • Its a basic rule in publihsing world. Not all game makes it outside of region. license is one of tha hardest, not only that but u gotta make back what u spend. If ur a publisher an spend 5 million$ to publish a game an only sold 50k copies, thats around 2.5m$ made. Alot of publish dont want to take a risk publishing a game if they cant make back tha income. jRPG an SRPG dont sell as well as in Japanese. NISA, Atlus an Xseed takes alot of risk bringing games over that other publish wont.

  • i just pooped in my pants =/

  • Perhaps because they are too old. Perhaps if it becomes popular Sega will take it back and give us americans more. I am gonna love Sakura Wars and Valkyria Chronicles 2 (and the first one).

  • So why are two disk needed here. NIS has always put Japanese and English voices on one disk so what makes this one different.

  • Tha reason for 2 disc is due to data space. If a disc record 7.5 GB an Audio eats up enought space then we wont see Dual Audio in 1 disc. Plus the 2 disc is a collection version or limited edition.

  • DUB suck...

  • All you heard was the voice over in the trailer, she might not even be a character.

  • to voice sounds soo gay i hope thers a function to change it to japanese instead

  • SAKOOOR WARS

  • That accent is really annoying.

  • also if you read the previous comments, you'll find thats not Gemeni's real dibbed voice (thank god!)

  • Shame.

  • I think this will unfortunately be another great, but underappreciated game.

  • ...so who thought that people from New York sound like this?

  • the TV series is pretty awesome. not sure about the games.

  • The core of the Sakura Taisen franchise is the games, the games if what made Sakura Taisen famous in japan.

The TV adaptation and the OVA's are made for the fans of the games.

  • Can't wait, I love the NISA Games (although Nisa is technically jsut Distributing the series in the US, they don't make sakura wars) Still can't wait, even if the voice is a little offensive to a Southerner like myself I still think it'll be a fun game. Stinks its been moved back to January 2010.

  • This looks great. I'm a huge Sakura wars fan, I can't wait for this game!

  • you see the thing is sakura wars was one of the most popular games series in japan sold over 3 million copy's their. I don't think many americans appreciate games like these. basicly its a text based adventure game with dating sim elements and steampunk strategy action but nis america is taking the risk and having it come to the US. hoping if the Americans like the game enough and sold many copys we might have more of the series games come out in English.

  • Great, but the fake cowboy accent was so frickin' annoying

  • "Sukkura Wars"?

Apart from that one line, though, this is actually halfway decent. They overdid Gemini's cowgirl accent, but really, this is Sakura "we're driving steam-powered robots! Awesome!" Taisen. It's wonderfully appropriate in its own way.

  • Also, I thought they were localizing Rikaritta as Rosita? Or at least that's what I recall reading in Nintendo Power. Same with Sagitta.

  • Everything else is overdone if what I'm reading about the series is to be believed. NIS America felt that they may as well go all the way.

  • haha that voice acting was glorious and the music made it seem like i was watching the trailer for a bad 90's anime

  • They should come up with a gag dub of one of the cutscenes where everyone talks like that as a bonus feature.

  • Laura Bailey channeling Sandy Cheeks?

  • Oh dear God. The voice acting. I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep tonight...

  • This looks much better than i expected keep up the good work NISA.

  • I wonder what Laura herself has to say about this controversy. Someone attending Youmacon should keep in mind to ask her about that.

  • gotta play this game, no matter what, if you don´t like the english voices you can play the japanese voiced version, so no problem X3

  • Wait, was that Laura Bailey?

AWESOME! I must get this game when it comes out in 2010!

  • Holy crap, a Sakura Wars game?! IN AMERICA?!

...am I somehow drunk or something? That would explain this headache.

  • This dub is actually quite good, given the context. "Realistic" voices just wouldn't fit the absurdity of the series as a whole.

For God's sake, these are actresses-who-are-mecha-pilots in a steam-powered demon-filled world. Realism is far gone and done with.

  • This is not a dub, it is a preview for a dub. Don't judge an entire product on a few dozen lines from one voice, even if it is the best/worst one.

  • Regardless, it's also Laura Bailey.

  • Comment removed

  • That is correct. They were wise to use her voice to highlight the preview material.

  • Sakura Wars game is coming over?

    well, GOLLY!

  • Dammnit, I HATE that voice!! This game looked nice...but if ANY character is going to be using the narrator's voice....well, better buy some other game.... So is the narrator only going to talk in this trailer?? Or is that voice actually a character's??

Seriously....what's with that ACCENT AND VOICE of hers!?

  • She's an American character in a Japanaese-based series. Half the time that means they're hillarious stereotypes, which she is.

Sakura Wars is worth it though XD

  • She's a Texan from Japan's point of view.

Think of all the Japanese people from the Chinpokomon episode of South Park. Yeah, total polar opposite. And, yeah, that's her voice.

Luckily, 'Sokkra Worrs' comes in a two disk set--one disk is voiced entirely in English, the second is the Japanese dub. Treat it as you will.

Can't wait 'till 'Sokkra Worrs' comes out! ^_^

  • The game comes with two disks. One in English and one in Japanese, so just play the Japanese voice over version.

  • Oh, thank god. This chick is completely annoying.

  • SECRET BONUS ITEM???

  • its one of the characters her name is Gemini sunrise, NO its no joke thats her name. She is from Texas hince the accent.

  • The Sakura Taisen LE Dreamcast,.

Also, Ar Tonelico 2's dub was better than the sub(even though it was a buggy mess), so I have high hopes for ST5's dub.

  • Never mind the dub I just hope this gets released in the UK. I'm a huge Sakura Wars fan and just to be able to play one in English would be awesome.

  • I'm a big fan also, played all the games from Saturn to Dreamcast. Finally a US release Hope they at least also bring out 3 and 4. The last of the Tokyo and Paris story lines.

  • There's always a good chance that the original Japanese audio will be superior (especially since NIS America is involved in this case). There are exceptions, naturally. Still, I think it would be nice to hear some accents for once, especially since this takes place in America, which has decidedly many more accents represented than Japan.

  • i cannot wait to plsy this.

  • Japanese for me, then!

Not that bad, but original voices are unbeatable.

  • This trailer showcases only one voice. Normally I would say that it's ridiculous to judge an entire dub of a yet unreleased by one voice, but since this is Laura Bailey, I'm starting on English and not turning back.
