  • Would this kind of scale fall under the category of "modes", right?

  • @Krillain

yes ...it is the 5th mode of the Harmonic Minor scale

  • @Krillain Thank you :D

  • How many acoustic playing videos do you have?

Seriously it's very inspiring for me when i see this kind of videos and i learn it very fast.

Can you take it like a suggestion? Do more of this!

    Thanks for all the lessons!

  • @DavixeTheBoss

this is the only acoustic video

i am not specialist in acoustic guitar, thank you

  • what other scales can i use along with the e phrygian dominant scale? thank you.

  • @johnscraco

none..because of the dominant seven chord on the background

Dominant seven chord is the chord of Mixolydian scale

that it totally different in terms of sound

  • @johnscraco the phrygian dominant scale is actually the "5th" mode of the harmonic minor scale.. for example, the E phrygian dominant scale comes from the A harmonic minor scale..

so you can play the harmonic minor scale on A, locrian #6 on B, ionian #5 on C, dorian #4 on D, lydian #2 on F and superlocrian on G#. they would all have the same notes, so basically "relative" scales..

  • @johnscraco and if you're playing over an E dominant chord (E7, with only 1 3 5 b7 degrees, and no extensions such as b9, 11 or 13) then you can play the E mixolydian mode (5th mode of the major scale), E lydian-b7 mode and the E mixolydian-b6 mode (4th and 5th modes of the melodic minor scale).. or any of their relative scales..

    hope thats helpful.. :)

    and if

  • @JoshGoldie

  • @JoshGoldie e phrygian dominant is the 5th mode of A harmonic minor

  • You are great teacher man :) I'm playing the guitar for probably seven years and I can tell all guys how helpful are videos like that. When I wrote my first song I didn't know what phrygian dominant scale is and I composed notes by ear and after few months someone told me that this is phrygian dominant (mode of harmonic minor) this is really great scale and I give you full respect for teaching the others :) It's kinda cool when you move up a half-step seventh note of this scale. Greetings man!

  • dude thank you for lhe lesson i love the Phrygian mode and this was a cool lesson for it. any chance though you revisit it using some precussive acoustic strums?

  • @mattdd05

this is a really cheap acoustic (Westfield)

you can find it on ebay for less than 150 euros

  • You sure like your guitars green. Oh and thanx for the lessons!

  • he holds the acoustic like its a feather... oh gosh......so strong...

  • Thanks for your music, though :)

  • Thanks for the lesson, and also Territory 4 is good :)

Where can I get all the modes, intervals, scales, chord progressions etc, can u help me with a link, please :)

  • @MrBlackieee

just get a good theory book

i cannot find a "all in one" link to provide you

  • really love you tutorials....please post more about phrygian scales

  • really good lesson thanks! do you have a link to the other positions of the scale? i want to learn to go all over the neck.

  • @thefightbackband

no...i don't video about all the 5 positions

it is not difficult to find on google

  • Do you have any tips on soloing in Harmonic minor, as in what other scales can be used while using all 7 modes?

  • @LichKingSkullWart

the only tip is to treat Harmonic minor as an Aeolian with a major seventh

    ...this will make things easier

  • @LichKingSkullWart

Rlly, "minor" is an umbrella term for music that makes use of all the collections of pitches referred to as the natural, melodic, and harmonic minor scales. So to solo in minor with max proficiency, you should be able to use all of them in the larger context of whatever minor key you are in, depending on whether you have a major 5, or you're leading back to the 1, etc.

Aeolian happens when you decide, for artistic reasons, to avoid traditionally minor features like raised 6&7

  • good job man i love latin style of solo.... i like that thanks man........ great....

  • @Ghaeis666

    no...we did the sessions online

  • how can you play exactly 2 strings without hitting the others? i cant do that :) need some more practice.

  • @marino4691 Takes some muscle memory, it does everything, it's like chord changing. :P

  • @ThaFiloon Hmm ok. Too bad i quit playing guitar with 10 years. had to start from beginnin now

  • @marino4691

    just practice...

  • Hi Theodore Ziras, Im not sure how the g sharp diminished chord pattern looks like. Could You Tell Me The What The Notes On each string are in that chord? Thanks. I Really Love your videos!

  • A little sloppy there, Theo :P.

But it's fine, man -- you're amazing. Plus I know it's hard to shred on an acoustic haha.

  • Yes i agree...this performance it is not very good

this video was one take...no overdubs

    i am not acoustic guitarist

but i think that you got the idea of what i am saying on this video...

  • Yep. I'm actually jealous of how good you are. But, as long as I keep practicing well, I'll catch up haha.

You rock, man! Thanks for the lessons.

  • yo man great guitar playing where can i buy your CD ?

    TheodoreZiras(dot)com

  • you are formidably, bravissimo, joselito amigo

  • haha did i just spot the Line6 PodX2 in the background? order mine just seconds ago! Keep up the awesome lessons man

  • exxelente buen toque amigo y buena la explicacion we saludos desde venezuela 5/5 guitarr classika

  • You use 3 chords in this video: E major, f major and G# diminished. Can we use more chords? I think 3 chords is small number of chords. Which else chords can we use?

  • Check on wikepdia the Harmonic Minor scale

There you can find all the chords of each mode

  • @letecagitara You just need to form the triad based on each degree. I'll give you the chords and take a look and see if you know what I mean:

    E Maj, F Maj, G# dim, A min, B dim, C Aug, D min.

All the notes are there in the scale, you just have to know what the scale is and count out the distances in degrees to find the triads (chord tones) for each degree.

  • great vids thank u very much teacher +)

  • cool video i really like learning things about the guitar

  • Thanks for the video! Thanks for explaining the reason for the G# diminished chord. Awesome.

  • i don't understand anything about dominant or such... I've learned a lil by myself, just know penthatonics and some sweep but idk how to play the guitar :( I just know how to make it sound

  • Good job!! Keep posting videos!!!!!

  • Awesome vid Theodore. Thanks for the friendinvite !! Tried to comment on your channel, but it disappeared 3 times lol.

  • tnx mr ziras...your a great teacher

  • Nice once again! I'm always looking forward to your great lessons!

  • Thank you for fulfilling my request Theodore! A very good and (might I add) badass lesson. Not to mention it showed off your versatility. I was wondering if you could make a Lick of the Week with your take on soloing by "following each chord" (like Marty Friedman in Melodic Control).

  • Ok man...i will do it...thanks

  • Great lesson and solo Ziras. but this is where i get stuck, in 1 box. How do you comfortable with going up and down the neck and stay in key. Do you memorize all the boxes and switch to the next one?...or whats up? Thanks Ziras.!

  • I am using 5 boxes for every scale

I memorize them...this is the only way

  • Thank you ZIRAS!

  • lol ZirasTV

  • I would like to see you playing scales without doing vibrato at every last note.

Vibrato should be used as spice. As a variation or an alternative.

Don't get me wrong, I think you are awesome at guitar. But my teacher showed me this, because once I used vibrato carelessly. And it's really not that simple to just stop doing something you once did by automation.

Just a tip! (: By the way, I love your lessons and I do learn a lot.

    -Kazshmir

  • I think he knows what he is doing.. and he is probably doing it because he is using an acoustic guitar to make the notes live a bit longer otherwise they'd fade away pretty fast.

  • @Vignirv

I'm SURE he knows what he is doing. I really am. But no it's not just when he plays acoustic. It's in every lesson.

  • @ Kazshmir. thank the lord for your tips on carelessly using vibrato. your teacher must have been more than human.

  • I didn't get that?

  • Nice lesson man, your a very good teacher. Thanks for this wonderful video.

    Take care

  • Cool guitar with your Green ID color, also customer made model?

  • no...just a normal cheap acoustic
