Caril Ann Fugat sure got off easy compared to Charles Starkwether. I saw an interview on this case and one of the police offcials said it very well when talking about Starkweather's execution in the electric chair. "Too bad she was not sitting on his lap!"

It is difficult to convey the widespread fear of encountering the murderous pair. They killed at scattered locations with no pattern or apparent motive, and were thought to be looking for fresh transportation and money. Our fears were well founded, as the victijms other than Caryl Fugate's family members were unsuspecting individuals killed for no apparent reason. We were there!
