A question for atheists. In a world where there's no proof of God's existence or of life after death; how will you explain to your children why you brought them into the world and why they should die?
There is no need for such an explanation because that is not the reason to bring a life into this world!
Children are an expression, and great source of love and joy. They are certainly not brought into the world just so they can die, anyone who agree's with this idea hopefully has never had children and never should!
Worse is the thought that children should be brought into this world to be indoctrinated into the bronze age superstitions of their parents, to become mindless sheep who blindly adhere a questionable faith basically because they're afraid of life after death! What a waste life is fantastic - LIVE IT!!!!
wow he showed a picture of the tilma image of our lady of Guadalupe as something that was painted or made by catholics, he must know more than all the scientist ,doctors, computer engineers, surgical opthamologist and Opticians that studied it first hand.
Many people cant distinguish arrogance from raw honesty. Hitchens speaks of what he truly thinks no bullshit attached, he doesn't care if u r offended and most of the cases people need to be offended especially religious hypocrites.
So WTF if u're offended? What r ur arguments to prove Hitchens is wrong n just an arrogant person? none! so therefore u ppl resort to plain insult.
Hitchens is an honest n above average intelligent human being, much more charmfull n has more charisma than your 'god'
Originality's been dead for years, so people claim. I see you're not a fan, so you likely haven't heard his more original stuff. It's a bit like politicians using party talking points to get your attention, with the details ending up buried. That holds true for most debates, come to think of it.
Humans operate morally (ethically) through mimetic desire. All coveting is mimetic desire in action. To the degree that one's desires lead one to deceive, lust, steal, scapegoat, assault, torture, murder, genocide, war, one's actions (moral choices) becomes destructive of society & ultimately, one's self. Hitchens, a superb anti-religionist, is an uneducated anthropologist & greatly devalues most of his anti-religious screeds by his fundamental lack of understanding human nature.
@BrotherWoody1 I agree witgh you, there is this weird thing going around these days that I call 'Hitchens worship', or 'the cult of Christopher Hitchens'. People seem to look to Hitchens as their new guru. I've never bought into any of it. A lot of things that he says are just plain ignorant and stupid, not everything but a good portion of it. Fawn over Hitchens's supposed 'intellectual prowess' if you want, but count me as a non-believer.

Wait ! He's saying that it's more important to not commit perjury than to kill someone ? So, it's worse to lie about someone then to fucking kill them ??? Sorry, this does not represent superior moral judgement. And I'm going to keep my fucking cellpjhone on if I want and if you don't like it you can just kiss my ass ! there, I just made an arbitrary rule of my own. If he can do it then I can do it. That's another one of my commandments.
@zimtran007 If you think thats what this completely rash intelligent scholar is saying then I truly have to question your sanity, and if I may I will also question your sanity on how quit irrate you became at the mear thought of someone telling you to get off your fucking cell phone evidently has made you. Considering the recent studies of cell phone use linked to brain cancer you're time may in fact be best suited to a lab somewhere trying to figure out if that is why you are so ignorant.
@mriseedumbpeople If he thinks that he can make rules than so can I, or so can anybody. If he can use the word 'fucking' and feign annoyance than so can I, or so can anybody. What ? You label someone a 'scholar' and all of a sudden they are supposed to get unquestionable respect ? Well he's not getting it from me. As for cancer ? I'll bet cell phones don't cause it like cigarettes and booze do ! And who cares if you think that I'm insane ? What makes your (or his) judgement sane ?
@mriseedumbpeople There are no moral absolutes here. If (as Protagoras said) "man is the measure of all things", then I am a man and am free to measure as I please. I'm an atheist, but unlike so many of my fellow atheists I understand that there is NO firm ground to stand on when it comes to morality and ethics, it's all relative. The very notion of morality and ethics is just a hold over from religion. Hitchens tries in vain to impose a new moral sense on us. It's gone,

@mriseedumbpeople He can make up all the rules that he wants to in his head but they are all just his own imaginings and delusions. We are free, free from his rules too. Free to think as we please about everything, even the things that he considers 'wrong' are just his opinions. no one need accept any of it. No one made him the new rule maker. There are no rules, anymore.
@mriseedumbpeople I have watched, read, and well understood Christopher Hitchens in his totality. Which is exactly why I say what I say. His morality and ethics are his, they have no claim on anyone else. He is entitled to his opinions, but no one is under any obligation to adhere to his ideas about ethics or morality. We will decide this for outselves. We do not govern ourselves, our thoughts and our actions by what Christopher Hitchens thinks is right and wrong.
"Turn Off That Fucking Cellphone"!!
I will miss Mr. Hitchens. It was like he spoke for me to the world. RIP,CH

@TheOptimistPrime I get tired of his arrogant attitude too, but it's still good to see him destroy someone every once in a while.
