  • @UGotKilledByACamper thats exactly correct, the most important gear meshing in an airsoft gearbox is the motor's pinion to the bevel gear, If you get that right, the gearbox will rip super smooth

  • MIKE u should get a dual sector gear for your mini gun cause they can bring your rof to 3600 rounds a minute making it way more realistic

  • hey, ive tried this method and my motor still gets really hot when even its jus the gears and motor in it. could u help me out with this. the gearrs move freely. ive put the motor to where it perfectly meshes with the bevel and it still overheats. also would u recomend i glue down the bushings. i really do need help on this.

  • @zerofan107 let me guess...is it a stock motor? without a doubt glue the bushings down before even thinking about the gears.

    hi,im from germany so i cant really tell like a us citizen,but to me watching american movies in english,it really sound like it....sorry for the off topic.i used to spend a lot of time on gearboxes and spend way toooo much money in AEG and GBB´s...just had to draw a line right there.i was a G&P fetishist...haha...now all my gear dwelling in the basement collecting dust.thanx for the reply....

  • I guess you need to be an Uploader to get answers .. This seems to have worked very well. My motor ended up being backed all the way down. Even one turn of the motor height screw would have been too high. Sounds real smooth and I have successfully built my first gearbox!! Thanks again!!!!

  • @KWAzyMofo nice job man, once you get the hang of this method you can shim a box correctly in about a half hour, glad to hear it helped

  • Mike did you drill a hole in your pistol grip also to see the gear alignment? I have drilled the view holes in my gearbox but when i nstall my pistol grip and motor and the view hole in the gearbox is covered by the grip. Any advice?

  • @davkenrem okay the version 2 box, what I did is drill the box to see the gears, then trim the pistol grip itself on the side just barely enough to see the hole when attached. Some people don't want to do that, but I don't really care. If you don't want to trim the grip, then just buy another pistol grip to use for shimming purposes only. Once you've got the box shimmed just right, swap the grips and go. Think of the cut grip as a tool

  • Fantastic video! All the years I've been tooling around YouTube and this is the vid that makes me submit a post 8) so thanks for that.

    How much axle play is acceptable? i read one poster say no more than your smallest shim, is that an accurate statement? I shimmed a v3 stock jg and added 7mm bearings to it but stripped two spur teeth(sector portion) before it shot even once. I think it was way too tight, one gear had NO play. New gb, motor and gears en route then I'll try your method.

  • I have quite a bit of experience working on gearboxes, but what this video showed me is so obvious and yet brilliant I can't believe I hadn't analyzed the system in that way before. I never quite got how one tooth on my pinion gear had a chip in the middle of it when the gears were supposed to mesh like you show. Thanks a lot, I'll report back if the results on my G&P M4 are as good as I hope. I won't be drilling holes in the GB, so it will be a bit more challenging, but I'm sure I can manage.

  • @pierrele NO I have used 3 different motors once you set it up right, you're good to go. I just reshimmed the version 2 gearbox, not the one in the minigun, and it came out perfect

  • is the sector suppose to have a bunch of shims on top of it? that's how mine ended up to prevent it from moving around..i feel like i did it completely wrong.

  • @JEAirs0ft I hope the video helps....I just bought a set of 16:1 gears for my version 2 gearbox today....I am going to video the install to clarify some things on the version 2 gearbox. The version 3 is without a doubt an easier gearbox to shim.

  • Your a genius, I have successfully re shimmed 6 gearboxes, just re did my Scar and I tore up my motor pinion and some of my bevel gear teeth using the traditional method. I have ordered Hi torque gears and motor, I will be using your technique for sure. Thanks bro

  • @jymmyjaymes everyone says shim the spur gear low...but look close, when the spur gears has a .5mm shim....any wobble and the spur teeth want to smash the bevel gear bushing. Immediate destruction. I know one thing, I will never shim another gearbox without the bevel to pinion gear method like the minigun has.

  • This method actually helped me fix my motor over heating in my DSG :D It would get hot even if i ran it with just the gears and no load, but not just the motor alone. Found this from seeing your mini gun on ASM nice work

  • @toddcraton dude i want a DSG setup bad.. REAL BAD. that thing probably runs so smooth its stupid. The minigun runs so cool, compared to the stock shimjob its insane, and I hold the trigger down for 10 minutes straight BANGBANGBANGBANG :)

  • @Mikeandwendy74 yeah, my last shim job caused the bevel to seat improperly and it actually ate through part of a bushing! but now its running sooo smooth haha. It shouldnt be too hard to put together just buy the DSG gear and you can match it with any choice of bev spur, well im guessing you know that since you are on ASM haha

  • @mikeandwendy74 so when you shim the bevel gear are you shimming the top of it up to the motor pinion and then putting the remaining shims underneath it or are you shimming from underneath and then filling on the top like the other gears

  • @jessedc great question, I shim the bevel up to meet the pinion, usually does not take much at all....then I shim the top to eliminate 99% of bevel motion.

  • yea i did this but my sector already had a broken tooth and i ran it off a lipo and it broke but watever they were shit gear gettin super high speed now

  • Usually people will say that they have their gearboxes are shimmed perfect but sounfd like crap so thats what i was expecting with your v3. when you first fired it my jaw just dropped. Great job with the shimming!

Still shooting like a beast, so far zero repairs to the gearbox....I blew through 130,000 rounds that I won in an airsoft contest... .20 gram cheapos...in one week. I couldn't even tell you how many times I have fired this rifle at this point...must be upwards of 500,000
