Were the castrati were invented to replace women in the choirs and later become operatic supertars now usually those male roles are performed by mezzosopranos and contraltos(The female lower voice) And many of them like Natalie Stuzmann or Marijana Mijanovic are specialist in play male roles also know as trouser roles. In ballet is harder cause if a man wants to perform a female role he needs to dance en pointe but most male dancer never learn that.

they dance very well but notice the legs are too skinny anorexia is !!!!! I love to dance ballet and hip hop more than anything in my life but these children are very thin ... I know that dance requires a skinny body but is too so much can cause health problems!! I think I should eat more! BUT Never give up !!! BECAUSE ONE DAY YOU CAN COME TO GET WHAT YOU REALLY WANT ... Then comes puberty and things are different boys need to gain weight and muscle so they need to go the gym(male dacers need to strong to lift) and girls needs to stop gaining weight.

We had a football player come in and take a pilates class at our studio, and half way through it he was giving up, sweating real hard, and complaining. all of the dancers (boys and girls) were still going strong. When he left my ballet teacher goes, "And they call football players althletes!!" LOL!!

@the2009guy its actually not that bad, the boys will still have to lift weights and stuff. if you have actually seen some of the male dancers to push ups then u wouldn't be saying that. ballet is both a sport & an art. when in an duet and solo boys are responsible for carrying girls and jumping high, you wouldn't believe all the excercises they have to do to get that amount of upper and lower body muscle to be able to get that role.

I like this teacher! She makes a lot of corrections but still laughes and isn't super mean. Too many ballet teachers are just cruel. In my opinion, it's not neccesary! You learn so much better that way!

wow...i've always wanted to dance there but it's pretty hard seeing as I'm in South Africa. I admire these young(well not so young now) dancers. Our Cape Town City Ballet Company is struggling in this financial climate and it's always such a joy for me to see men dance. They're soo rare sometimes.

I have to salute the danseur-- the few, proud men out there trying to make leaping around in pantyhose to classical music a respectable, dignified profession.
Not just the pro pulling in several thousand a week, but... these baby ballerinos right here. The next generation is still fighting strong, too. There's a revolution for the Y chromosone to have a place in the ballet studio--even the soldiers still in pediatrics.
That is sooooo sad. What happens if he injures himself and can never dance again...suddenly his center will shift and he'll have nothing left. What about education? You can't be a dancer for ever. Start thinking realisticly about your future.

I was watching a You Tube clip from TV programme called 'Britain's got Talent.
An 11 year old boy called 'James Hobley' performed a dance.
He clearly has an amazing natural talent, it would be such a pity if was not properly nurtured.

@wrenbrrd I would respectfully suggest that what is limited about our thinking is that femininity is somehow a negative thing ( i.e., when expressed in a male body). Women show masculine traits and we generally applaud them as "new age"rs. Men show feminine traits or engage in traditionally feminine activities and they are often scorned. This is whycontemporary feminist principles are important, indeed, vital.

I think guys that do ballet only are the manliest guys in the world. They are much stronnger than football players.
We had a football player come in and take a pilates class at our studio, and half way through it he was giving up, sweating real hard, and complaining. all of the dancers (boys and girls) were still going strong. When he left my ballet teacher goes, "And they call football players althletes!!" LOL!!

@the2009guy its actually not that bad, the boys will still have to lift weights and stuff. if you have actually seen some of the male dancers to push ups then u wouldn't be saying that. ballet is both a sport & an art. when in an duet and solo boys are responsible for carrying girls and jumping high, you wouldn't believe all the excercises they have to do to get that amount of upper and lower body muscle to be able to get that role.

Secondly, look at any professional male dancer. They are extremely masculine in the way they dance.

@94miata look, I'm not saying that dancing makes boys feminine, I'm saying that if they dance ballet specifically, that's feminine. that's not a question of agreeing or disagreeing, it's a question of fact, those moves are womanly, end of discotion!!!+ yes, i listen to lady gaga, and I'm not feeling a shame for that + all the MALE ballet dancers in this video (and not only them) are super skinny + I'm originally from Israel, and my folks speak only Hebrew, so you can't blame me for my spelling

I like this teacher! She makes a lot of corrections but still laughes and isn't super mean. Too many ballet teachers are just cruel. In my opinion, it's not neccesary! You learn so much better that way!

wow...i've always wanted to dance there but it's pretty hard seeing as I'm in South Africa. I admire these young(well not so young now) dancers. Our Cape Town City Ballet Company is struggling in this financial climate and it's always such a joy for me to see men dance. They're soo rare sometimes.
keep going....keep inspiring because there are always people watching and dreaming of your successes.

To answer Acadeny1- He's now sixteeen, and to answer Countryroo123 - White Lodge has one of the best Ofsted reports in the country, and these kids are very well educated in all other subjects, not just in dance. Judging by all your spelling mistakes, I don't think your own education was much good.

I have to salute the danseur-- the few, proud men out there trying to make leaping around in pantyhose to classical music a respectable, dignified profession.
Not just the pro pulling in several thousand a week, but... these baby ballerinos right here. The next generation is still fighting strong, too. There's a revolution for the Y chromosone to have a place in the ballet studio--even the soldiers still in pediatrics.
