  • Great style and feel. Well done man!

  • Pure pleasure. Love the rhythm and the way you keep the time and form in your head through it all and keep us on track. I just have to learn your version!

  • Amazing and beautiful!! Great job!!!

  • Great job! This is very much like Bobby Gentry's version without the strings. But you really caputured the remarkable beauty and distinctive groove of this song.

  • ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's so nice to listen and it seems you're palying it so easily...

Your videos make me motivated to practice even more the guitar.

  • GUITAR FACES - Gotta do it if it's goin' to sound right. When I was an apprentice at age 13 and was struggling to break a nut loose the craftsman told me: "you're not holding your mouth right".

  • is this a hard one to learn i really like the sound of it great feel ive been playing guitar my whole life my family has strong roots in bluegrass so i want to get more into the fingerpicking style and would love to add this great piece you did it sounds great man!!!

  • GOOD STUFF

  • Yep, just plain awesome. But see that banjo in the background? it´ll do that sort of thing to ya...

  • made me want to play with you....very good!!!

  • It's not the left hand but his right hand that works so extraordinary accentuated and produces this tone.

Brillant and best dynamic fingerstyle guitarist I know.

  • quel feeling ! Superb !

  • What I would give to have that left hand! Your touch is perfectly nuanced. Another brilliant performance. Thanks for sharing with us Martin is very generous of you.

  • Sweet man! video this fingering style, I need to see it up close. Really man this is sweet..

  • i really hate pulm muting on acoustic guitars. nice playing tho

  • why do you hate palm muting?

i think if it is used in the right way it can sound great...

  • The original has a way of grabbing you and pulling you into the song. You really have been able to recreate that feeling for me with this Martin. Fantastic, expressive playing!

  • yo Roy it is the Tallahatchee bridge amigo.

    great playin' man...

  • is there a billie joe other then the one from green day that i dont know about?

  • from a movie back in the 70's...Billie Joe McAllister...jumped off the Tallahassee bridge...

  • right. thanks

  • Love it!

  • Word. Martin is a true gentelman. Click on his post up there. You'll be awestruck by what he offers. Most of theses videos are tabbed absolutely free! No teasers,No B.S.,No strings attached. (guitar pun not intended.)

  • Wow! Great rendition! You're a super guitarist! I agree with the comment on how you can "hear" the singing in your picking!

  • Amazing! love it...

  • Your guitar styling reminds me of the vocal styling that made this song a hit years ago. In fact you've captured so much soul with your playing I can almost hear the lyrics being sung! Totally expressive.

  • Whats the tuning for this one my friend?

  • Hi, the tuning is drop-D, the 6th string tuned down a whole step.

  • dang come south.that stuff will feed the south till our cup runs over.

  • badass....

  • i am so hooked .. OMGawd

.. i cant even see to type anymore :)))

  • true :D

  • stellar!!!!

  • Great picking!!! I truly enjoyed it. Thanks.

  • Hej Martin!

I love that beat you have! Just cannot sit still! I remember this tune too from my youth! (that's how old I am) :)

    Sweet!

How is the CD coming along?

    Per-Olov

  • Much as I admire Chet's electric version here on youtube I prefer the directness and funkier groove of your more sparse acoustic version. Chet's version was very much of its time.

  • Thanks! I heard the song again by chance and pretty quickly found this way of playing it, it´s in the original key. I could have done more with it, like you say - for example to raise the melody line an octave the 3rd verse or so. However, I mostly wanted to get it out of my system while I was "in the groove" :)

  • MArtin I am hooked on your vids. Thank you!

  • WOW, thats such a nice version

  • great arrangement...I remember looking at the sheet music for this..over 20 years ago. It suggested a much busier arrangement. Which didn't work all that well. I tried it at the time. At that time I got a texas instrumetns 99/4a to play this song...a feet back then. But yes the arrangement I was working with was way too busy. This is much better.

  • Thanks, well I wanted to keep it simple like the original vocals, although Bobbie of course had the great lyric story for diversity...

  • @quincy451 Wow Ti 99/4a used to have one of those....Basic/Basic.

  • Tror nog du kan vara sveriges främsta akustiskagitarrspelare om det ordet finns! Din "feeling" är makalös! Fortsätt spela :) / Wictor

  • Hej, vad kul att du gillar liret, tack!

    MVH/ Martin

  • Gorgeous, an inspired choice for an instrumenal.

    Lee

  • Martin,

Great arrangement! Proof once again that keeping it simple is best. That's a good choice of guitar for that piece, also.

    Jeff

  • very cool!!!!!

  • You're so good!

  • belle maitrise amenée de douceur

  • I like and agree with the "God Of Groove" comment. There's one for the CD sleeve notes! Wish I had thought of it myself. Very unusual tune to do as an acoustic instrumental but it works because of the great and funky "groove". I think it would also have worked well with a banjo style open string guitar section in it, including up the neck for variety. A key change would add to it also.

  • I have listened to it again. Some open string work might fit well as it did in Man of Constant Sorrow. The flow of open string playing is a lovely contrast to a funky groove. Am not now that sure about the key change - just an idea that occured to me. I love the drive in this - it is exceptional.

  • härligt att du gjort en ny video, helt otroligt spelat! ser fram emot mer

  • Do you flow with the guitar or does the guitar flow with you? Couldnt deside :-) Your great!!! Dont keep us waiting too long. All the best!

  • You play very!

    How swing!

This is music of the best quality!

    Cheers and Hugs.

  • It would seem that Jerry Reed has a qualified heir to the Funky-Acoustic-Finger-Style-Guitarist throne. Congratulations on your new position.

  • Oh, Wow! That was just about the greatest thing I've ever seen and heard on guitar. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome talent with the world.

  • Hi Martin! Awesome playing as usual! Greetings, Marc

  • Definitely good man!

  • You're the GOD of groove !

  • always good martin ! i hope your new album is an acoustic one. ;-) andré

  • WOW!!!! Sounds great Martin

Now please dont take this the wrong way but your birth must have been a hard on your mom because I know with the passion you have and show when playing you must have been born with a guitar in your hands

You are a true talented man with a guitar my friend

    Thanks for the post

    Paul

  • Great! I love your sound.

  • Great!
