That sounded really good. I really think you have the presence to be picked up by a condenser. It just sounds more natural and lifelike. Might be a blessing in disguise that you had a piece of cardboard ...... Makes a softer and smoother sound. They have some various felt and pressed paper picks that bass players use when they want to sound like real bass players. Definitely should find a way to work with the condenser more, even if you have to put it a few feet away for some songs. Sounds good.

@zunistevenson Cool, I am glad to hear that I was helpful. I figured that a condenser would be your best method, because the sm58 is really just an sm57 with a clown-nose over the capsule, but both the 57 and 58 are good dynamic mics and work well for high-SPL sources (like guitar amps) at close proximity because they have the ability to tighten up something loud, brash, and up close. People use them on vocals to "warm up" vocals, but your voice is best reproduced by the accuracy of a condenser.
