  • That was cold, Bert.

  • One of the few episodes where Bert gets a little justice!! I love it!

  • This is possibly the only time Iv seen Bert win.

  • @HoshinoLibra

There was another episode where Ernie walked up to the camera to find out what something was...and Bert told him it was a "mysterious nose snatcher".

And when Ernie got close enough...it took Ernie's nose...Burt won that one too.

  • I wonder if Ernie likes 'R' rated movies?

  • @jimmyboy7817

And maybe Bert likes 'J' rated movies!

  • I wonder if Ernie likes 'R' rated movies?

  • This sounds like a classic episode. What year was this?

  • @MrTornado300

That would be from the first season (1969-1970), judging by Ernie's shirt.

  • Were Bert and Ernie lovers?

  • @ChrislovesKrystal

That issue has been debated since the dawn of "Sesame Street" history! I do not know if there is any one right or wrong answer.

  • I guess you can say that Bert really kicked Ernie's Rs.

  • Bert was real mean in this one. And yet he won out. Seriously, it's as if they've switched bodies.

Also, Ernie mentioned Rhode Island... how are kids going to know what that is?

  • lol I couldn't pronounce R's when I was little, so I hated this sketch, lol.

  • I once had an "S" collection. It included a magnet "S" and a metal hook that was shaped like an "S."

  • Bert, you hypocrite!

  • ur right Bert, J's are much cooler than R's :D

  • I think this is the first time I've ever seen Bert win out over Ernie. Usually Bert becomes the punch line in all jokes.

  • if you look carefully next to bert's belly on the right of screen at point 1:22 to end of Video youl see the puppeteer is visible

  • Bert and Ernie have tie with Shaggy and Scooby as being TVs first stoners.

  • That end music is so rare for 1969. The

only time that piece would be heard again

was the clip where Kermit The Frog and

a director who called him "Mr. Boss" had

tried to make a watered down version of

"Goldilocks And The 3 Bears". The girl

quit the scene, and Kermit suggested the

director change the play to "Goldilocks

And The 3 Chairs" About 1987.

  • haha Bert got Ernie this time! :D

  • Bert is angry with Ernie, because he collects Rs? Bert collects paper-clips. I think this is not better. -.-"

    Idiot...

    But they are funny. =D

  • Bert is a dick in this one.

  • Could someone please upload the sketch where Bert & Ernie Share Jellybeans?

  • In addition, could someone please upload the sketch of Ernie's "What Happens Next?" game, along with the "Cookie Cabinet" skit?

  • Cookie cabinet is in youtube but in polish

search: emil i hubert on youtube. i hope I help

  • try r for rugrats

  • By R, I thought it was collection of "R RATED" Moments, lol Wow I'm stupid.

  • I thought Bert was a little ARRsh there. *groan*

  • i collect Rs and Js

  • That was so hypocritical of Bert! Telling Ernie it's ridiculous to collect Rs yet he collects Js!

Bert did get Ernie back this time though, that was what was funny about it :)

LOL I bet Bert was jealous because he wanted the nice shiny box. Meanie!

  • From 1969.

  • Bert finally won once!

  • Ernie gave a shout out to Rutgers!! Cool!

  • Bert finally kicks back!

  • he got that j from himself because he is a jerk

  • Ernie gets him comeuppance, lol

  • You can see Frank's hand at the bottom when Bert waves his J at 1:23 !

  • Does anyone have the skit where Grover talks about the letter R? In that one there's a small foam R that mimics the R words Grover mentioned and then the R blasts off like a Rocket. Then Grover says "That is Ridiculous". Anyone have that one? I'd like to see that one again.

  • I'D like to see the one where Bert has made an "Automatic 'R' Detector". Every time either one said an "R" word, the bell rang. Ernie told an "R" tongue twister, causing it to break. Er4nie replied "Oh, my the machine looks {r}uined.", to which it gave a sad last {ding}. Then Bert said, "Rats!". To which the machine absolutely fell apart. Has anyone EVER seen this?

  • I haven't see the actual footage, but I have heard it on one of those albums. Perhaps someone could at least post the audio. But yeah, I know which skit you're talking about. That's where Ernie says "Rosko ranged rabbits", right?

  • OH! THAT"S what he said! I'M hard-of-hearing, & he was talking fast, so I couldn't understand WHAT he said, but YES, THAT part sounds right! Do you know where I might see the entire script of this?

  • Sorry. I'm afraid I don't. But I'm sure you'll find it if you google it. Perhaps Tinydancer's Sesame Lyrics site has it. Hope this helps.

  • Ernie also visited the Reading Rainbow show one day, and guess what they gave him?!

    Great clip!

  • As Ralph Kramden might have said about this clip:

    "R R R-dy R R."

  • I totally agree with Bert on this one. Who in their right mind would collect Rs? It makes absolutely no sense at all! J is the way to go. Or I. Or W, of course. But R??? I don't think so! Come on, people, seriously. R???

  • LOL!

  • That's discrimination. Rs, unite!

  • @tncookies R you serious?

  • @tncookies W is the one to collect. Remember the song about the W Lovers? I had that on a Seseme Street record album as a kid. W is grand as can be! Also the L song was cool. La, la, la, la lumps in my oatmeal! I found this because I was wondering if there was a video to go with the audio skit about the R machine. They also did a song about J, J, Jump, Joyful, Jumble around, Jack-in-the-box Jumpin' all over town. Sorry, I just have a good memory for songs. My hubby calls me a walking jukebox.

  • '.. and I got these two down at the railroad crossing.'

  • What Bert did was mean. Yes Ernie did drive Bert crazy but at least he never called Bert dumb & stupid. After seeing this I'm not surprised by all the stuff he did.

  • I think Bert was just trying to con Ernie out of that box. Why doesn't Bert go out and BUY him a box?

  • 'Hey, Ernie, is that your "R" collection?'

    'Well, it's yours too, Bert."

    'Wow! Really?'

    'Yep! Yours, mine and R's.'

  • hahaha that's really funny!

  • No wonder Ernie drove Bert nuts over the next several years...Revenge of the Rs!

  • Wow! Bert finally gets Ernie to sob for a change...

  • no 1 collects r's? y not?

  • J Collection? RED FLAG!! Bert's high!

  • Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. So Js are okay and Rs are not? Bert, shame on you.

  • J... Chris Jericho... XD

  • J-Lo and JJ Fad? Sounds good, but not back then, too early.

  • Joan Jett, Janet Jackson? No, still too early.. ah! Janis Joplin.

  • There ya go!

  • man Bert always looked pissed off back in the day LOL

  • Sharing a flat with Ernie will do that to ya.

  • 'Hey, Ernie! Check out my 'J' collection. I got these from the Toronto Blue Jays.'

  • yeah but they Jays weren't around in '69! they had another 9 years to go! (sorry to be nitpicky!)

  • No wonder his collection was so small.

  • And this one I got from Harvey Kneeslapper last August at Woodstock when I asked "Hey, does anyone have a J?"....You know Harvey, the same guy who later that day asked me if I wanted to see C.C.R. up close.

  • 'Hey, Harvey! Gimme an F...'

  • And I got this one from Ricky Ricardo, and this one from Ravishing Rick Rude.. and this one from Ronald Reagan.. and this one from Rocky Raccoon, and this one from Roy Rogers.. this one from Rodney Allen Rippy, and this one from the Red Rooster, and this one from Robert Reed..

  • Bert probably got his J from Jack the beanstalk climber, Jack the hill climber, Jack B. Nimble or Little Jack Horner.

  • Or Dr. J.

  • Yeah, forgot about him.

  • Or Jimmie JJ Walker.. J-Lo.. or JJ Fad.

  • or J Jonah Jameson from Spiderman!

  • That was cold!!!

  • Bert's Sweet revenge.

  • note Frank hand at the bottom when Bert waves his J!

  • What a rotten trick Bert played on Ernie! Bert could have found a box of his own for his J's.

  • I wouldn't ever feel sorry for Ernie after all he's put Bert through!

And MIKECNW makes a good point. What's Ernie crying about? All he has to do is pick them back up! And how hard is it to get another box?

Funny how Bert's J collection consists of one J!

  • Well, you gotta start somewhere.

  • Holy cow, I have been looking for this clip for ages! Thank you...

BTW, this dates back to Season 1 when three-letter sponsorships were common: I'm surprised that the writers didn't work in a reference to the third letter of the day (O) on the show where this first appeared!

  • No fair! I can't believe Bert had a J collection after he told Ernie it was dumb to collect R's. Now Ernie's crying in frustration, and you know what? I am too!

  • I have to agree a little bit.

Them Nanto has a point as well.

Of course all Enie had to do was get his R's out from the trash and find another place for them.

  • I loved this one when I was a kid, especially the hilarious ending. It was great to see Bert finally get one over on Ernie!

  • 'Rutgers Rhode Island Football game' LOL!!

Thanks for posting another classic skit!

  • How's about the Ravens-Redskins football game.
