Thank you so much for this. My nine month old son, also named Ben, has croup. So far it's just that, but once again I thank you for helping me know what to look for. He's sleeping now and his breathing is good. It's worse when he's crying and he has a little wheezing. It's the third day now.
Just another paramedic student here thanking you for the upload. This helps us a lot as we only get to really read about it from text books and this puts the knowledge of what to look for in perspective. Hope he is doing ok, all the best.
@pixie1310 He had already had some oral steriods & I held off on nebulised adrenaline this time as steriods eventually kicked (although i was very stressed when i woke him as it got worse). The ambulance crew wanted to give nebulised adrenaline but we held of due to our past experience with Ben & also we are both medical (Paediatrician & Nurse) so took the risk to not give it.
Thank you for video, how old is your little man now. I have just up loaded a video of our 8 year old daughter. Maybe she also needs to go back on gerd meds. Her scope 18 months ago was clear, but specialist said she produced excess stomach acid. Also she had a floppy larynx as baby. She turned blue on us once ended up in Ed with bronchial pneumonia at 8 months of age. I kept getting told she would out grow reflux... We took her off meds at age 7. But still gets croup now at 8 yrs. Does your l
@kiarliah Ben is now 4 1/2 & still gets croup & constant chest issues but we have nebuliser at home which we give him a neb of budesonide when cough starts even if no stridor present. So far it has prevented many doses of oral steriods & we've had no trips to emergency for 2 months. If he has a cough we start his GERD/reflux meds again just for the period of illness which works a treat so far. I dont think anyone grows out of reflux but distance b/w stomach/throat grows & hence less lung issues
Thanks mom and dad, really helpfull for future doctors, now its easier to me to recognize crup fromothers respiratory deseases. Thanks for the material.
Thank you for this video it now makes me understand more on sternal retractions and the sound of it I am an EMT and that I actually learned the sounds and the proper treatments to take when responding to a pediatric call like this I hope he feels better
Yet another student that benefited from this video, thank you. Did the hospital check for an upper airway mass because it sounds like he has an expiratory stridor as well.
Thanks for comment. After 3 yrs of croup 7-10 times/yr we finally got him a scope & now on somac for GORD (reflux) which may be the cause as he is aspirating gastric contents at night, never slept through night prior to new drugs, always the kid with the chest issues. Anyway scope showed lots of cobblestoning in trach/bronch & inflammed areas, as well as floppy value in oesphagus, hence the refluxing up and constant inflammation, infections and croup.
@optislayerpictures it is an educational video for those of us who are going into/ are already in the medical field. To familiarize us with the looks and sounds of children and adults with stridor, as it is a serious condition.
