  • Good video, I have a few questions. About how long is the life cycle of the mealworm/darkwing beetle? Once they have gone to the beetle stage, how long before they lay eggs (is that the 1-2 week period? And after you seperate out the beetles how long do they live? I have chickens and I will be raising them to provide nutritous treats for my hens.

Also, I love your cichlids. My wife and I used to have huge Oscars, Jack Dempseys and I had a Red Devil once...they are fierce!

  • can somebody pleas help me , you have to seperate them in 3 different layers , mealworms , beetles and something between it , can somebode explayen me the last layer , because i just don't get it

  • Please Reply! i am breeding meal worms and I'm confused, if i don't separate them will they die or just inhibit growth/ reproduction?

    ...

  • I have a leopard gecko who loves the meal worms, but I had a container of 50 worms for about a month, and when I found it and opened the lid, all of these beetles were crawling all over the place. Can I feed the actual beetle to the gecko?

  • All I ahve is brown sugar oatmeal, is that okay xD

  • hey i heard if you keep the meal worms together they wont pupate?? that you have to cup them up one by one for them to morph into beetles.. is this true ??

  • Greetings, what can be used to replace oat?

  • hi, i want to breed mealworms to sell for a little extra cash and to feed to my future sugar gliders. I want to know, if i breed them and use the containers that you use (the three drawer one) do they crawl out of them and get all over the place? i would probably have to have them in my room because my mom does not like bugs lol so i want to know if they do or not, thanks :D

  • @KarissaBassTV im about to do the same my suggie loves meal worms so much is he smells them on my fingers he goes nuts lol

    congrats on your breeding! <3

  • So if I was to use those drawers with separated compartments, I dot NOT need to make holes for ventilation? Or do I? Or does it depend on the tightness of different brands of drawers? And does it really provide enough ventilation that condensation doesn't happen? Thanks!

  • Good video! I will try to breed some for my chickens!

  • Hey, can you tell me some tips on breeding mealworms? I just started, and I have one Pupa, what should I do with it? Also great video

  • The beetles that the mealworms become into, can i feed them to my lizard (chinese water dragon)?

  • @Yugi196Trades I wouldn't, the shell is usually too hard and cannot be digested well.

  • what do you do with all these meal worms?!

  • @dimplessx13 These mealworms provide a constant source of nutrition and live food for my fish (5 fish tanks total), turtle, and tarantulas.

  • @demasoni521

Meal worms is different from Super worms right?

  • @shadowslash28 Yes, the superworms have been treated with hormones.

  • @demasoni521 Hi Just to sum it up after I place the beetles in the container after 2 weeks remove them because they eat the eggs?

At that point can I put the beetles in another container in order to get more eggs or two weeks is their productive stage?

    Thanks

  • @demasoni521 also for sugar gliders too as a snack

  • @bobasbestos 7:44 pause it right there.

  • The beetles arent breeding, i havnt gotten baby worms in a really long time

  • The beetles arent breeding, i havnt gotten baby worms in a really long time

  • Very nice Video man! Very helpful, I am starting my meal worm farm next week.

    Thanks again

  • hi i started using ur method last year and it has produced great results. I bought 1 tub of 100 mealies then right now I have close to 1000, thanks for sharing.

this really is ONE OF THE best ways to raise mealworms

  • @steamtrav Thanks for your "testimonial" to my method!

  • use your hands pussy

  • @ROGERDERBY Honestly, just shut the fuck up.

  • @herpsrcol I have a better proposition. How about you get on your knees, and swallow my nut you cunt.

  • nice vid thanks for posting

  • Your carpet is disgusting. Next time you go to Walmart buy a vacuum cleaner!

  • Do you answer anyone about their questions

  • wht are the bettles from

  • Some of my mealworms aren't moving what does this mean?

  • lol if that's what you call an "inch" then I'm sure you are probably lying to your Girlfriend :p

  • @demasoni521 can you make another vid to help me on the breeding of mealworms and can you plz give me some more info

  • can u feed mealworms and beetles to bearded dragons ?

  • @TheiTouchGuys you can indeed thats what i breed mine for

  • @demasoni521 I got a pack of 20 mealworms today and put them in a container of oats and lettuce. What else to I need to know to breed mealworms. And great vid!

  • THANK YOU! You made it as clear as a bell; wish me luck as I start my own (OMG) mealworm farm for Mozart, the chameleon!

  • can i feed my breeded mealworms to my bearded dragon? :)

  • um why do my pupae keep dying? only about half end up turning into beetles

  • @Dproguyzerz First off, thanks for watching my video. Honestly, I think this is the most productive way to breed mealworms. It gives you the biggest yield. And during this video, I just purchased some more containers to add to my previous containers. I do not buy containers every week, its more like every 6 months at least. How can you call me an idiot if you can't even get your facts straight? You must have a productive life.

  • @demasoni521 about the containers, i was exaggerating, because u dont need to keep buying containers, let alone seperate them. i probably wouldnt bitch so much if u said this was the "best" way to breed mealworms. u cant say that

  • waaaaayyyyyyy to complicated. "u have seperate everything every 2 weeks" bullshit. skullmaster430 has the best method. its the easiest

  • I bought about a 1000 of these lil guys at the pet store, brought them home and my mom freaked. She doesn't want to live with bugs in the house. I need to find a new home for her... Are there any places, like the SPCA that will accept unwanted mothers?

.. I'm only kidding, but tomorrow I have to go down to the creek and feed my lil' babies to the fishies. ..when I really looked forward to breeding them, too! :(

  • lmao. Your fish go crazy over them!

    I have a couple questions...

Can the mealworms suffocate if you have the container tightly sealed? Should I look for a container with holes or some form of ventilation?

  • how long dus it take for the pupa to hatch

  • @TheBigdadydave It has been cleaned shortly after the video was made. Thank you for your suggestion, and thanks for watching.

  • @demasoni521 rofl :P and thanks for watching haha

  • question............

how do you stop the mealworms from crawling out of my plastic tubs?

it happens when they turn that yelloweeeeeeee colour.

  • my worms crawl out and escape all the time even putting tape around the tubs

  • @TheBigdadydave go blow your father if you in fact actually know who the fuck that crack head is

  • @TheBigdadydave why do you think he bought the filters dumb ass

  • The best way to prevent or get rid of mites is to put sulphur into your feeding material. They hate it! And it doesn't hurt the worms or what you are feeding. Also, and very important, is to keep the trash out and the moisture. Your breeding farm should be dry!

  • ok so on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being the worst. how bad does your colony smell. because mine smells like something died in there and iv looked all through the oat meal and couldnt find any mold or any thing that would make it smell so bad. like the smell is so bad i dont even want to open the lid to feed them. and if you know how to get rid of this bad smell id really like to know. plzz help thx

  • @GOLDROCK420 When kept properly, they shouldn't smell like anything. My colony hoenstly just smells like stale bread and oatmeal. Here's my suggestion to you: check if there are mites, and check on the bottom of the container. Avoid watery foods and just give them carrots or lettuce. Let the colony dry out a bit. Are there any dead worms/beetles in there? They really don't smell bad, I guess from 1-10 probably 2 or 3 =/

  • @demasoni521 thats exactly what i had on my old colony i couldnt figure out what was on the carrots that i fed my bettles they were fucking mites. so i just tossed that colony and started fresh. so how would i get rid of the mites if they where to come back and how do they end up in my colony in the first place

  • @GOLDROCK420 Mites thrive on mold and moisture. What I recommend is to take the carrots and put slices of them on pieces of napkins. Therefore they won't touch the oats so no mold. Let the colony dry out a bit. Take the lid off (if you have one) and don't give them any moisture for a week (they'll survive). The mites should be gone once everything dries out.

  • @demasoni521 is it possible for the mites to get out of the container that i have the meal worms in. because that would suck balls if all of a sudden i have mites walking around my house.

  • @GOLDROCK420 yes, but they wouldn't really reproduce in the house because it is much drier. I used to have mites when I didn't know how to breed these and they literally overflowed out the sides of the container. Just keep things dry, and they shouldn't be a problem.

  • walmart is evil!!!!!!!!!

  • Um what do u use for water?

  • @Reptiledictionary225 I usually use a carrot or a piece of lettuce.

  • your fish tank needs a cleanin and is overcrowded!!!! lmao jk beautiful job on the video bud...

  • @JHSUZYQ14 Yes, I agree it needed a cleaning at the time. Now all 20+ of my convict cichlid juveniles are living in a nice clean tank. Yeah when I made this video last summer I was out for 2 weeks, and nobody bothered to clean the tanks haha.

  • So what do u do with the 'pupey' things?...put them into a seperate tub then they turn into beetles or worms?

  • @munkeynut I usually put them in a small plastic tub. It can be small because they do not move. Once they pupate into beetles, I move the newly pupated beetles into a tub with oats.

  • hey would i have a colony with only 7 beetles or should i buy more mealworms??

  • great video diagrams and reports at the end were informative good job thanks

  • i had like 30 beetles but they never had eggs. do they need a certain substrate, temperature, or large enclosure?

  • @agilityx3 no you dont heck i had mine breed inside of the container i got them in from petsmart

  • Hello!

I have 6 recipients with mealworms, but they don't multiplicate should I like!

My birds with puppies eat a lot of mealworms.

I suspect the beetles eat eggs and the smallest babies, is that true? Do you Know that?

Is it very important separate the eggs and beetles??

I'm sorry for the bad english!

    Thank you!

  • @EdwardQueirozTedde I believe it is important t seperat the eggs and beetles. Beetles can and will eat eggs.

  • i wanna start bredding any tips other than these

  • What do you do with the beetles? Do u feed them to ur reptile or are they just the breeders? i dnt get it...lol

  • @reptilechick90 I don't know what he does, but I wouldn't recommend feeding your reptile them... they are not nutritious at all, they have so much chitin (stuff that makes up the hard shell of insects) and the chitin can prohibit your herp from gaining any nutritents from the beetles. Also there hasn't been a successful situation for gutloading beetles properly (dusting has been proven to not be a good method of supplementation by many papers). So just keep them as breeders :)

  • @bugbabe623 Please scratch my comment. Your arguement is very good, you have a lot more experience with herps probably while the only reptile I own is a red eared turtle. Chitin is indigestible and not good for food. Thanks for helping with my comment, bugbabe623.

  • can the beetles climb on a vertical surface?

  • @Gvlad2008 beetles cannot climb glass or plastic.

  • @demasoni521 thanks...i was asking because i have 4 pupas and i keep them in a little plastic box with no lid...and i don't check on them every day, so i don't want any surprises when they become beetles

  • hey how long after i put the beetles into a bin do i have to take them out?

  • @snowboarderj07 depends on temperature and stuff like that, but for me I wait around 2 weeks before I switch containers.

  • @demasoni521 thanks!

  • hey ,its been a week plus now,i did not see any baby mealworms in the beetles box ,im worried that my breeding plan wont work, help me!!

  • how long does it take to have pupa's because i have had my mealworms for 2 weeks and still have yet to see a pupa am i doing something wrong or do they take longer

  • lol at 4:00 i thought my video froze =P

  • @attack30sowns haha eh I stutter sometimes, mlia

  • Comment removed

  • So,once they become pupa u just put inside the beetles enclosure?Wont the beetles eat them?

  • @madturtlefan what i do is i usually take a small plastic tub and put the pupa in. once they are beetles i'll put them with the beetles.

  • if you see baby mealworms in the beetles box u just leave them alone and only transfer the beetles?

  • @madturtlefan yes, just leave the worms alone and transfer just the beetles.

  • how long will i wait for the beetles to have baby mealworms and how do i know when to transfer the beetles to another box???

  • if you don't separate the beetles will any eggs survive at all

  • @Senorboner48 yes eggs will survive, but with the method shown in my video, there will be the best success rate.

  • How do you sex the bettles?

  • @farmerz245 quiet frankly, I don't know. I just keep all the beetles together and they'll do their business haha

  • Hey,i found out that one of my box is filled wif mealworms pupa, what should i give them(food) when then become beetles???

  • @madturtlefan thats great! They do not need any food and they will take about a week or two weeks to become beetles. Once they are beetles they will look whitish, then red, then black because their shell is hardening. Make sure you feed the beetles some moisture when they morph from the pupa because they really need it .

    Cheers

  • @willfeldon yeah I will definetely clean it. Algae doesn't really bother me though, it is a sign that my water quality is good and microorganisms can survive on the glass. If a tank has no algae, that means the lighting and water isn't good. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment! Cheers

  • wen it comes to the beetles how do u find the eggs and when u get the eggs what do u do to them to make them hatch?

  • @leopardgeckocrazy13 I never found any eggs haha you'll know they're there if you see tiny mealworms in about 3 weeks. Trust me, if you have beetles they are laying eggs haha

  • dude you sound just like meh LOL

  • @GlobalAndy haha

  • Wait so you seperate the mealworms and the beetles, but how do you seperate the eggs from the beetles?

  • @Honeebuket You can't really seperate the eggs. What I do is I take the beetles out of their enclosure after about 2-3 weeks. The eggs will remain in the oats in the orginial container, the beetles are transferred to a new container. hope that is clear

  • Will beetles eat the pupas?

  • @xTacKxMalicE yes sometimes. Which is why I always seperate them.

  • Do you know that my mealworms eats turtle pellets cox one time one of the pellets drop into the box and a while later i saw them 'fighting', i was like wat the hell!? So i went to check it out and saw that they r fighting over the pellets so from then onwards i gave them turtle pellets....

  • @madturtlefan yes, i guess they like the protein or something. I feed my beetles some fish flakes every so often to give them an extra protein boost for more eggs

  • hey man can i feed mealworms as a staple diet to my leopard gecko? cause i read online that you cant because there is to much chitin in 'em and they cant digest 'em propely plz reply :)

    -Nathan

  • @leolover12345 um, I usually go with variety for any animal. Mealworms are good, but not forever good. I recommend you get some blaptica dubia roaches or at least swap mealworms a week, then crickets a week. This will be a good staple for your gecko. also try phoenix worms, and waxworms as treats sometime

  • I recently started breeding meal worms and my first attempt I used quick oats, and the oats didnt work out for me, All the meal worms, but four died. I tried again with Chick Starter, after I read that you can use it, I already had some on hand because I have a duckling, and the chick starter worked out good for me and its also really cheap I get about 15 pounds for a little less then $5. You should look into it, You get a lot more for your money.

  • @Degumom yes i sure will! thing is i've heard that chick mash sometimes has like mite eggs or beetle eggs in it? or something about it not being sterile. I'll definetely look into it though! thanks!

  • nice video

  • if the mealworms and other things if they eat the smaller guys that equals bug mealworms

  • does bearded dragon eat the beetles?

    <
