This is just one of many examples of later singers (like Johnny Rivers) ripping off the original recordings without giving credit. Mose Allison was an original blues singer with authentic roots. His version is so much better than later ones. He was not black, but he sang with reverence for other black blues singers of his time.
turn the other cheek....kiss...this cheek ...shiek. tell your future ..make it come to pass. tell things to you make your heart feel glad....buy your oil gold-plate your pad..guild every lily run barefoot thru virgin east to west and over buddah's pad.
One of the great shocks of my life was discovering that Mose Allison was white. I'd heard his stuff on late-night jazz radio, saved up to buy an album, and when I got to the record store and saw the cover . . . Same thing happened with The Righteous Brothers.

I will be grateful to my dying day to my friend Jim Autry for turning me onto the music of Mose Allison. An American music master if there ever was one.
back in 1970 I visited my second cousin out in Calif. living around Malibu lake in a garage. Aside from a hot plate on the floor and two electric lights he had his six hundred dollar marantz stereo equipment and tons of Mose Allison records. We both got high listening to this music , which was new to me and I never got over that smooth voice. It was about five yrs later I went to the lighthouse in S. Monica and saw Mose..I was shocked that he was white, I was expecting a Black entertainer.
@nedarc Your comment reminds me of the old hit song "Groovin'" by The Rascals. I heard that great, wonderful song for decades, always assuming the singer was black. I was amazed when I discovered very late that he's white.
another fantastic find. This music is so real. As I find these gems you can see how it has influenced some of the greats. I pray that that will continue. IT MUST.
Chalone, yet again, you've picked a winner here! I love the raw and true jazzy feel of this one! It's the perfect mix of raw and progressive. Some of the more hardcore Jazz out there has too many "Holes" in it but like I said, this is perfect! Thanks and 5 stars to mewe65 for this upload. JJ~
Love it! =)
